Can beta testers recomend the best class(es) purely from a storytelling perspective? Preferebly on both factions. Story is more important to me that class skills so quite interested to hear some varied opinions on which ones stand out and which ones don't.

Very few people have played all the classes all the way through but my understanding is:

1.IA
2.BH/SMU/Trooper
3.SW
4.JK
5.Inquisitor/Consular

Only three days till my system makes first contact with tor.

What a glorious day it will be.

And omg at that 1up description... Jeez

I can't wait for the weekend test because I haven't played this game since the first private beta wave came out when it had a shitload of problems and I was stuck on Hutta of all places as it's my least favorite. I can't wait to see how far it's come because even then, the game was fun as hell.

My only hope is if my disability kicks in so I can afford a monthly subscription but it looks like the fight continues so this next weekend is my only chance to play it. Fuck you government, and for that reason, I'm thinking of going against my usual self in always picking the good side in games, and I'm going to be one badass Sith out to destroy the Republic like it's my real life government. Rage and hatred are paths to the dark side right? :P

So I got a invite to the beta but I got no link or code, is this something that will be emailed later? Sorry if already answered.

You'll get another email sometime soonish that will allow you to download the client and will tell you the date for the next beta (Thanksgiving weekend 25-28).

I suspect we'll probably get our link to download either Monday or Tuesday. Keep in mind however, opening day of that beta it's going to be really really congested so I would highly recommend either waiting it out a day or play at a late night time. I'll probably end up playing with the character creation for over an hour. I already have names in mind.

They can have the damn character creation. That character is going to be deleted anyway.

I'm just gonna try and play both trooper and jedi as far as possible. I want to know if a commando or sentinel will be my prefered toon :P

Seems about right for how interesting the stories are, though I found Inquisitors to be entertaining at least. Consulars in comparison were the absolute worst story wise and character wise.

I agree I really liked the Inquisitor story, you're background comes up quite off in side missions at least from 1-20

What's the best class for raiding in each role?

Thats really not going to be known till the classes are more finalized really. This last build did major revamps to several classes and some others are supposed to be getting work done on still. And most beta testers have not raided

Man, it really sucks not knowing. I guess it's all a test.

Have to theorycraft the current build and see who has the best rotation and the best theoretical dps.

All classes seem to be pretty viable. I think the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are the only classes that struggle with some things, but they are supposed to be getting buffed soon.

IA is the best, and is probably going to be my main. I'm not sure who to play as republic though. I tried Smuggler a couple months ago and didn't like it, but back then half of their abilities didn't even work.

Urge to play IA, rising.

Though I must resist and keep it fresh. If I play a smuggler gunslinger, will it be the same mechanics as an IA sniper?

Yes. The same mechanics, but I think IAs only get one gun and you get two! So it's obviously better!

I didn't like the female VO for smuggler when I tried them, but I love the female VO for the IA. It's so well done. I may try a male smuggler during the stress test weekend.

Yeah, I don't really like the female Smuggler's VA. I submitted that in feedback. Now they're going to hire someone else and redo thousands of lines of dialog, right? RIGHT?!

Bounty Hunter is looking more and more appealing (dat fourth companion). I just wish I could be a Twi'lek :(.

Anyone play with Powertech (Advanced Prototype or Pyrotech)?

I played Powertech to level 27 two builds ago. It's the most fun gameplay I've experienced out of all the classes. Can't beat the awesomeness of wrist-mounted rocket launchers, flamethrowers, rail guns, and a jet pack. You know the BH in the Deceived trailer? You get every single move shown, including the flamethrower spin.

The first BH companion, Mako, is also adorable (if you use customization kit on her, go for the one with the bob cut!)

Has anyone played Trooper>Vanguard extensively in PvP? I'm planning on going the Commando route so I have an option to heal if needed but I cant help but wonder how good Vanguard will be.

What better place than Texas to reveal a brand new open-world area on Tatooine called Outlaw’s Den. The name, as it implies, is a pretty rough place. Just how rough? Well, hold on to your seats – it’s an entire area of the map dedicated to free-for-all combat. Yes, you heard that correctly.

What does free-for-all mean you might ask? Well, it’s exactly as it sounds for the most part. In this dangerous area of Tatooine, everyone is a potential target. This means you can even attack members of your own faction, anywhere, at all times. Even on PvE servers. The only players you can’t attack are any members of the group you’re in, be it a 4 person party or a 24-person Operation group. Beyond that, you can target and be targeted anywhere, anytime.

Here’s an overview of some of the highlights:
Free-for-all rules: Kill anyone and everything that isn’t in your own party/group, including players of your same faction
Rare vendors – that are killable – and don’t re-spawn on a regular schedule
Rare resources for Crew Skills
Map designed with objects and architectural features such as arenas and pits – to do with as you please
Commerce area with access to your cargo hold (bank) and the Galactic Trade Network (auction house.) Even this area of Outlaw’s Den is not a sanctuary. Always keep one eye open at the mailbox ;)
It’s well-marked so players shouldn’t be surprised if they stroll into the area

Source.

And no one will ever use this area but me :<

Also, lol @ the bold.

Thanks! I really like the focus on the more fire-y aspects of BH, but don't want to end up with a gimped/boring advanced class if Mercenary is really the way to go.

Man, I love the BH. I should just forget about my end-game mentality and go with whatever.

I want to have the best class for PVP and PVE, but hell, I want to be like Boba Fett even more.

About Mako, I wish you can influence her to be evil like in Kotor rather than the new companion system.

Seems about right for how interesting the stories are, though I found Inquisitors to be entertaining at least. Consulars in comparison were the absolute worst story wise and character wise.

My understanding from reading multiple analysis of the Inquisitor storyline is that there are some major flaws all over the place. Supposedly the Consular's storyline is indeed boring as dirt, however the Inquisitor it seems has a bunch of flaws and is really disconnected compared to the other classes, story-wise.

The main criticisms I've seen for the lower ranked classes are:
-Jedi Knight is very bland and so Sith Warrior is certainly more interesting on that front
-Consular is boring
-Inquisitor is disconnected from the main storyline and is really just chasing ghosts for most of the game

All of this somewhat pisses me off though as what are going to be the most popular classes, it really seems they screwed up on.

Man just play what you enjoy playing, classes get nerfed and buffed all the time. You won't always have the best class no matter what you pick.

You can't imagine how many times I roll new characters when the one I'm playing gets nerfed. I usually play Hybrid classes, but I don't think there's an option to switch powertech to mercenary. Can't cover all three roles.

Powertech is a sort of tank BH right? would this be viable end-game or how does it work ?

From the looks of it, you get up an personal with a tank BH. Rocket punch and flame sweep all the time.

I thought it'd be like a warlock kind of tank, but they are situational.

I actually really like that in SWTOR people pick classes because of their story. It makes the less "fun" roles have a shot to be picked regularly because of their great class story.

Except in TOR the most fun classes to play have the best story.

I played a Commando(Trooper) in beta, and healing seemed pretty decent, main healing flashpoints wasn't an issue anyway.

Okay I may be switching to trooper then. I still will plan on being a flashpoint/raid healer. I played healadin in WoW anyways, so this may better suit me. Going to see if I can update my expected role on swtor.com.

The JK is a bit bland, but has the most standout ending out of the whole bunch. I haven't played much the Empire stories, which is why I'm most interested in playing the IA on launch, but I do know from people that tested until the end that the IA story goes off the rails towards the end (sadly).

I'm going to tease, but for those that don't want even a hint at endgame spoilers - DON'T HIGHLIGHT. You have been warned
Since the Empire gets their ass handed to them in the end of the solo content game, It stands to reason that the first expansion will be the Empire Strikes Back all over again (I hope)

Of course, over the long haul none of the levelling stories really matter. As content comes out, its likely that stories will be unified across factions/classes with objectives that are mutually important for both.

Not sure how that helps though. If a class isn't fun to play, people won't play it once they get done with the story.
