It's not about exclusive features. You won't see that from Microsoft and it was never really a Microsoft thing. What they're doing now (and should've done a long time ago) is "first and best on Windows". It's stupid not to cover other huge potential markets, but your own platform needs to have that premium feel. I can't kind the presentation anymore.
Kinda like Google does it with the Google apps. Google apps are available for iOS and other platforms, but if you want the full and best Google experience on a phone, get an Android device.
So iOS got an official XBL App today. I have mixed opinions on this. Very mixed opinions.
The app pretty much replicates every single function of WP7, not just XBL related functions. Pretty cool. Best of the both worlds now.

I can even purchase WP7 apps from the marketplace using points with this app. Fucking awesome.Except for getting XBL achievements while playing games. But that's okay. Microsoft doesn't care about it either.
Count me as one of them people that don't like the idea of ios getting Xbox app. Now it really is making have seconds thoughts of staying with W7 phones. Why stay when u can have the best of both by having an iPhone
Accept unless MS tries to get personal ties or money hat or whatever like WP7 always either doesn't get the stuff or is always late to the party. Plus Google keeps somethings like Google Maps in their own sphere.
Plus I'm trying to find what other apps MS really have besides the Xbox app to really push as hey you can get the premium version here other than maybe the Office App. It doesn't help that pushing for a premium xbox on your phone experience would require MS to be the place to get games and they aren't. iOS owns that market hardcore.
So really the only differentiation factor for WP is Metro and MAYBE the people hub. Yet you give up the fact that WP plays second if not 3rd fiddle app wise 9 out of 10 times.

so how r u all getting the companion app? I search "xbox companion" n get only the xbox live app.
It will be interesting to see when they'll release Office for iOS.
I'm guessing it will be "Office on Mac" all over again.

Office as it stands it the only app they have to really stand on though as an exclusive, and I'm not sure enough of the masses care about that to make it a OMFG huge selling point.
Lets not pretend the Xbox Live integration sold any Windows Phone.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to see how going forward wtf MS would use to actually sell the platform?
I'm not gonna lie, when I got rid of my iPhone 4 and got a WP, it was because of the Xbox integration. I hadn't even tried the OS at that point. Xbox sold me back in January.
Which part of the integration was so appealing to you?
The Companion app is cool, but I'm disappointed that you can't buy games off the marketplace WITHOUT having your 360 on for it to link with. Why can't MS add that functionality or at least make a decent enough mobile site that'll let me give them my money!
Anyone post that WhatsApp was updated today? Added audio attachments from what I can see and it seemed a bit faster in opening?
Apparently video messages as well, but I don't see the option for that.
Holy shit, I just was just accosted by members of the "Mango Community Tour Team" and was invited to a free workshop to learn how to develop WP7 apps. Is this a Microsoft thing or were those grassroots advocacy people?
Speaking which, where the hell is our Photosynth?
If there is anyone that hasn't seen the companion app in motion, here's a video I shot. Just sent a quick message and scrolled around.

theyl prob have it in an update or two. but they shouldve had from the get-go.Thanks for the video. They need to update the app to let you use the Windows Phone keyboard for text input.

Thanks for the video! Man why didn't they make text input through the phone keyboard, would have been great.
I'm sorry, what?
^He's making fun of the paranoia around the iOS app release, pointing out that we shouldn't have to worry because the OS and ecosystem and what makes it special extend far beyond just one Xbox Live app.
I quite like the new Xbox app for iPad, more than the WP integrated one. Does possibly take some value away from the phone.
At least we still have over priced games with achievements!
they really need to follow thorough on this. i am expecting big updates for WP, now that they have made an xbox live app for iOS.One thing I noticed:

Maybe Microsoft just ported an old beta build of the Windows 8 XBL app to the iPad?
"First and best on Windows" is our new mantra. :lol
This seems like it should be obvious... and easy, but I can't work it out.
How can I set a default start page for IE on the phone? It just seems to start up with whatever I was viewing last.
Well that sucks. Any word on competing browsers like opera coming to it?that's just how it is, there is no homepage setting weird huh.
Starting today, Dec. 7, and rolling out over the next two weeks we will be releasing software updates to deliver exciting new features and performance enhancements including charging improvements to the award winning Lumia 800. With the fastest growing app store and the highest positive user feedback, the Windows Phone experience on the Lumia 800 is setting the pace in the mobile community. Additional updates will come in early 2012.

That aside, just got asked to update my Lumia 800. No idea what it is though as there seems to be f'all in the way of info in the details.
Edit - This thing apparently:
