Am I the only one who feels bad knowing they will skip all dialog/text because they honestly don't give a shit about a SWs story? It seems like they're putting so much work into it and I really don't care. :p

Same here, I don't ever bother with the storyline in games. Playing skyrim and I wish I could speed up the conversations to see if I can open up a quest.

How well do operative IAs heal?

One of my guild members is planning on playing a healing operative and I got the chance to play with his this last beta weekend. I thought they did a great job of healing. I'll say that we had very few issues with his healing. He did tell me that it could be a difficult class to heal as, but so long as you were a smart healer it was pretty easy.

I really like that this game so far allows you play almost any roll with your class. If Bioware can keep it balanced, they really may be onto something here. I'm 100% going trooper healer now.

But I think I may be done until launch. I really want to finish Batman, Skyrim, and the new Assasin's so I have no regrets when I start SWTOR.

Rift already did that, though that's all Rift had going for it.

If you go healing Trooper (or BH), you'll be a healer. Especially past level 30. You will be about as effective tank as a Holy Paladin is in WoW. If you want to tank as a Trooper or BH you need to be a Vanguard or Powertech.

It may feel like you can do both once you gain your AC at level 10, but the classes become just as static as WoW classes as you fill in the talents.

And sadly the trees leave little room for anything, you pretty much fill a single branch all the way in and it annoys me that you're forced to take talents you don't want. Oh well, once the game is finalized no one will have a choice in how they play anyways.

Yea Blizzard fixed the unwanted talent thing in Cataclysm. Really dumb that BioWare didn't look at that and change the TOR talents.

Is there a reason to be all good or evil?

I'm wondering if there might be alignment specific equipment or something. Otherwise, the alignment is just trivial like it is always in Bioware games.

There is equipment based on allignment, and evil characters have the option of showing it on their skin.

Okay I think I am going to focus on Batman and 2011 releases now. I should really uninstall to make sure I stop playing the beta, but I can't, lol.

But anyone on the fence, this is a solid 8/10 for me right now with plenty of potential. I think this game is going to do quite well regardless of the SW crowd.

I got selected for the weekend beta but didn't see any sort of download link. Is it worth fucking around with? I was planning on playing at launch.

You don't have to pay until the 27th.

Yes. You get a one week grace period.

What's your source for this? Stephen Reid (SR) has stated we'll find out 'after the next weekend test', and there's conflicting information re: what was said at the Fan Site Summit (aka "20th or bust").

I remember hearing you have a week before needing to activate. I'll see if I can find a source for that.

fake edit: I swear it was in their preorder FAQ but it's gone now.

It's worth it but with the amount of people they're bringing in expect long queue times. They call it a stress test for a reason.

Here's what I did during last weekend's stress test. I looked for the dumbest sounding server name and picked that. I didn't have to wait in a queue once all weekend.

So basically just pick the least interesting sounding server name and thank me later.

Haha, yeah—it's been a point of contention for a while. There's a huge thread on the official forums about it. Even with Priority Shipping, the game leaving Amazon on the 21st leaves a big chance of it not arriving until after Christmas due to delays.

They just need to ship it early, and avoid the problem with cancelled pre-orders, a lengthy grace period and all that cruft.

Worked for me too. Lag free, no crashes, no queues, and still enough people around to do stuff with.

Yeah, I was pretty much on three different servers throughout the weekend. Started off on Shadow Hand then landed on Rubat Crystal once they opened that one up.

Talents have been cookie cutter in WoW for as long as math based theorycraft has been used. So, vanilla.

The illusion of choice isn't really choice.

This is correct.

Anyone defending Cataclysm's "talent trees" needs to go back to WoW as not to pollute TOR's trees with that garbage.

No matter what it all boils down to min/max, there is no choice and if you think you do have a choice in the matter then you're not playing optimally. Math is the entire driving force for the endgame in DIKU MMOs, either you embrace it or you might as well not play at endgame.

If little Jimmy wants to be a dipshit and place his points all over the place, that is his God given right. Blizzard hand-holding all the casuals in Cata in regards to talent trees was not the answer.

"Because it tricks the retards" doesn't seem like a compelling, beneficial, or even good gameplay mechanic.

In a game with an overwhelming PvE slant, you only have the right talents and the wrong talents. People will figure out what the right talents are fairly quickly, spec that way, require their raid or guild or group to spec that way, and you're left with a wholly uninteresting mechanic that everyone saw the eventual outcome of long before.

I get what you're saying, but Blizzard still didn't fix this issue in Cata, and they sure as hell aren't in World of Pandas expansion.

Cataclysm has an iffy talent tree system like all of WoW before it, it's just slightly less iffy because you get, on average, maybe one or two (largely useless) talents of choice as opposed to none. Personally I like the tree ideas for Pandaria best, where you have everything you need baseline and they just throw choices of oddball utility spells and quirks at you every so many levels (every 15 is too few, though, should be 10) instead.

There's too much math involved to sort out really deep, branching trees in an MMO, it'll always be cracked into basic PvE/PvP specs in the end. I think it's fine for single player though, where you can just play however you want.

Moving on, Is there a video of the cover for IA out I can see? I didn't play far in and I didn't follow the game much prior, I just like to dabble and see the basic flow and how it runs/controls but I should see how cover plays out since it's apparently so key tothe class.

I don't disagree, to be honest I don't think talent trees are the answer period. Talent trees are entirely pointless since it's all an illusion of choice and within that +5% more damage from X spells isn't exactly engaging gameplay wise.

I haven't gone deep into every classes talent trees, but there are talents that change core abilities for a class. Medic for troopers have a talent that changes your base attack into a healing beam that can heal a friendly target while moving and at no cost, for example.

They made the talents WORSE is cataclysm. Everything was straight up cookie-cutter.

I would agree with that.

Finally got on to the beta. So far I have really enjoyed the game. Decided to roll an Inquisitor and an Agent to get a feel of the classes.

Pretty pleased at the overall performance of the game. Despite being on an US server from the UK lag was good with a ping not far of what I get on my EU WOW server.

If you've installed the beta once ever before, and have pre-ordered either boxed copy (with early access code) or digitally, you should be able to run and update the game through Origin.

SteveO409

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?
Silly question but does the installer remembers incomplete downloads. Brother is getting irritated that it's taking up all the bandwidth and already downloaded 25% or so

Woot! I'm patching now. Good thing my previous character didn't get deleted, so I'll be able to actually get my ship. One thing I hope they do in the future is to add in more ship designs or let us go to a ship shop and buy new ones.

Oh, and the pre-order crystal looks nice, too. See you guys in the game in a few days!!!

EDIT: Too bad Sentinels are all messed up, too. Let's hope Bioware gets around to patching before the weekend test. Trying to level as a Jedi was a lesson frustration. My companion was more awesome than I was. :(

Downloading now. I am embarrassed to admit that I attempted to log in twice after the weekend beta ended, just to make sure.

I NEED MAH FIX.

How do you download this? Just got a mail I got selected a week ago, but there's no download link or anything.

Edit: Alright, nevermind. Went to swtor/tester and there I could download it.
