Hey Everyone,
This build has our first iteration of the Legacy System! At its core the Legacy system is about allowing players to create a family tree of characters. Family is pretty important to the Star Wars universe, with the Skywalker family having one of the most interesting dynamics in movie history. This version is just the foundational components that we will use to build upon in the future. Here are the features of this iteration:
Once your character has completed their Chapter 1 storyline, they will be able to choose a Legacy Last Name. This Legacy Last Name must be unique and is shared across all characters, on all servers – so choose carefully!
Once you have unlocked your Legacy, any and all characters on that server will now contribute to that player’s Legacy Experience Points. Much like normal experience points, when you reach certain Legacy thresholds, you will increase yourLegacy Level.
We already have plans for how we will expand the functionality of the Legacy System in one of our major post-ship patches. This will include being able to shape your Legacy’s family tree, and give you a reward for all those Legacy Levels.
We look forward to reading your feedback on the Legacy System!
–James

[UPDATE] Damion Schubert offered some more clarity on the forums:
You can choose to do one of the following:
- Display your legacy name as your last name (“Raiel Firewalker”)
- Display your legacy name below your name
Raiel
The Firewalker Legacy
- or choose to hide it altogether. This choice can differ per character.

RP nerds and obsessive compulsives rejoice!

Not sure how that helps though. If a class isn't fun to play, people won't play it once they get done with the story.

I think if you've invested time into a character enough to play thru the story, they won't just leave that character behind. You should know fairly quickly whether its a class you will like to play or not.

Hmmm, since there's Romance, which companion has the best romance option?

I also noticed that there might be an HK-47 type of companion in the game, but I wouldn't bet that it has the same persona.

Not biased at all... nope.

I haven't gotten far enough with any character to get to romance yet. How do you do it? Enough Affection Points?

Am I the only one who feels bad knowing they will skip all dialog/text because they honestly don't give a shit about a SWs story? It seems like they're putting so much work into it and I really don't care. :p

As long as they don't complain about not knowing what's going on or about quest direction.

Well it seems like you are going to skip a big portion of the game. It being the SW franchise is also a big reason to be playing this. I just dont see a person getting much enjoyment from the game if they are not into Star Wars

Meh, I will enjoy it by playing with friends and I don't really doubt I will be casual. I just can't see myself really getting into a story driven game where everything will undoubtedly be black and white. I like my cheesy stories, e.g. 40k, but at least there everything is black.

So I may be switching from healing consular to healing trooper. I don't think it will make a huge difference in terms of my contribution. Now that I think about it, trooper healer is close to a healadin, which I played in WoW.

Yeah, BH Mercenary and Trooper Combat Medic is the Healadin tree. Best at single target healing from what I'm reading on the forums.

Will people that are eligible for the early access have to pay for the game? I mean the official date is December 20th, and my early access starts 15th since it's 5 days.

I assume the 5 days early access will act like a trial. Once its the 20th, you have to pay to continue.

RP nerds and obsessive compulsives rejoice!

Like RPing (real RPGs, PnP ones) but this system doesn't sound so good. One name per server, for all characters regardless alignment or species? Sounds really crappy system IMO.
Do we have to choose a name?
Why the hell are we limited to one surname per server anyway?
Just because apparently.

Huh? The game includes 30 days free. You won't be billed until the 30 days is up.

That's not a pre-order only thing...

The early access is from pre-ordering. You still have to own the game before you get 30 days free, and you can't own the game until the 20th.

You don't have to pay until the 27th.

Every MMO that's had a headstart has given a grace period of at least a couple days to allow people to get their mail order copies in. If they cut people off immediately on the 20th there will be a massive backlash.
Yes. You get a one week grace period.

I don't know how exactly they are going to do the early access. I just assume you download it and play for 5 days before you have to activate your account.

At least with this game I won't be making the mistake of playing on US servers only to stay with GAF. For once I can have an MMO launch with a great internet connection, all the time in the world and pretty much no neccessary lag. Of course it'll still be chaotic on their end.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. So I got an E-Mail a few days ago saying I got a message from Bioware. I thought it was some advertisement and ignored it. Checked it today and it was a beta code and now I'm too late to redeem it.

edit:Seems it accepted the code anyway.

It's for this upcoming weekend.

We really need a title update or something for this.

Am I the only one who hasn't received an invitation yet for the upcoming Thanksgiving test?

Edit: I had registered before Nov 2011 so didn't get a beta code through any of the sites.

Ok someone here has to have what I am missing to finish up my theorycrafting for the day. I am looking for LVL 50 naked stats for any and all classes. Does any one happen to have them or know where I can find them?

Right now I am making a ton of guess and assumptions and those numbers would really help me make sure all my formulas are correct, at least as much as they can be in the great world of theorycrafting.

Man this is so fucking bad. I don't feel like playing any other game anymore, so I just keep pouring time into the beta.

God dammit, I really want to finish batman and skyrim. Perhaps I should tear myself away.

If you got that from Bioware you will get another e-mail this coming week with the link to DL the client. If not from then I guess you are screwed

FFS, this again? Bioware doesn't know how to write emails...
More details later, doesn't it say so?
No offence but it annoys me that BW doesn't bother to tell how the get the clien or how we're informed when we get it and this causes everyone to ask the same question.

EDIT sorry for the tone, more annoyed at BW than players who don't realise how the system works at the moment. Not the first thing BW didn't get right about SWtor.

How can you take part in this coming Beta Test Weekend? Well, for starters we are happy to announce that anyone who has signed up for our Game Testing Program prior to today, November 11th, will get invited! Invites will be sent in the coming weeks.

Greetings StalkerUKCG,

Your account has been selected to participate in an upcoming Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Beta Weekend Test. If you have previously tested or are currently participating in an ongoing test, you will be invited again. Additional details for this upcoming test will be announced soon.

As part of this test, we will be partnering with games industry sites to distribute additional beta codes as necessary. This will help ensure we meet our population goals, so we can effectively stress test our servers in preparation for launch. Please do not acquire and redeem one of these codes as it could jeopardize your ability to participate in this test.

As a reminder, should you choose to participate, everything associated with this test (game information, process, forums communication, etc.) is confidential and may not be discussed outside of the Game Testing forum. Additionally, your participation in the Game Testing Program is subject to the Game Testing Agreement.

Iv never had any prior involvment with this beta so i assume (as would many) that id get some kind of redemption code. So im waiting for a email with a DDL to the beta client?. So confusing. I follow alot of gaming stuff and never go on the BW forums so i could be there but still its not hard to put in the email

"This email is a confirmation only you will recieve a future email with a download link to the beta client shortly"

They did tell you that "additional details for this upcoming test will be announced soon". The part about other codes is just them telling you not to apply those codes since you've been selected by Bioware already anyways.
Just wait for more information, it's stated quite clearly in the email if you ask me.

Can any current WoW players in here give me a general idea of what to expect from group play in TOR? WoW is generally my only MMO experience and I've played it for five years, off and on.

Are group dynamics generally still based on the holy trinity of tank/healers/damage? If I enjoy playing a priest (both as a healer and as ranged dps), what are good analogues for me to consider in TOR? Inquisitor? I'll be playing Sith, as all my friends have chosen the dark side.

Yeah "More details later" is "clear". Why the fuck can't they write "Invites will be sent later, if you're chosen to this program, please do not acquire additional beta-code, you won't need one"

The Sithwarrior.com forums should have what you are looking for. They're the Elitist Jerks equivalent for TOR.

At lower levels not so much but as you get to the higher levels, it's more true.

I would say though, overall it's like a looser version of the holy trinity as far as the dungeons in WoW go though. You have more freedom, but with that, group dynamics are a little bit more hectic. It's like a looser dungeon experience than WoW. Whether or not that's a good thing, I have no idea yet as my time with that stuff has been very limited. I don't think right now it matters too much whether or not you're ranged or close, and group aggro doesn't seem to be as single focused as WoW. While WoW is now more about individual mob control, crowd control, and single-targeting killing, ToR is just kind of like, one dude runs into the three mobs and just kills shit. The group of three is like your focus group instead of a target by target basis. (I have not done a raid in ToR).

So yeah, kind of a looser experience than WoW (still based off the Trinity though), but I haven't played enough to say whether or not that's a good thing or bad thing.

As for group-questing and stuff goes, I like it more than WoW, and those don't really matter what class you play. Group questing is more about numbers than anything.
