Hey guys, I just got in and am trying to play, but it looks like the default resolution is unsupported by my monitor. Anyone know how to change the resolution from outside the game? I've been looking in cfg files but haven't found it...

What's your resolution?

Anyways to do a custom resolution you need to manually force it in the launch options of the game with: -windowed -h[xxx] -w[yyy]
Where [xxx] is the height in resolution and [yyy] is the width in resolution

Bear in mind that you will be running the game in windowed mode now (which is more stable anyways) and that you may get a messed up aspect ratio and may have to change that setting in the game to fit your monitor if needed.

My resolution is 1440x900. But yeah, that seems to have worked! Thanks!

After my computer is built, I'll see you guys shortly(Probably sometime Friday). I'm a noob, I plan to feed a lot, and blame my team for not being better!

Gaf info?

I plan to bring glory and honor to the GAF banner.

Edit:

What's the current GAF group? I am not sure I am in it. Is there a chat room?

As you can tell, I'm kinda new to Steam. Hell, editing my avatar was a problem, I didn't know how to get to my profile at first :(

You have to change the aspect ratio in the video menu (it's on the monitor image). That's a really common resolution so it's almost definitely supported.

It's 8:30pm and no update btw. :( Any news?

Just played the game. The animation's so goooooooodddddddddd.
Went 15-5-25 on the first game with dragon knight. Add me HoN gaffer!!

Been a long time since I've touched LoL, so I barely remember anything about those 3 Champions (in fact I think I only played Anivia once out of those).

I would say just start with the "easier" heroes and avoid the hard ones. I can give you a few heroes that are fairly simple to pick up and play.

"Easy" Heroes:
-Windrunner
-Lion
-Broodmother
-Dragon Knight
-Drow Ranger (A little advanced, but you might be able to play her)

Heroes to avoid for now:
-Morphling (definitely avoid him until you learn everyone else, his ult Transforms into someone else!)
-Ancient Apparition (Unless you are super awesome with skillshots, his can be kind of tricky)
-Pudge (The first time I played him, I realized everyone made his skillshot look easy, it is definitely not)

People need to STOP putting drow in beginner lists. Drow is super hard, don't play her unless you have a good grasp on the game or you will be a giant detriment to your team.

Also since when Windrunner is easy for beginners? I mean I gues it's easy to fire a powershot and shackle but to actually hit with the powershot can be harder. You also need to aware of your positioning all the time so you can land those long stuns instead of 0.75s ministuns. So I guess if you want to be a shitty windrunner pick her as a beginner.

Seriously, I've just started playing and I'd suggest venomancer and tidehunter to all new players. You just need a single game with them and you'll understand their mechanics easily.

A certain someone on these forums (I won't name any names ) once said in my presence that he didn't level powershot because it was worthless because he couldn't hit anything with it.

:333

Play Skeleton King and click one button on the enemy. Enjoy your other 3 passives.

Great for beginners. Pretty much all you're doing is last hitting.

Just got this the other day.

Coming from LoL, any advice on characters similar to Orianna, Anivia, or Lux? Like a DPS caster w/ some support.

Lux was my favorite champion in LoL.. I think the most similar ones are Witch Doctor, Necrolyte and Enchantress. Keep in mind that I played Dota for about 4 years before switching to LoL for a few months, so I'm not sure if those are easy to play for a beginner. Necrolyte shouldn't be too hard. You spam your Q near enemies and team mates who have low HP and you use your ultimate on low HP enemies. His animation isn't all that bad either. If you enjoy playing mostly in a support role, he's pretty fun.

Whatever could it be??

Spewing bats laced with arcane green voodoo-juice, hmm.

And look, there's another hero with a blurred out name. Both of them new, or so they both fear for their steam accounts (plausible, if this leaked from the secret beta)?

Pretty sure the other one is Riki, and that picture is of an old model that's been changed.

You're putting the horse before the cart there, Cheeto. It's mastering the basics that gets you a high GPM/XPM, not seeking to maintain the GPM/XPM that teaches you the basics.

No one keeps track of their GPM except for epeen purposes. You'll know if your GPM is low when you can't afford your core items and the other side can.

yeah? well, that just like your opinion man

Without question Krobelus. That's exactly one of her signature skills. Kind of a boring hero IIRC though. There are still some really popular, classic heroes that aren't in yet that I wish they'd get to, like Treant, Phantom Lancer and Clinkz.

So Corky went online for his second matchmaking game in Dota 2 and is already considering not playing it again. (NSFAnyone)

Yeah it sure is amazing. I must say this has to be the most vitriolic community I've ever participated in. BF/COD/SF/WoW, all of them have their ratio of jerks:goodguys but dear lord dota2 is something else... everybody keeps cussing and screaming at eachother. What spookie didn't manage to get a screengrab of was the opposite team calling me things, now that's a new one.

You can ignore people through the scoreboard and just report them, don't think I've ever seen people get that mad though. Honestly though the beta really isn't the best way to get into the game without any other experience.
