Tribes Ascend Beta Thread: Shazbot!

I figured out what was causing the loading issue. It was Microsoft Security Essentials real-time protection. Hopefully they can get that sorted out like the devs of every other game I have.
 
Thanks, I think Infiltrator is my style. What I have learned from other CTF games is that I may not have what it takes to fully escape with the flag, but I'm pretty smooth at quickly finding the weak link of a defense to get into places. In other games I would usually acquire it with the knowledge that I'd die near outside their base, but on a planned hand-off to a well-covered pickup team. Obviously this doesn't work on games with instant flag return. Point is, I can excel at getting in and breaking shit.

Sentinel might be good for me, but I'd have to switch my current mouse setup to get my aiming up for the job.
 
Man Doombringer was a waste unluck so far. The minigun is very weak and the lock-on weapon takes ages to actually lock on :/

If anyone has a code for a Tribes vet, I'd really appreciate it. God, I hope this iteration of the game is faithful to the series...
 
Just got an email saying they added Team Deathmatch and made it easier to buy new classes. You can also change the size of your weapon. Nice.

Major Highlights since Version 0.1.562

The Team Deathmatch gametype is now available for play on two maps (Drydock Night and Crossfire). Upon the first death in the match, a flag will spawn. Your team earns a bonus for each kill made while the team holds the flag.
Added a “First Win of the Day” Challenge that rewards additional XP and tokens upon your first victory in a day. The "day" begins at 09:00 UTC time.
Added the “Orbital Strike” call-in (default bound to "3"). It is similar to the Tactical Strike, with a much wider radius and higher credit cost.
Reduced the token amounts required to unlock classes.
Settings: “Reduce Weapon Size” option has been added along with many others, including an option to disable help messages and an option to disable framerate smoothing.
Matchmaking: Very basic match-making segmentation to help lower ranked players play with lower-ranked players.
Fixed a number of bugs that caused sudden speed drops when skiing or jetting uphill. Other issues may remain. Please report as you find them.
By default, objective icons for all major elements on a map (generators, vehicle stations, equipment stations, etc) are now shown when you first enter a map. Hit "O" to turn off the markers.

Balance Changes

General: Increased both the time before health regeneration begins and the duration of the regeneration.
General: The credit reward for a kill assist has been increased.
Brute: The Fractal Grenade is now available for testing.
Brute: The Heavy Spinfusor now does more damage to vehicles and base turrets.
Doombringer: Minor improvements have been made to the missile tracking on the Saber Launcher.
Juggernaut: The Heavy AP Grenade’s damage to players has been increased.
Juggernaut: The Heavy AP Grenade’s damage to generators has been reduced.
Raider: The Grenade Launcher’s damage has been slightly reduced.
Ranger: The AP Grenade’s damage to players and generators has been reduced.
Survivalist Perk: Reduced the health and ammo gain to 20%, down from 35%.

Additional Items

Several crash fixes
Variety of modifications to existing CTF maps for balance and visuals.
Code was added to fix/prevent the “godmode” damage bug that sometimes occurs.
The loading screen has been updated to include map name, game rules, and various gameplay tips.
The Rabbit scoreboard has been improved.
The class screen now highlights the Pathfinder and Juggernaut classes (the least expensive) if you have not unlocked them.
Summary window may be closed at match end to allow for chatting and VGS use.

edit: the updating is really weird. Either it is blazing fast or it happens in the background. I start the launcher and it has the new version already.

All the cool kids are unlocking infiltrator so they can kill flag carriers in three pistol shots
 
Excellent updates! I'm looking forward to honing my Spinfusor skills with some TDM, and the WoT-style daily bonuses are a very welcome addition. Also, matching low-ranked players with each other will definitely help me be a bit less of an embarrassment. :P

It really seems like Hi-Rez is taking the community's concerns seriously and acting on them in a timely fashion, which is exactly how things should be in a good beta.

They gimped the Raider's nade launcher (instead of SMG), the Ranger's grenade (instead of thumper), and zero shrike nerfs. Pretty much ignoring the three major balance issues right now.

I'm sure they'll fix them after the Invitational Scrims where every team will be made up of rangers, raiders, and shrikes.
 
Tribes is gonna be on NASL Season 3 as one of the esports titles, dunno prize pool or date, probably early next year.

Watching the video makes me have good memories of the first game.
 
I just heard that.

Don't think Tribes can really succeed or bring back big FPS e-sports events in the US. I mean, quake live couldn't do it, CS:GO has yet to prove itself, and shooters in general are so console-dominated.
 
Quake live wasn't trying to do it. It's too old to actually accomplish that. Quake (3/Live, anyway) is on its last legs as a competitive game, sadly. Dropped from IEM, top players retiring or considering retirement soon. It's a pretty bleak future.

So I got a key a few days ago, but every time I boot up the Hi-Command thing and go to Tribes it has the red button that says "Busy". I already put in my code and everything so I'm wondering why I cant install it or play it or whatever my next step is.

Also, whenever I boot the game up, it says I need 4 more GB of space to install Global Agenda Live. Do I need to install that in order to play Tribes or something? Thanks.

The 'busy' thing means its downloading the game itself. Just leave it open and let it do its thing. You don't need GA.
 
They really need to change the pricing structure of this game. Reduce prices by 50%. It should be $15 for 90 days of 'boost', not $30. That's $60/yr vs current $120/yr.

Edit: I feel dirty. I bought a 10 day booster because I figure I'll play for at least the next week and didn't wanna spend $15/30. Problem for them is, I for SURE would've bought a 90 day pass... if it were $15.
 
So I will ask again. How well will this run on my mac if I boot camp to windows 7. I will install it in a heart beat if I can get Tribes to play well.

6970m = Desktop 6850. I used to have one. That rig will max Tribes Ascend out @ any resolution @ 60 FPS CONSTANT. Enjoy.

Fuck yes. Time to have windows on a home computer for the first time since my motorola mac clone running Mac OS 8. Lets say its been awhile. Time to find one of those "PC help threads"

So pumped. Played tribes on PS2 back in theday and loved it.

This thread is awesome. I was always under the impression my graphics card was weak cause it was a mobility chip. If its good enough for this Im happy. Plus Im going to open up way more options for gaming with 7 on my setup. I think a 100 GB partition should be large enough.

6970M is one of the most powerful mobile GPU's. I had one in my m17x R3 running @ 6870~ speeds. Very, very fast chip. Handles almost every game maxed out at 1080p. You're gonna have a blast.

I haven't played Tribes in so long I've almost forgotten how. It's slowly coming back to me. Nice thing is it recognizes the buttons on multiple-button mice.
