Will download it for sure since Nintendo couldn't be bothered to port the WiiU remaster to the Switch

I do have a (soft)modded Wii, but coming to think of it... I honestly have no idea where it is now. Maybe up in the attic? Did I borrow it to a friend? I haven't had a compatible display for so long that I can't recall. Anyway, as I do own a legit copy, albeit for the Wii - it may be not yet officially supported, I guess I'll have to sail the high seas. I've already bought it, so it should be "fair" to get the GC version.

After replaying a game that I kinda hate in the same way I like it, Dark Souls 2 with path tracing on Pc, I think the lighting change is so transformative that it's the only way I'll consider replaying those old games (when they're good but not classic status).
It's either path tracing or remake for me to care. Too many games to play…
 
I just checked. Source code is available. Also none of the Mario 64 ports have been shut down afaik.

Hope they included cutscenes skip or fast text. The beginning is a slog.

if it's a clean recompiling they have no power here. their other recomps are also still up
I figured they'd still attempt because of their track record, but I'm glad to know I was wrong.
 
Just got it up and running.
  • The included menu is fantastic. One of the best I've seen yet in a recomp/decomp project. Can be used completely with a controller
  • My Xbox controller configured itself automatically with no input from me
  • Resolution options are limited to multiples of original res, like 1x, 2x, etc. You can use this to supersample up to 12x, though, which is nice.
  • Shadows quality can be bumped to 8x original res
  • No anti-aliasing options. I turned on FXAA in nVidia Control Panel smooth things out a bit
  • No options for LOD, draw distance, etc.
  • No option to disable the black bars in z-targeting or certain cut scenes. Hopefully this gets added.
  • Lots of options to customize the game, including things from the Wii U version.

Just tried it out. Supports full ultrawide automatically right out of the box. It's crazy that some games you pay for still can't even do this.
 
The bloom option is the big thing I was hoping to see, but it's also huge to see the QOL hacks in so early. OOT has them and they're great.

Now to rip a disc. I have multiple, time to see what's supported.

Henriko posted an update on his Discord. Looks like he's going to make some updates to the texture pack to fix some of the few issues seen when using it in Dusk.

This looks awesome, is there a central place where we can track these projects? There are so many of these decomp and recomp projects too keep up with.

Tbh video game esoterica would be perfect for this. Whether he does or doesn't I have no idea, but his channel on youtube follows all this stuff.

Edit: crap! I chose to download the download folder for Herriko's texture pack then realized it had 1080p also, then canceled it, then downloaded just 4k, but just preparing the first download caused me to hit a daily data download limit on google drive so I can't download the texture pack. Smh!

I saw a post saying that other port (Courage Reborn) tries to run the game at 60 fps natively, while this one uses interpolation to achieve it. I'll try it myself tonight to see how it works and whether there's any noticeable input latency.

It kinda has. not true ultrawide, unfortunately. It just fills your screen so top and bottom is cut off and shows less from the image than if you were forcing 4:3 via the menu.

EDIT: what I said only applies to cutscenes. Gameplay has full ultrawide screen support!

The website says they do it this way to prevent the game from breaking. The og uses framerate to keep the other systems in check much like lots of older games did. probably enemy ai and physics would break with a non interpolated unlimited fps
 
I didn't love the ghost wolf (or whatever that thing is) parts back in the day, but since this supports cheat codes I can bypass those areas real quickly. Plan to play this on the Rog Ally Z1E. I guess I can remove the Cemu port emulated one now.

"Console accuracy" made me laugh, ngl.

TP isn't exactly one of my favorite Zeldas, but at least part of it is because of its terrible QoL.
QoL improvements + bloom removal could make me appreciate it a bit more.
