i sincerely think this changed the moment baby boomers started watching netflix on them.
for the younger its not a toy.
I don't think that perception has changed yet.

An iPad get the "Apple premium" and can charge a lot more. Every other tablet is forced to sell at $200-300.
Show me the upcoming paradigm shift. I'm talking about a 2012 product, here.
I'm not sure what you'll find, but I know that even GCN is going to end up delayed.
MS and Sony want these machines to be fixtures of the living room. Having huge, loud consoles would get in the way of that, big time. If either Sony or MS makes a 300-350W console, I'll personally find a crow, kill it, record myself eating it, and upload it to YouTube. I really mean it. I would sign a fucking contract over it. That's how sure i am that there's no chance of it happening.
And a 7990? Really? Let me guess; if it launches on 2013, anything less than a 7990 will be "not worth doing," right? Really, someone like you should be strongly in favor of 10-year generations and upgradeable consoles.
because all you can do is play nerdy games. with the ipad you can be creative. not to mention that you can replace alot of things with your ipad, including your mobile game systems
they're not aiming for the living room day one. If they're launching 2012 or early 2013 they'll be on 32/28nm. A noisy/hot box at that size would come down nicely with a shrink to 22nm after 18 months, just as the prices drop and mass market sales start.
i said dual 7850 would be likely target for a theoretical dual GPU scenario... but as a gamer a 7990 would be my "wet dream"
seriously, pay attention.
we'll be lucky to get a 6xxx series gpu equivalent, doubt we'll get anything in 7xxx... maybe if it launches in 2013
Ok on a scale of 1 to 5, how awesome do you expect this machine to be?
I'll pay attention if you post a meltdown about how "underpowered" it is, as these are ridiculous expectations. I'd temper them significantly if I were you.
You keep using this generation as a touchstone, but it's no longer relevant. Things are way different now than they were in 2005. The economy is in worse shape now. The Wii happened and, for better or worse, it shook up the market. Couple that with the 360's RRoD overheating issues... I really don't see the next XBox being some two GPU powerhouse. Not one bit.
hoping for a 5. MS have a clear opportunity to spend more than the other two and really go for the throat. If they do that, then it could be the most powerful of the three.
I just hope the Wii hasn't rubbed off on MS/Sony
Powerfull in terms of what? Hardware? If anything, next gen is going to be about features, now how much more polygons a char can have. The Xbox annihilated the PS2 and was tronger than the GC when it came to power. Didn't help them, at all.

Paying 500 for a console again ? really??? get real...
I still don't understand why a console can't launch at $499 and be successfull. I understand that it won't work, I just don't get why. The iPad costs more than $500, and it is updated every year. Buying a console is at least a 5 year investment, much more bang for your buck.
Maybe for you , but the average consumer will go: "oooh pretty graphics, that's the best one!!!". And I couldn't see a big (if any at all) difference between PS2 and xbox.
"Stays"? Launch Xbox 360 was well below 200W. And even so, they're all dead now. Too much heat for that kind of size.CPUs will easily use less than half of the power they used on launch Xenon or Cell. GPUs will go beyond 100W if the power budget stays at 200W+.
Oh **** ***
I'd gladly pay 500 bucks for a monster machine! Whats the problem? The iphone costs more than that
$349 - $449Xbox3 wont retail for more than $399 methinks.

Launch PS3 was round about 200W, but it was bigger too. And ridiculed for its size by the very same people who would be interested in the next Xbox near launch.
Probably as good as 7xxx single card. Maybe better.we'll be lucky to get a 6xxx series gpu equivalent, doubt we'll get anything in 7xxx... maybe if it launches in 2013

And gamers are what exactly? I'll be there first, 500 bucks, so what?. Hell, here where I live PS3 is still 449$, and 5 years ago it was 1000$, alot of people bought it.Are you seriously trying to imply that your average person buys the iPhone unlocked? Do you have any idea who Apple markets to? Hint: Idiots.

could do a premium SKU at $499, and an arcade at $399. Premium with HDD and built in wifi, arcade with small flash memory and no wifi?

Iphone unlocked is now 900$. City is practically full of them...
Was the problem with the PS3 because of the price flatout or the price compared to what the console could do?
If the console really could have blown the xbox360 out of the water then would it still have been worth the launch price?
That perception started changing with being able to play DVD movies on PS2, and continued with bluray, netflix, online renting, all of which you can do on consoles. Of course games themselves have improved from the bleeps and blops of old into something that appears as a legitimate entertainment to someone who's never even been into games. I agree with you, for the younger it's not quite as much of a toy, at least for a portion of them.i sincerely think this changed the moment baby boomers started watching netflix on them.

not related but interesting.
AMDs HD 7000 Series Specs Leaked

I said they would be "neck and neck", "close enough", "within reasonable margins" or whatever you want to call it.No.
Europe alone doesn't make up enough for the 8+ million lead the 360 has in NA over PS3.
It will be so powerful it will have dual RODs... YES, THAT AWESOME!Ok on a scale of 1 to 5, how awesome do you expect this machine to be?
Those specs have already been proven fake. Like 3 months ago.
Wait, really? Link?
