Only that one of the best developers in the biz, having just released a game, has announced a new IP this late in the generation that they've been working on secretly. And it looks amazing :)

whats shocking is you didnt figure it out somehow

totally glad you've figured out our entire narrative and gameplay mechanics from a two and a half minute cinematic trailer. i was worried it wouldnt be evident. groan.

Obviously I don't know what the game is about. My reply was my gut reaction to what I saw and the similarity to Enslaved, overgrown nature cities, art style, male/female duo partnership with one being a weak link. (I happened to like Enslaved).

Great trailer. Really looking forward to hearing how it plays. ND going the survival route'd make me very happy.

Ellen Page, yay!

One thing I credit the Sony devs for are focusing on the areas of visuals that REALLY make a game look nice.. Animation, lighting, and physics really make what I'm seeing here stand out.

Actually, it's a nice sign that it's actually real-time on a PS3 to show the non-believers :)

On a second look there's actually a fair bit of shimmering and 'realtime' artifacts around the place. So I BELIEVE.

I just hope the fancy camera effects, the blur etc. is in-game too.

The animation on the dead guy when she turns him over is great...the way his lip flops etc.

Really hope it ISN'T open-world.

Would hate for ND to go the boring open-world route and also have to impact their incredible graphics.

Yeah well I don't like corridor interactive movie games with input lag, ND doing something different this Gen would be nice.

With ND having 2 teams and still making what is probably a quality product I am just mind blown. I did have some not so nice things to say about UC3, but that's only because there were just so many good things the bad ones are more noticeable. Personally my game of the year was UC3 so seeing Naughty Dog with something new already has got me hyped.

And arne is in the thread whoo!

so i get that all this footage is from the engine, and that's definitely very impressive, but is it like the uncharted 2 (dunno if uncharted 3 does this, haven't played it) movies where they are in-engine renders that were touched up? cause this almost looks too good to be true.

I'd argue that UC3 offers some of the most open and tactically diverse shooting segments in any shooter out there. The ship graveyard segment in particular. About the farthest thing from a linear 'corridor interactive movie' as you could possibly get.

This looks absolutely great, Naughty Dog somehow managed to put a filter on it, to achieve a near perfect cg look. Bar the occasional AA coming through and the amount of geometry very doable for the PS3 the presentation is Uncharted territory.

Very interested for some gameplay, this is a 2012 title?

Cutscenes in the Uncharted games use in-game art assets. Only the lighting and shadow quality are increased.

Edit: Actually, in regard to in-game and cutscene character models, in Drake's Fortune they were identical, while in Among Thieves only Drake's in-game model was identical to his cutscene model. I'm not sure what the case is with Uncharted 3.

No one knows for sure. Some are speculating that it is because we now know that it's been in development for two years. But nothing is confirmed at this point.

When is Sony holding their Holiday Showcase Event? I doubt we'll get any new info there, but there's always a chance that someone will slip up. :p

I like to imagine the people that say things like "ugh, another zombie game?", will say those things, then go play something like Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3.

LOl, those same people probably bought dead island too, which is as cliche a zombie tale as its going to get.

But seriously? It's a ps3 exclusive, it's by one of the best developers outthere, and it's looking freaking next gen. Whatelse are the haters gonna bitch about lol.

AA and AF are the same as in-game, if that's what you're asking with "touched up".

Obviously I can't answer your question as it applies to The Last of Us since all we have is this trailer; I was just expanding on your understanding of ND's cutscene practices with Uncharted.

If this game has Move support then Jeff (proper spelling) took my name for nothing.

So far this looks great but it wont take too many "run towards the player with zero consideration towards self-preservation and tactics" for the game to become a slog.

The point is that you won't see the same level of visual fidelity in Uncharted 2 gameplay that you see in the Uncharted 2 movies. So I was wondering if we were seeing this same kind of thing in this new game.

This guy lol. Anyway how could naughty dog possibly handle another production of this scale parrallel to UC's development?

What sort of visual fidelity are you talking about? Resolution, AA, AF levels are identical in cutscenes as to gameplay and they share the same models, textures etc.

Wait, where was it confirmed that the game was worked on for two years already?

Usually pre-production can take up to 8-12 months depending on the game, with only a small core team, so I think it's been in full production for a year. If this is true, and if they can leverage the expertise they've accumulated from the UC3 team, the release window COULD be 2012.

However, if they are coming up with a lot of innovative gameplay or new gameplay mechanics they are unfamiliar with, a longer dev cycle wouldn't be surprising to me.

2013 is too far away though, and who knows what state PS3 will be in by then.

And my point is that the differences are negligible, and since ND approached cutscenes virtually identically across all 3 Uncharted games, it is very likely that is also the case with The Last of Us; but we simply don't know for sure since it's early days.
