Windows Phone 7 |OT|

So started using my HD7 last week and am very impressed with WP7 as a whole. As with everything in life though, there are a few things that annoy me.

The first is tab management in the browser. Is there anyway to get the tabs to pop up directly rather than going to the '...' menu, and selecting tabs? That would be a handy time saver. Also, is there anyway to prevent the phone from jumping to newly opened tabs? Oftentimes I'll just want to open a thread on GAF in a new tab for reading later and carry on what I'm doing. As it stands, I have to re-open the tabs page and go back to my original tab as the new one loads. Not the end of the world, but irritating nonetheless.

The second is the calendar entries shown on the lock screen and calendar "widget" on the main screen. Is there anyway to force it to just display events from my primary calendar, instead of all of them? My wife maintains her own calendar in Gmail and while I find it handy to keep track of her wheelings and dealings, I don't want to see her entries plastered all over the lock screen. Primarily, because they're not mine to act on and ergo, I don't care that much.

Anyone aware of a way to change that behavior and designate a primary calendar in the phone?

Dipswitch. when in calendar, Tap the three dots on corner and settings and you can switch her calendar off and then back on when you want to see what's up. :)

I don't have any advice for the calendar, but for the browser, I'd recommend you download the SurfCube browser app in the marketplace...it fixes all of the incredibly bad UI changes that came from Mango. Only downside to it is that it takes a 4-5 seconds to start up every time.

Guys I have somewhat of a dilemma. I love the Titan. What I love most is the screen size, the more accurate colors, the camera and just the fact that it feels and looks like a more premium device. But im thinking about exchanging it for a Focus S. I'm getting much worse signal on my Titan even compared to my original Focus. I've received comments on several occasions that I don't sound very clear. Also I'm not particularly happy about the battery life. I stream music to Bluetooth speakers just about all day at work and im lucky to make it through a full work day. 50% better battery life with the Focus S would be amazing. Not sure what I should do. Anyone else having signal issues?

there were about half of the titan calls that sounded fairly good (still not as clear as focus s), the other half extremely muffled

one each you could tell was just a bad call connection

trust me I was disappointed. I had just decided the titan was going to work for me and then I got a few complaints and decided to test.

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'm getting the same complaints that I sound like I'm in a Bathtub or something. I'll try switching out my phone and see if that fixes it. If not I might have to switch to the Focus S even though the Titan is superior in every other way. :-(

yes all of calendar and contacts are in my SkyDrive. Its so sweet to just sign in with your id and your phone is populated with everything you need. :D

that puts me at ease.

ugh now i am conflicted to get either the titan or the focus S

w/e i have a whole year to think about it.

I haven't had a single issue with call quality on the Titan. Everything sounds great. My only complaint that has really stuck throughout is that the buttons should be firmer. The volume rocker and the top button are just too hard to press sometimes.

But does it sound good to the other person? Did some other tests tonight and it seems depending on the call, people can hear me ok. I may go ahead and swap this one as I really love the screen (and keyboard) size, led lights and vibrate feedback, better sound and music control and camera. Will probably keep focus s though too unless they let me trade for future Nokia :D.

But who knows still have 3 weeks almost to decide I'll probably switch back three more times until then. Note to self. Never buy two new phones at same time. ;)

do the buttons feel lose?

No they are just not very responsive. There are very little travel for all the buttons so you have to really press it down to get the desire result. It's really one of the more annoying thing about the Titan for me. I understand why the did it, they want to have the almost flush uni-body look but I would take responsive button over look anytime. Old Focus might have ugly looking fake-chrome buttons but they were very responsive.

I don't know about the call quality as I don't really used the phone to call people all that often. I call my wife today from work and she said I sound fine but she can here a bit of echo.

Hey can you have both phones active at the same time? How many signal bars do you have for each phone at the exact same spot?

One good thing is that each tab is its own instance in the multitasking screen and loads in the background. So you can open a link in a new tab and then hold the back button and click on the peeking instance (which should be the orginal IE tab). Then when you are done with the original tab, just hold the back button and click on the peeking instance and you are on the new tab that has finished loading.

Not a way to prevent the behaviour you are annoyed with, but should lessen the burden.

My Optimus 7 updated to 7740 there now, but the FW is still 1.1.3.10 and no sign of internet sharing :(

Looks like I'll never get it.

Looks like internet sharing is a carrier feature, which means you need a carrier firmware to enable it. My phone is an open market device and I don't have it either.

do the buttons feel lose?

Not at all. The construction of the device as a whole feels extremely solid. But, as antiquegamer said, they're just not that responsive. They help the phone to look as great as it does because they barely protrude from the phone at all, but because of this, it takes a pretty precise push of the button with some force behind it to get it to register. It's somewhat nitpicky imo, because it hasn't really detracted from my experience that much, but it could definitely be better.

I haven't had any complaints. If it has sounded off at all, it hasn't been bad enough for anyone to mention it.

Ehhh, okay.

That came out of nowhere. At least for me.

HTC must not have had many units in their first HTC Titan shipments and their subsequent shipments are slow because I still have yet to have my Titan shipped from Amazon from the Black Friday week sale. Any rumblings on shipping issues with the Titan?

Does anyone have problems with Youtube stuttering as it loads a video?

I have to wait until it fully loads for it to not stutter at all.

The HTC app doesn't have this problem.

My phone is the HTC Arrive.

Europe seems to like that Nokia.

We have seen some reports in the past month stating that Nokia Lumia leading sales in some of the mobile operators across Europe.

Two weeks ago we noted that in KPN’s charts the Nokia Lumia 800 was second only to the iPhone 4s (black). It seems either iPhone fever is fading or the Nokia tsunami growing, as the Lumia 800 has now passed the iPhone 4s (black) to read the top of the list.

KPN is the largest mobile operator in the Netherlands, making it a good sign for Nokia

HTC Radar 4G was the 3rd best selling phone on T-Mobile in November, behind the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Amaze.
not bad considering it's a mid level phone. hope this means t-mobile goes out and gets more windows phone. i want a 4.5-4.7" hero phone on t-mobile.

I was afraid this would happen so I cancel amazon order and went with at&t online.

My local stores seem to have them in stock but that doesn't mean much.

WPcentral report they are back in stock online.

As someone who can't stand the ugliness that is pinning websites to the start screen, even when using the zoom in trick, this is a godsend: http://www.web2tile.com/

Basically replaces the snapshot of the website itself to its stored icon when you bookmark. Video of it in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BqlgfVDJMA

EDIT: apparently the icons used are 57x57 iPhone icons. Some sites might be using the bubbled icons, won't look as good. Dev states he's working on a more elegant solution. More info via reddit thread where the dev is responding. http://www.reddit.com/r/wp7/comments/n28w2/pin_a_website_icon_to_your_wp7_start_screen/ Works great with the Verge's icon.

Boo! It's not working with secondapps.com/neogaf

secondapps.com/neogaf is one of the few that I can get a clear zoomed in logo shot and looks good on a tile.

I guess that's true (slightly blurry and pixelated when I've tried, but not too much)... wish there was a more metro-ish neogaf logo for us to use. Ah well. Anyways to get it back slightly more on topic... any recommendations for a browser app with a forward button? IE is great, but the lack of a forward button is killing me.

Are there any AWS compatible WP7's yet? I don't really like Android and I'm getting sick of iOS devices. WP7 looks so fresh, Nokia is bringing some hot hardware to go with MS's slick software. But none of this matters if there are no AWS phones.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsstore/archive/2011/12/06/announcing-the-new-windows-store.aspx

Reach and Internationalization:

•There are number of market-specific catalogs, tailored for those customers, and a “rest of world” (ROW) catalog for all other markets.
•Developers can choose where to publish their app.
•The Windows Store will be available in 231 markets worldwide with support for both free and paid apps.

Windows Phone team destroyed.

Seriously, this is how you do a marketplace, folks.

There are the HTC HD7, Dell Venue Pro and HTC Radar. The HTC HD2 can also be hacked to run WP7.5

is there a simple, free app that lets you create windows mobile 7 ringtones from an mp3? I realise you can do it step by step with mp3 editors etc but I'd like a standalone app if possible

There was talk about no revenue split around the time when W8 was first announced. Looks like that is no longer the case. 80 - 20 split.

EDIT: Sorry, the split is 70 - 30 until $25k in sales is reached, then 80 - 20.

The more I think about it, the more Verizon's "We won't stock any new Windows Phones because they don't have LTE" stand pisses me off. So blatantly hypocritical, considering they launched the iPhone 4S with no LTE and I'm sure some Android non-superphones will launch there or have launched there in the fall without LTE. So stupid.

If windows phone enjoyed similar sales, I'm sure they'd make the same exception.

In other news, is there any word on when the companion app is coming? I thought it was supposed to be yesterday, but I can't find it.

I hope 'words with friends' app comes out on WP7.
Also no companion app. :(

I much prefer the AlphaJax grid, letter points, and overall visual style, but at least when I play WWF, it's against people I know. Sucks that the web app has horrible optimization.

If Zynga ever decides to bring their games over to WP, I hope they at least adapt the style to Metro. On that note.. am I the only one who hates Zynga's visual style?

Agreed that AlphaJax is the better game. I'd rather have AlphaJax expand to other platforms than WWF come to WP.
