How is this for people who generally do not like MMO's? Is it possible to engage the game as an immersive, single player experience?
You're going to have to do at least some group content to stay with the leveling curve unless you like grinding, so I guess you could maybe play it as a single player game with some required co-op. I wouldn't really recommend that, but I suppose it might work out for you.

In some ways probably better than most MMOs, but it still is a MMO and you are going to get stuck doing lot of random side quests and grinding if you don't do some group content, which is what gives the best xp and rewards generally.

My impressions from the weekend beta a few weeks back...I played a Bounty Hunter Mercenary to 15 and a Jedi to 8 or 9.

I wasn't feeling it at first. It felt like a generic MMO with VA included. The voice acting is nice when the story is somewhat compelling, but listening to an NPC go on about why he needed me to "pick up x number of supply bags" or "kill x number of dudes" for ancillary reasons was annoying. One of the first things I did was to turn on subtitles and skim through most of the dialogue. I noticed a bunch of people in chat asking how you skip dialogue, so I wasn't the only one. It wasn't until the main storyline picked up that I appreciated the VA.

The companion feature is a nice touch. You can customize their play-style a bit to your preference depending on the companion (i.e. more dps or healing), and it's nice to have them participate in your conversations every now and then. Despite their efforts to offer customizations, it's still silly to see everyone in your class running with the same companion.

The space combat was forgettable, the one flashpoint I tried was fun, and the PvP ball-game was alright; once I figured out what was going on (the announcer is annoying as hell though). The visuals are much improved, though I was never a fan of the style anyways. The controls, options, frame-rate, and bugs were exceptionally good considering the game is still in beta. I've played release games that were worse off then this.

I was a little skeptical about the game, but the beta has sold me for a few months at least. After that, how long I stay depends on how the end-game content feels, and how quickly they can provide new content (I worry that having to fully VA everything is going to make content updates slow).

I had intentions to go Trooper before the beta, but the BH abilities are so much cooler in comparison. Jetpacks, missles, lasers...etc. I was also considering tanking, but I might switch to heals/dps as a Commando or Mercenary. Something about healing while wielding double-blasters or a huge cannon is hilarious to me. Plus, I noticed they get an ability that works like "earth shield" from my beloved resto shaman.

Wait, so is there a beta this weekend? My friend gave me a beta key, I put it in, and every time I try to log in now it says wrong id/password when I know they're 100% correct.

Also, their website is horrible at sharing that information

There isn't a weekend test for this weekend. It is next weekend.

Also depending on the last time you signed into the SWTOR website, you might have to reset your password.

Will TOR have some kinda 10-day trial like WoW? I didn't get a chance to try out the beta, and I really wanna try it out before I dive back into another subscription based mmo.

Not that we know of. It might have a trial included in the box. Which means the OT will be filled with begging upon launch day!

lol, what a fail of an organization. Redeemed my beta code, still no client to download, nothing.

Somewhat. However, the better stuff is the flashpoints which you need groups for. It is however NOT Kotor 3+4+5+6+6+whatever.

The Class Quest may not level you from 1-50 without doing anything else, but each one is still significantly larger than KOTOR 1 was, so the whole 3+4+5 thing still holds true since there is 8 classes with a class story longer than KOTOR.

KOTOR 3+whatever implies that each of the games has separate content. Due to repetition of the side quests, it's more a mix of what a bunch of KOTOR games might have been. Also alot of the class quests, atleast for the Jedi Knight, would simply not hold muster if it was part of a single player game. For example on Taris, the way the mission is broken up for the Jedi Knight, would simply not happen.

It's more like KotOR 3+4 if we're doing that example. At least 60% of your quests are not unique to your own class and are shared across your faction.

With NDA lifted, any word if you can improve visuals and IQ via the driver? Let's say to force better/more AA etc.?

Anyone with an SLI rig running thegame? How does it perform.

Generally no. If you ignore the outdoor group content and/or Flashpoints at your level you will fall behind the leveling curve on a future planet. Your class quest is only about 30% of the content in the game per character. So you're going to need to do a little bit of everything in order to not fall behind.

I've never been interested in MMO before SWTOR, and I loved it, so yes, single player RPG player can very much enjoy this game. Yes, there is occasional co-op missions, but they aren't that different from co-op Diablo2 sessions, and the multi-player conversations work really well.

Definitely give it a try.

When they were talking about the game being KOTOR 3+ etc, it was in relation to the story content and also talking about the sheer size of the script/VA work in the game. It's still a MMO and most people for 6+ months now have known this already.

This is near impossible to say without there being a HD KOTOR and seeing what they could have done with it. My point to that question is that the game as it is now, is not a single player only game and should not be judged as one without severe disappointment.

Anyway my biggest problem with the game right now is that they are seemingly punishing the Jedi/Sith classes. Sith Inquisitor and Consular have the worst stories and the Knight/Warrior have gameplay issues and really aren't that interesting to play. I've gotten used to everything else and so I am amazingly thankful for the beta on that.

Wow, I love what they've done with the cover system. I think I'm switching back to Gunslinger for retail. They've fixed all my complaints about it (but my Agent is low level, so we'll see how it goes).

Hmmm reading all over the place. Seems like Smuggler/Agent has the best boss fight dps.

I'd really like to see some more theory crafting.

Can beta testers recomend the best class(es) purely from a storytelling perspective? Preferebly on both factions. Story is more important to me that class skills so quite interested to hear some varied opinions on which ones stand out and which ones don't.
