Can she be my girlfriend too? :'(

=( awww, no sorry, but if things don't go well.......sure! :P I wouldn't hold your breath tho!

I plan to play as Wiz first, barb second. Likely demon hunter third, monk 4th, witch doctor last, only because it's the class that interests me the least. I could very well be surprised though :).

*sobs*

I keep getting the 24000 error. I can't even start a new character - whole thing freezes up. Why did this have to happen on my second day in the beta? Would have rather it happened on the first day when I didn't get a taste of it yet. :(

Downloaded the beta, it was ready to play, but not complete. Had to close it to check a few websites, now when I try to open it again it just seems to be stuck on "Updating setup files" or whatever. Any idea what's going on or why it's taking so long?

I seriously love this game. I was afraid playing the beta so much would burn me out before release.. it has actually done the opposite - I want the full game even more than I did before.

Thank fucking god I'm not alone. I have it stuck on "updating blizzard launcher" for like 2 days now.

I wish I knew what the trick was to getting into this thing. I've been checking battle.net and my email every day, I entered the Facebook thing as soon as I knew about it, I updated my computer specs on the beta page on battle.net, is there something I missed doing?

So on Thanksgiving, I installed the D3 beta. Played like half an hour. Today I sat down to play it and it suddenly says my graphics card isn't supported. I go to the list of unsupported graphics cards and mine IS NOT on it. So why isn't it supported? And after I already played it? So I updated my drivers for kicks...Still not supported. Any tips? Frustrated.

try pressing escape at the error message..

I have been wanting to finish the overachiever-thingy for a while now, but have been locked out of the beta due to the bug when using the auction hall, so have not been able to play for a while.

Waiting for a server reset, and when it comes I am not going to use the AH before finishing up the achievements, only have 2 left I believe... ressurecting people and doing the WD to 13. I might also have the cain-achievement in coop left.

A guy one-shots Skeleton King (fuck the Monk).

Also, preview of the Jeweler artisan and a complete list of all the existing gems + their stats!

Damn @ experience boost gems... leveling alts will be sooooo fun and quick :lol

Finished my first run through the beta today as a Demon Hunter. Finished at Level 10. Really enjoyed it. For my next run I think I'm going to give the Monk a try. Can't wait for the final game. I still need to get a desktop as I just bought a house and don't currently have a computer at my place that will run D3.

Also, as someone who didn't play Diablo or Diablo II extensively, what's the best way to get up on the lore? Are there books that tell the stories of Diablo and Diablo II? I know there are several Diablo books, but which ones should I pick up to best understand the universe and the previous events?

Edit: I also just discovered "The Book of Cain" that's coming out. Maybe that's something along the lines of what I'm looking for?

Definitely. Diablo didn't exactly have a ton of story to begin with, and the universe hasn't really been fleshed out much. They plan on changing that with the Book of Cain and Diablo 3 itself. Some stuff from the older books is being retconned so you might not want to read too much into those.

I also suggest watching these videos. I thought they were pretty informative. It's in 2 parts.

Also watch the lore panel at Blizzcon if you're heavily interested and have time. Chris Metzen himself kind of explains some things.

I'd rather he didn't. He's kind of important...
He should never touch anything lore-wise in my opinion. IIRC, he single-handedly managed to ruin the brilliance that was the lore in SC.

I will never forgive the SC2 storyline.

Also, for some reason I was under the impression there wouldnt be gear gems. All is well.

Anyone still play d2?

I've been playing on HCL lately because I'm getting hyped for d3.

Utterly addicted to D2 again. Only just found out that you can start D2 and actually choose a lvl 33 character right away. You still have to do all the early quests but it means you get to try out some high end skills and running to Nightmare mode is really easy.

Tried out a Hurricane Druid. Its like being a monster hoover of death. :D

You should try to find the Diablo 1 manual online somewhere. There were a lot of awesome bits and pieces of story in there. Hold on, maybe I can find it.

/edit: Here it is: http://diablowiki.net/Diablo_I_Manual

They've transcribed everything I think. Great read.

In other news, I'm still not in this beta, and it's tearing me apart.

Thanks for the lore links guys. Did some reading. You're right, it seems like the Diablo universe is surprisingly, not that fleshed out. Definitely keeping an eye on the Book of Cain and picking it up when it releases.

I get 178ms from au

Hmm .. I assume there's just an American server atm? I'm trying to figure out if I get 650-700ms latency with WoW, connecting to a European server, which was the closest at the time, will I suffer the same latency with the D3 server?

What was wrong with it?

I think the general consensus of WoL's story is that it was somewhat hamfisted in its delivery and had some of the main characters (predominantly Raynor) do an about face compared to their personalities and motivations in SC and BW. Raynor is the most egregious offender here, as he goes from "I'm going to kill you one way or another Kerrigan" in BW (after getting backstabbed for what must be the fifteenth time) to "I'm going to sacrifice everything to try and get my Sarah back" in SC2. The funny thing to me about the story is that the crew basically flat out tells Raynor that they think they're just fodder for his personal crusade to save Kerrigan, and then he manages to basically say that this isn't his goal, but it is, and everyone's like "ok, go team!" The lead up to the final missions just doesn't make much sense.

There's also the small matter of Zeratul's missions.
lol Tassadar and Overmind aren't really dead but are some sort of hybrid to warn Zeratul?

It's like George Lucas was in charge of the script.

Well said. All the retcons, from raynor, to the overmind made me want to stab myself with the SC2 disc. The final outcome felt like another massive retcon as well. Here is the queen of blades. The menace of the universe, and somehow they've made her into a human. What? Why?

The scope of the missions was also very lacking. The Zerg are at their peak and raynor is helpin out some refugees.

Story progression is not the same as retcons. I understand you don't like the direction the story went but I found nothing wrong with it and enjoyed it even.

The original SC and Brood War had political engagements, amazing plot twists and characters that could've been in Oscar-worthy-movies (yes, I just said that).

SC2 had a guy that might as well have been the story of Arthas and his path to the Frozen Throne. It's a huge, cringe-worthy cliché (did Raynor really carry Kerrigan and walk towards the sunset at the end of the game?!) and it's such a downgrade when it comes to story-telling.

I don't understand your point. I said "was also", indicating this is a seperate point. The development of the story was slow, and many missions were pointless to the overall story. Then suddenly everything came rushing to the fore and kerrigan was captured. The pacing was much worse compared to SC and SC:BW.

Anyway, this is offtopic.

Playing SWTOR today just made me wish Diablo3 was coming out sooner.

It isn't even as simple as not liking the 'direction of the story', it was so much more than that. Forgotten characters (Fenix, etc), hilariously bad writing, retcons, the 'twist' with Tychus was revealed in the opening cinematic, a new 'common' enemy that everyone must band together to fight e.g. Warcraft, Kerrigan being reduced to a near damsel in distress, the only interesting new character dies.

Some choice dialog samples:

"Lets kick this revolution into overdrive!"

"That's a commander I can get behind"... because Raynor didn't have enough personality to make you understand that, you had to be told by some fodder Terran guy.

I really hope they have a better writer working on Diablo 3 because SC2 was pretty bad in all honesty. I'm not trying to say that SC1 had great and non-cheesy dialog/plot but it looks like Shakespeare next to SC2.

I actually agree, but understand the negative consensus Re: WoL's story. I don't personally have a problem with the current story, but that's in large part because I didn't have huge expectations going into it. People don't stay with SC for the campaign, they stay for the multiplayer. All I hope for is a satisfying conclusion after Legacy of the Void.

dovetailing off Boken's post, I think it best to say "question asked, question answered" and keep SC2 plot discussion to its own thread. I've been distracting myself with other games to keep away from D3 news, but so far relatively unsuccessful. I still find myself looking for all kinds of datamined info, lol. Hopefully I get back down into skyrim and whatnot.

Yes, SC2 was pretty bad in terms of writing.

Sorry, wrong thread. Can someone link me to the Diablo 3 Beta thread?
Me and Hazaro started over with a monk + witch doctor combo. Went straight for skeleton king at level 1 :lol Was fun as heck.

Played through as Wizard twice, and Demon Hunter, Barb, and Witch Doctor once. Will be doing Monk tonight.

I was really surprised with how fun witch doctor was. It was one of my lower "interest" classes going in but I think it's going to be my first alt when the game's released. Haunt + Grasp of the Dead = absolutely awesome. Zombie dogs are nice for keeping things in place/taking damage. Toads seemed a bit underwhelming and poison dart while nice, just doesn't look/feel as awesome as some of the other skills. Firebats works, but my playstyle (as WD anyway) suited Haunt + Grasp of the dead moreso.

Barbarian is great if you like smashing people in the face as bodies fly across the screen. Quite powerful with a nice 2 hander + Cleave. Frenzy is a lot of fun too, absolutely tore up the Skelly King. Feels like a really powerful class. (then again, every class seemed quite powerful).

As for the Wizard, I was quite surprised with how awesome spectral blade was once I had a nice damage weapon. Arcane orb is powerful but eats mana fast. Electrocute is also just sick in terms of damage/clearing groups. Played with magic missile a bit but it seemed underwhelming, but it's still decent. Shock Pulse pales in comparison to Electrocute. Will be playing this char first.

Demon Hunter is pretty entertaining to play when incorporating Evasive Fire/Vault and backflipping all over the screen. Bola shot is quite good once you get a good hand crossbow, as is chakram. Bola shot is nice cause you can fire multiple at a time and have it chain explode off the same or multiple mobs. I didn't think chakram would be as good as it was, but you can easily clear a room full of mobs by spamming it a little. The hatred cost of chakram seems low, but I approve :D. Rapid fire (shooting at 6times normal speed) feels like you're firing an automatic gun at the enemy - lol. It's pretty good though in terms of the "feel" and effectiveness of the skill but burns hatred quick.

Overall, it seems every class can hold their own/wreck face and I know I'll have every class to 60 at some point. Looking forward to trying Monk tonight. I watched my buddy beat the beta as Monk and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.
