Windows Phone 7 |OT|

The app pretty much replicates every single function of WP7, not just XBL related functions. Pretty cool. Best of the both worlds now.

It's not about exclusive features. You won't see that from Microsoft and it was never really a Microsoft thing. What they're doing now (and should've done a long time ago) is "first and best on Windows". It's stupid not to cover other huge potential markets, but your own platform needs to have that premium feel. I can't kind the presentation anymore.

Kinda like Google does it with the Google apps. Google apps are available for iOS and other platforms, but if you want the full and best Google experience on a phone, get an Android device.

Yeah yeah, I know.

I was just playing with you all.

Count me as one of them people that don't like the idea of ios getting Xbox app. Now it really is making have seconds thoughts of staying with W7 phones. Why stay when u can have the best of both by having an iPhone. I'd like to also add that buying the iPad instead of waiting for W8 tablet just got a whole lot easier.

Accept unless MS tries to get personal ties or money hat or whatever like WP7 always either doesn't get the stuff or is always late to the party. Plus Google keeps somethings like Google Maps in their own sphere.

Plus I'm trying to find what other apps MS really have besides the Xbox app to really push as hey you can get the premium version here other than maybe the Office App. It doesn't help that pushing for a premium xbox on your phone experience would require MS to be the place to get games and they aren't. iOS owns that market hardcore.

So really the only differentiation factor for WP is Metro and MAYBE the people hub. Yet you give up the fact that WP plays second if not 3rd fiddle app wise 9 out of 10 times.

In what way is the xbox ios app even close to as good as the wp7 one.... there is no xbox live enabled games, achievements, the xbox companion app, multiplayer, etc on the ios app. This is just an official version of the 3rd party ones already on there.

It will be interesting to see when they'll release Office for iOS.
I'm guessing it will be "Office on Mac" all over again.

I can even purchase WP7 apps from the marketplace using points with this app. Fucking awesome.

I'm sorry, what?

Office as it stands it the only app they have to really stand on though as an exclusive, and I'm not sure enough of the masses care about that to make it a OMFG huge selling point.

Lets not pretend the Xbox Live integration sold any Windows Phone.

I don't disagree. The potential was there though if you know we actually got games for the system. MS doesn't seem to really care all that much though, and half of the game division people at MS use iPhones.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to see how going forward wtf MS would use to actually sell the platform?

People love the WP7 experience and User Interface. I don't think it has much to do with Office or Xbox Live. They like Live Tiles, they like Integrated Messaging, they like the People Hub, they like the Pictures Hub.

I'm not gonna lie, when I got rid of my iPhone 4 and got a WP, it was because of the Xbox integration. I hadn't even tried the OS at that point. Xbox sold me back in January.

Holy shit, I just was just accosted by members of the "Mango Community Tour Team" and was invited to a free workshop to learn how to develop WP7 apps. Is this a Microsoft thing or were those grassroots advocacy people?

Which part of the integration was so appealing to you?

Just Xbox as a whole. The iPhone at that point didn't have a good way to really connect and see what was going on while you were away. I know it wasn't much back then, and still isn't "great" but I enjoy communicating with my friends when I'm away.

The potential for xbl integrations is what first sold me on the phone. I've had my focus since launch. Now I've come to really like the live tiles and the UI. I'm thinking its just a matter of time before they add more functionality to the ios app. It might just be me overreacting.

The Companion app is cool, but I'm disappointed that you can't buy games off the marketplace WITHOUT having your 360 on for it to link with. Why can't MS add that functionality or at least make a decent enough mobile site that'll let me give them my money!

Hopefully they will continue to expand the app's functionality, which I'm sure they will.

Anyone post that WhatsApp was updated today? Added audio attachments from what I can see and it seemed a bit faster in opening?

Apparently video messages as well, but I don't see the option for that.

And yet we still can't open simple HTML links.

LOL they are going to hire you as a Community Ambassador.

This seems like it should be obvious... and easy, but I can't work it out.

How can I set a default start page for IE on the phone? It just seems to start up with whatever I was viewing last.

I quite like the new Xbox app for iPad, more than the WP integrated one. Does possibly take some value away from the phone.

At least we still have over priced games with achievements!

the iPhone app is getting a lot of positive buzz. they are loving metro. perhaps this tease will sway some over to the platform.

oh, I hate how tmobile is getting the nokia 710 and not the 800. that makes the HTC radar and the 710 their only new phones, both phones being very low-mid level. meanwhile, ATT gets 2 high end phones with the focus s and the titan. still not a lot of choices for WP, come on Nokia, make the magic happen.

One thing I noticed:

Maybe Microsoft just ported an old beta build of the Windows 8 XBL app to the iPad?

"First and best on Windows" is our new mantra. :lol

I loves me some Metro on iOS. And it's not just Microsoft getting in on the action!

Since I hate Apple's default Music app, I've been using an app called Muzik that does an extremely impressive job mimicking the WP7 Zune app. It's pretty spectacular, and a huge 4.0 update was just posted.

Since the WP7 phones each seem to have some fatal flaw hardware-wise, this should tide me over until Microsoft gets around to releasing that Zune HD7 I've been dreaming about or Asus decides to release that amazing brushed-metal prototype from way back.

I'm just glad that Metro is spreading to the plebes like me, it's my favorite UI ever.

that's just how it is, there is no homepage setting weird huh.
Well that sucks. Any word on competing browsers like opera coming to it?

That aside, just got asked to update my Lumia 800. No idea what it is though as there seems to be f'all in the way of info in the details.

Edit - This thing apparently:

Starting today, Dec. 7, and rolling out over the next two weeks we will be releasing software updates to deliver exciting new features and performance enhancements including charging improvements to the award winning Lumia 800. With the fastest growing app store and the highest positive user feedback, the Windows Phone experience on the Lumia 800 is setting the pace in the mobile community. Additional updates will come in early 2012.
