Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Right. From my point of view, dagger is worse than blink as an escape in nearly all situations.

Blink is always good and has short cooldown. Dagger only works if there is a barrier to go through and in a team fight many times Haunts is just worthless as an escape, since everyone is there. Spectre's escape are much more situational.

Then it's clear most DOTA2 players haven't gotten used to him.

I can't say Blink CM isn't effective, because it really is, but Blink is hard to farm on her and still leaves her squishy as hell. I can see the logic behind Blink + BKB but it's not a common way to play her (mostly because she really can't afford both Blink and BKB along with wards and such).

You get 19 points of hp for each point of STR, that's the main reason to get Bracers.
But no, you should never ever ever ever ever ever start out with one of the +6/+3/+3 stat items. Get the 150g +3 items, or the 185g +2/+2/+2, but never complete it until you really need the room and you have nothing else to buy. Since you will want at least 200g worth of HP regen, and courier/wards is another 200g, you'll be left with 200g for branches (+1 to all)
/gauntlets of ogre strength (+3 STR) /clarities (100 mana over 50 seconds).

Other items to consider as an INT hero:
Urn of Shadows.
Eul's Scepter of Divnity
Force Staff
Mekansm

Item choice, for supports, really comes down to what your team needs and what you can feasibly farm up without hurting your ward game.

Dont forget drum and medallion.

just came off a game at 43-5 as first time playing Storm Spirt. Holy crap hes good. I did 11-1-15 myself.

This noob Riki keeped on going into our Rev Wards.

Disappointed Storm Spirit is not a Panda.

Didn't think people like this existed in betas, but my team has a guy feeding the opponent. Dude is basically afk at our top tower and runs in the enemy as they come, done it now 3 times and someone is also running our courier there. Another player started afking in base. Great.

edit: And now we have an animal courier inside our flying courier.

So after a few weeks playing in the beta I've narrowed down some of my favorite heroes and would like to start working on improving with them.

Here's the list of my top favorites. Morphling, Faceless Void, Windrunner, Puck and Enigma. I don't have any problem playing support characters and in Pubs I'll fill whatever role is lacking on our team. I've probably spent as much time in practice matches as I have in random Pubs with a bunch of characters but, I would like to learn to play a carry more effectively since that is the role I have found most enjoyable. Does anyone have any tips on farming? Specifically with Morphling, I have a really hard time keeping up in terms of gold and xp.

Random side note. Out of the 30 something matches I've played I have actually only run into 1 really big douche. I was worried after my experience with HoN that things might be even worse but so far so good. *knock on wood*

I'm not sure where exactly your issue with farming is, but if it's the actual last-hitting, there's not much to do except practice. Try to memorize the time it takes for your animation and the shot to land on the creep. It's a little different for every hero, for example, with Zeus, you can see a small lightning flash shortly before he actually fires the shot, things like that can help you with aligning your shots with the creeps' HP. Of course, a quelling blade can help with farming as well, just because you do more damage and the timing window becomes bigger.

So is there a way to effectively bind equipment keys that doesn't involve me needing an extra hand or fingers? How do you guys deal with this shit?

Oh man, this didn't even cross my mind. I was doing some absolutely bonkers garbage with my keyboard.

Thanks.

I bought a Razer Naga when I was still really big into WoW, and even though it's marketed as an MMO mouse, it's proved to be so useful in other games as well. In Dota, I have all my items bound to the thumb buttons.

Yeah, I've amused the notion of picking that up, but I have a hard time putting that kind of cash down on a mouse. And the two side buttons on my Deathadder get the job done.

On games that aren't Dota, anyways.

Yea its a great mouse, just hope you get a working one, every mouse I get from Razer breaks within a month (no I don't pound on it)

Seems you can spectate people not on your friends list by doing the following:

It requires their Steam profile to be public, however.

1. Launch your game, make sure the console is enabled.
2. Shift-tab or Alt-tab and go to their Steam profile.
3. Click "Join game in progress"
Your console will print out something like this:

Connecting to public(146.66.152.146:27019) ...
74.950: Sending UDP connect to public IP 146.66.152.146:27019
Disconnect: You must be in a lobby to connect.

4. Copy and paste the ip and port, and change the port accordingly:
270xx=280yy, where yy=xx+5
For example, port 27019 tranlates into 28024
5. Type into console: connect ip:port

For example: connect 146.66.152.146:28024

From the dev forums.

Number keys? (1-6) They are directly above QWER. Extra mouse buttons (if you have any) are also pretty neat for that. Alt+Q, Alt-W etc. are used for turning orb effect-type attacks on or off (Drow's Frost Arrows etc.) which I always like having.

The description on one of her moves clearly states that Puck is a "she". I don't know why there'd be confusion with it but a lot of people seem to think Puck is a guy.

They go out of their way in the "Lore" section to refer to Puck as "it," genderless. The she in the ultimate text must be an oversight.

Is there a particular hero, if any, I would want to start off with as someone who is mostly new to the genre? I've played a bot match with Omniknight and also watched some matches and it seems like he would be suitable for helping me get a better feel for the flow of the game.

Play omni, heal people, shield the carry, win the game.

People not knowing who Puck was named after.

SMH.

They do the same for morphling. Yet they refer to it as a him in his skill tabs, cause no one likes calling a character it over he or she. So yes I guess its an oversight, if by oversight you mean mentioned on three of Puck's skill tabs.

Played my first match vs live people last night and ended up winning. Picked Dazzle, bought the courier and wards, and took the top lane with Tidehunter. The other team seemed kind of disorganized, so we started off against a tri-lane on top, but we were soon able to isolate a couple heros and pick them off.
After that we regrouped for some big team fights where I was able to hit a few well-timed heals and shallow graves so our teams came through with very few deaths. Picked up Arcane Boots and a Mekansm, and with the help of a very strong Broodmother on our team we were able to push straight through to their ancient. Felt good, thanks for the advice!

*I have no expectations that this win will be any indication of future success. I know I suck.

It's mentioned in Phase Shift and nowhere else.

ugh, gave this a shot but I guess it's just not for me. Haven't managed to get any kills yet as any one of three different characters. Had to turn voice chat off almost immediately so I didn't have to listen to sweaty agitated men frequently from other countries screaming indignantly like their lives were riding on this game. It sucks tho, I wish I could give my beta invite to someone who actually knew what the fuck was going on or at least found this enjoyable.

Highly recommend you join the gaf channel and look for people to play with there. Generally they're a lot friendlier, being a part of the same forum and all, although I've met a few stinkers.

If you want to spice things up with something else than Omni, try Dazzle. He's definitely an easy hero to use, you immediately get a spell that makes you(or whoever you cast it on) unable to die for 5 seconds + heals. It's a support hero.

I think I'm gonna make the move from HoN to Dota2 starting today. Played a game last night as pudge and went 11-1. Had more fun than I usually do.

Might even play with gaf this time around. (not swag tho, he sucks)
