tits this one most likely

That's the one, THANK YOU!

Marriages that may produce mutant offspring are more acceptable than marriages that will never accidentally reproduce.

Pretty weird, huh?

Uh, no? Gay marriages are prohibited by outdated millenia old values. Cousin marriages have been accepted, even encouraged (though usually the reason was material wealth) for a long time, still are in some place. And they're legal in large part of the world (Like here in Finland. Cousins getting married to each other would be probably thought as odd, not unacceptable. Among older population anyway, younger people are probably americanized in this as well).
Tell me, were cousin marriages first prohibited in some US states after studies about probabilities of genetic defects* or before, and if after, were they explictly prohibitied due to these studies?

*So cousins having a child has 1% chance of having some harmul condition, but don't they also have increased chance to have some positive thing? Like immunity to HIV/AIDS, which, IIRC, requires both parents having the same gene which is recessive, again IIRC.

Sorry for going off-topic, probably should start spin-off thread about this if this discussion goes on.

meh. that applies to every marriage between fertile men and women out there. not just cousins.

lol, you know what I mean. "Likelier to produce mutant offspring."

As much as I agree... this is just a bad idea, son.
I know. And that's why i'm not starting the thread, just noting it should be done if the discussion goes on...
