Digital Foundry VS Bethesda: PS3 Skyrim is still shit

what contempt bethesda have for people who buy their games. did they think it was acceptable or did they know it was shit but knew they'd have the millions before anyone could notice. either way, it's revolting.

If you can't be arsed to make a competent port then don't bother ffs. Completely unnacceptable. If i did all my gaming on a PS3 i'd be vowing never to touch Bethesda again right about now. They must have known it was broken when they were putting it out?

Does this happen on every single PS3?!

It's quite different for everyone I think, some already mentioned it takes them a few hours until it starts stuttering, while some experience it really quick especially with large saves, but in general the performance does degrade overtime.

I thought even without the stuttering the game's framerate were pretty mediocre, but in some areas it ran really decent, so it's great when it "works".

The video is an accurate portrayal of the ps3 before 2.01. I was 70 hours in pre patch and had to reload every hour or so as the framerate would drop to single digits. Played for about 4 hours straight yesterday (post patch) and had only one instance of noticeable slowdown. It was a disgrace that it launched in the state it did, but like I said in my experience its a lot better now.

Mind you, anyone that buys the game and doesn't have their ps3 hooked up the the internet is totally screwed.

It's frozen at least twice a night on me after the patch.

I've had freezing issues as well but I'm just grateful that its actually playable.

I want a public fucking apology. And my money back.

Two of my saves have reached the point of unplayability and the patch didn't do shit but break the game more.

I honestly did not think I could see a worse release than the PS3 version of Dead Island... but Beth managed to make that mess fade into memory.

They obviously knew, because they hid the fucking game.

Meh, that's not bad at all.

You want to hear bad, how about almost 20 lockups trying to play the last fifteen minutes of the game on New Vegas for PS3. It took me nearly three hours to get through those fifteen minutes.

I should have heeded that as a warning for Skyrim, but I blamed that on Obsidian instead of Gamebryo.

I'm still having major stuttering after the patch, but only after prolonged sessions of play - returning to the XMB and re-loading sorts things out for a while though.

Still, it's pretty unacceptable. I haven't seen framerate this bad on a game this generation since the Mothership Zeta expansion for Fallout 3 (PS3 version, surprise, surprise).

But Skyrim isn't even using Gamebryo....

So stop buying their shitty PS3 ports and send them a message that if they're not going to bother supporting the damn thing with non-shit ports, they aren't getting your money. Too bad people will just buy the PC/360 version instead of making a stand against all of them.
I'll agree that people should stop buying their games on PS3 since that kind of performance is unacceptable, but why would people that got it on PC or 360 "make a stand against all of them"?

:lol :lol :lol

The video reminds me of Fallout 3 and yes, it was that bad. Frequent frame rate drops and occasional crashes. Stick to PC and avoid this disaster.

Due to my concerns about possible save file/ performance issues, I finished the main story line last night. I've logged over 70 hours and had one 4 minute bought of nearly unplayable performance (two dragons and forsworn village). Otherwise, since the patch, the stuttering has disappeared -though I've had 3 lockups (one lockup prior patch).

I guess I'm lucky because all my complaints against Bethesda are broken and Glitched quests, which in the grand scheme of things, isn't that bad.

PS My save file is 9.3 meg

After all these complaints of shitty porting on PS3, do you think Sony will listen and actually make it easier for developers to port games next gen? We can blame Bethesda but pretty much every developer who has ported a game from 360 to PS3 has ended up with shit results.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but yes it is. :p

Bethesda said they built their own engine this time around ???

So, PS3 gamers are a bunch of spoiled children, who knew!?

Don't get me wrong, bitch about online passes and stuff. But don't bitch about getting "360 ports" because they don't match your magical expectation levels. The market has shifted: PS3 is a minority focus, just be glad you're getting some of the titles that the 360 gets and buy them. It seems like some people on PS3 simply don't do that because "LOL XBOX PORT!" :/

People throwing their arms up and whining and going "why aren't they supporting us!?" when they attempt to (even if poorly) is crazy.

Never thought I'd see a post from 2007.

There's a 2-3M difference between the systems sales-wise. lol@minority focus. It's half the market. Not to mention the other titles that perform fine.

The outrage is justified.

In this gen you can release incomplete games and get away with it. Release a broken game and patch it later...maybe. Just ask DICE they've been doing it a long time.

DICE actually patch their games successfuly. Their only loss in software battle was mic support on PS3. They fix it every time and then this shit breaks again. It's hilarious to watch while using Skype.

No I am dead serious. I have not seen a single Gamebryo logo, it is not mentioned on the Gamebryo website and afaik they are using their own engine called Creation Engine.

The kids found out that Creation engine is just a heavily modified Gamebryo ala Quake III/Call of Duty series

Because the PC version memory leaks and the 360 version has streaming issues. Beth has to fix their shit for me to give a damn and give them money for any version of their games. Anything after Morrowind has been unacceptable. Full stop. Oblivion 360 was buggy, Oblivion PS3 was just as bad. Oblivion PC was a mess until patched on launch.

Unlike Morrowind X-box, you can not fix this PS3-specific bug. And Beth does not care to fix it, as is apparent from four fucking releases on the platform. So fuck them. They should not get money and should go under.

Every single BF launch is a f'ing nightmare. No matter what. I love BF and DICE, but shit man, why do I have to wait weeks-months for a patch to make a game play like it should've out the box? Now consoles get this too. Back when it was SNES, Genesis, Ps1, Ps2, XBox, etc. you made a fucking game and you made games that worked, even if they were shit, they still worked.

I'm pretty sure 4J studios handled the Oblivion port. Microsoft has them bringing Rare games to XBLA and making an XBLA version of minecraft. PS3 version of Oblivion was great :(
Yeah, it was actually superior as I recall. Better streaming and textures I think. I'm also fairly certain the 360 version was later patched to bring it up to parity. Or thereabouts, not sure how close they were post-patch.

I personally never knew how anyone could praise Bethesda for their buggy, unfinished games. And my eyes have seen what I feel can only be seen from their games.

This port is terrible.

Exactly and I think it fucking sucks that I can't do this with games. If I buy any other product and it is broken I can expect a refund but when it comes to games or software you can forget that.

Can't keep up with these fucking kids...

I know it gets a lot of hate, but that's why I buy my console games used now.

Is my twisted imagination at work again, or didn't I read something about Bethesda really wanting to be a first-party Microsoft dev several years ago? We already know that Todd Howard is a huge 360 fan.

I mean, there's nothing inherently wrong with that (Jaffe is a huge Sony fan, right?) but at least keep the focus on your console of choice. Reluctantly cranking out multiplat titles is a recipe for disaster.

thanks for the laugh
Remind me to post something equally stupid if I ever see you complaining about a bad console > PC port.

well, PC developers weren't making games for consoles then.

because they couldn't patch them

Wow, I heard about this problem but never watched a video.

Why isn't the 360 or PC versions affected by this? I don't understand what can cause that effect.

I can understand how this stuff passes through beths Q&A as they only give a shit about the xbox, but at some point shouldn't sony's Q&A put there foot down and say shit like this is unacceptable?

Shitty developers that can't bother to learn how to code for PS3. And are totally okay with letting it slide in QA so they can sell a few million easy copies to PS3 owners before they realize it's a broken product.

It's the first time our performance analysis tools have ever recorded a 0FPS reading.

what the fuck Bethesda. IT still boggles my mind to this day, that companies are even allowed to sell these kind of products. Should bring in that Dutch viking lady to regulate quality control on games.

It cannot be stressed enough, their refusal to show the product. Or the reports they wouldn't even provide PS3 copies for review. (I would really like to know how much truth there is to the latter)

To give them some, slight, slither of credit, that patch does make a big difference.

in some cases but in others its a move from unplayable to unbearable.

I notice my PC version suffers a steady drop in framerate as the game goes on losing about 6fps over the course of 3 hours.

Skyrim is, for all intents and purposes, an Xbox 360 game. It was designed, built and created for that platform, ala Bayonetta. It just so happens to run extraordinarily well on PC's due to similar architecture and the horsepower to bulldoze through most of the deficiencies.

Disgraceful business.

Partly why i've held off on getting the game. The jokes before release were that early buyers would be QA testing shame that joke has come true.

I wonder if Skyrim will still be in the running for GOTY.

Can't keep up with these fucking kids...

We had confirmation that the "Creation Engine" is a rebrand of their old Gamebryo engine for marketing purposes from day 1 of the Skyrim reveal. Straight from Bethesda. Nothing new.

And as always it doesn't really matter, except for being wildly beneficial for the mod scene to have a familiar platform.

Really? Not supporting the PS3 is better than letting people waste their money on a quarter-assed port that is apparently unplayable, and that level of support should not be applauded.

Doubt beth will do anything more to help this, they didn't give a shit about the exact same issue in fallout and new vegas and never bothered fixing the vampire bug in oblivion.
