The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Well damn that. I thought I'll buy my Vita at 7:00 AM but is seems that my local Tsutaya doesn't open until 10AM. Here goes my first Vita flying get on GAF...

Btw., my set is:
PSV WiFi.
Lord of Apocalypse Vita
Little Deviants
PSV Case
16GB memory card

I've only preordered the console, so I hope that I'll be able to get the rest without problems.

Let's not forget that only with GOWIII did SCEJ start publishing those games in Japan because before SCEA had to go through Capcom. Pathetic.
Nothing wrong with that because SCEA themselves didn't publish a lot of SCEJ stuff like Ape Escape 2, Wild Arms games after 3, White Knight Chronicles II, etc. Many of their games were brought stateside by NIS America, XSEED, D3, Capcom (they brought Bombastic over for them), etc.

I cancelled my pre-order when I heard it wouldn't play PSOne games out of the box, but man 5 days away I'm kind of wanting to jump on the bandwagon even though I know I'll regret it. The nearby mall will 100% have them in stock so it's just a matter of pulling the trigger. Ugh. I know I should wait for the slim white HDMI out version..I really don't want black..

Uh, it just came to my mind, that we still don't know when can we expect the new software to replace Media Go, right? What about my Type-0 saves. :<

I'm assuming PS3 transfer from UK/US accounts won't work at all for JPN vita until UK/US launch? Not even for PSP games?

and any update on my chances of picking one up from a shop by just walking in, no preorder?

I think this isn't a question that anyone can answer before Saturday...

ok. How about 'what strategy would you use if you wanted to maximise your chances of one without a preorder?'. eg major chain in central Tokyo, small store in a small town? Going on previous launch experiences..

Based on the amount of people I saw when placing a preorder I'd choose a smaller shop in more remote part of Tokyo. I've preordered my in Fuchuu Tsutaya and I have a feeling they'll have some left. As for the game and accessories, the strategy I plan to use if I won't be able to buy all of them there, is to go to Shinjuku and to Shibuya/Akiba/Ikebukuro if I won't find them in Shinjuku.

If I remember PS2 release correctly, people from one of Polish game magazines, bought their without problems in a smaller shop, as the lines in Bic camera etc. were just too long.

Thankfully in the insane markup has stopped me from importing this only two months early, but I got to admit the launch lineup is very impressive.

Since I'm studying Japanese now, I'm really thinking about going for a Japanese account only to force me to play though in Kanji/kana. That, and I never did get a chance to play Persona 4 so the Vita update looks promising!

The 4.00 update was for all regions so in theory the functionality is there already, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Probably best to wait just in case though.

It's a good idea, but you have to remember that Japanese game prices are higher than the EU/US ones.

Yeah, I have a PS3 but it's about 8602 km from here. Well, if Sony doesn't publish it, guess I'll go to a friend's house or something.

Just save a dummy game on the Vita to see where it saves PSP saves, then copy manually via USB on your computer then.

New software should be bundled though, I guess. Just wish there was a Mac version.

Good point, but hopefully the online purchases will make it feel not so much of a price hike
That's true, but I don't think there's a way to get the PSN points for their actual price in places other than actual Japanese stores.

Sanrio is a company that makes Hello Kitty. The one on the picture is Toro, Sony's mascot. Btw, I have the one on the right >.<

Did you buy it in a physical store? I didn't have time to look this last time, but the previous time I went to Japan, I had no idea where to look for Toro stuff :(

I bought it in one of the small import shops in Hong Kong. When I was in Japan I also didn't see them anywhere, and my GF is Rilakkuma fanatic, so there was no need to look for Toro.

hopefully some of our J-Gafers will post their pick ups in the thread as well as those who are doing their midnight/early morning releases
There's no midnight release as far as I know and Shibuya Tsutaya stars selling their copies at 7AM.
I think it's pretty stupid, considering they started taking preorders at 0:00 15.10...

Good, that means you'll have to wait hehehehehe.
Feel the pain of us US-gaffer who have to wait 2 more months.

Mate, I'll have to wait 3 more hours, because the shop where I've preordered my Vita isn't open until 10:00AM. THE PAIN. Good thing there's a party here at the university the day before, won't have any problems sleeping.

Not comparable. God of War is an AAA blockbuster franchise, the games you mentioned are all niche, Ape Escape included. Even Demon's Soul, which was a major bonehead move by SCEA and SCEE, is still niche compared to God of War.

Thats what Im hoping for. J-Gaf impressions are going to be one of the deciding factors in whether or not I keep my preorder. Im excited to see what they have to say.

I dunno how they can avoid it. If it is to be compatible with current PSP saves, it must be FAT-based, right? Or can they avoid that at OS level?

PSP's format has nothing to do with it. You can transfer saves from the PSP to an NTFS drive and vice versa as many times as you want.

It would probably be handled through Media Go.

Keiician, the Yodobashi Camera east of Shinjuku station was still taking pre-orders for the 3G Vita when I was in there a week or so ago. Mine is reserved at their Ueno store, along with a 4 GB card (Y1980) -- they were out of the bigger memory cards already but the 4 GB had plenty of stock. Games were no problem; they were taking orders for all of them, and all had small discounts off the MSRP. Sofmap in Akihabara was the same -- don't fret!

That's not what I mean. I meant when you stick a PSP memory stick in a card reader, you can read it. But then I realised that Vita memory is proprietary and my plan would fail at that part (T-T)

Well, I haven't seen the system yet, but as I understand it you don't do any file management from the PC, running that all from the Vita itself... So, you may be able to use the Vita interface to navigate through your PC folders and select files to copy, but if they're as serious about security this time around as I think they'll be, it will more likely all be abstracted through the Vita interface so that direct file access is not easily done, perhaps even going so far as to encrypt the Vita files stored on your computer. Meaning getting saves transfered is something you need the intermediary programs for, in the form of either MediaGo or your PS3...

Yeah, it seems that getting a 3G Vita shouldn't be a problem, I think that Amazon still has it open for preorders. WiFi model is another story.
Well, thanks for the info, seems I'll be able to get my 16GB/Case/LoA without problems, which is good news.

:(...

I dont want to live in this world anymore.gif

That is correct. All transfers are done on the Vita Side of things.

I'll have 2 3G Vitas 2 HD cameras, direct feed from PS3 to show how the transfer process works and 2 mics. Mehdi and myself will start from about 11am JST.
I'm in the process of making a thread, I'll post it once it's done.

Titles on show:

Uncharted
Minna no Golf 6
Ridge Racer
Army Corps of Hell
Dream Club
Dynasty Warriors
Power Smash Tennis
Little Deviants (downloadable title 2,000)
AR Combat (free download game from Konami).

Can you throw and old PSP game in there so we can see what they look like on the VITA, thanks,

Would you be willing to use that OT to alert people which games have English in them (like Uncharted) when the games are finally out.

Unfortunately, I only know of Uncharted (HK release) supporting English. I'm debating if I should go the extra mile and making posts for each individual launch game in the Japanese launch thread to highlight media and stuff...

The JP version also includes English. I would wager that every version released around the globe includes English. I'll be checking a few of the other games too, but I wouldn't imagine many JP launch games include English, besides the SCEI titles.

I'm 99% sure LoA won't include the English option.
