On a more cheerful note I know a number of us aren't seasoned in DoTA and are still looking for support and Purge has you covered. He's also the guy who wrote the intro guide for DoTA.

Newbies rejoice! \o/

Edit: Apologies for the people who had invited me to games when I didn't accept I was already in a game! Alas Dota 2 doesn't tell you this unless you are on their friends list.
I had a "woah" moment when Pillowknight randomly appeared in Purge's Death Prophet video.

This is awesome, thanks for posting the link.

You know you can check how much gold each person has right?

RIGHT???

Answer a question for me, honestly. If you were in a game, and the dedicated supports weren't buying wards, and you weren't playing a hard carry. And, let's assume that when you asked them to buy wards, they didn't.

Would you persist in not buying wards as some kind of revenge against them?

What happens is when some noob plays a carry like my self, some support players will slack off on supporting because I suck. I'm guessing who ever was the carry in your game did not hold the same weight as say Sebulon where they would demand it from the support but rightfully so. He tames all his support to obey just like Samuel L. Jackson did to Christina Ricci. You have to be a nagger, constantly nagging your support to do shit.

I thought Archie was swag and thought it was kind of strange he wasn't yelling at Wes to get wards.

Well, I'm like this because, if I play support, I prioritize warding / Sentry Warding / Dust etc, so it's annoying when the map goes dark, and their are wards waiting to be bought in the shop and the supports are walking around in Treads with Magic wands. I understand playing support isn't all that fun at times, but at least do it right if your going to play it, if I random support I do it right, so I just expect the same from others.

I just played a CM game, where I didn't get boots till 13 minutes cause we were facing a Tiny / Tidehunter / AA tri-lane and I wasn't able to farm, but I still kept wards up and countered the wards AA put up, and flew the chicken first chance I got. Yeah it sucked, but, we won the game cause we could see their gank traffic to mid.

Also Rycho carried with his SF

Played my first two public games. Went 0/18/1 and 0/14/0.

I'm ok with the general mechanics of the game, and I do alright when i'm alone in a lane without an opposing hero, but anytime I meet a player on the opposite team, at any point in the game, I simply get destroyed.

Try a support role then. Stay close (and behind) to your teammates and you might be good for the first time. Also, bot matches are okay to understand the basics.

What is a good way to practice last hitting and denying in laning phase/ I feel like I'm fumbling my hotkeys (dont play many rts games anymore so im out of practice) and the combination of stupidly aggressive bots plus the complete dumbness of the allied bots means bot games arent really helping. I just feeling like the whole thing is a lot harder for me than it should be and I'm just missing something. I also have trouble with positioning my camera correctly.

Any tips or anyone wanna coach?

The input delay and lazy hitboxes makes it way harder to last hit than it should be. If these things ever get patched I would imagine that would help loads. Certain characters also have super delayed attack animations. Watch how much damage is going in on creeps and try to time your shot based on that.

After I get some more free time next week we can open up some practice games and practice last hitting HK. I think you can also choose to keep bots off, so feel free to do that in the mean time and just go mid as any hero and do some last hitting. It might be boring/tedious but once you get the hang of it you'll be okay

I dread tomorrow. 9am is the only final have, and then I plan to come back and play Dota 2 as much as possible. I might even go into the GAF mumble server instead of sticking to my usual hangout.

It's going to be horrible. Hold me. ;_;

Yeah it feels like that. But its not just the animation. I feel like I keep failing to a+left click to deny and I'm not using hold attack or stop. Probably cause my fingers automatically revert to wasd and dont flow across the keyboard correctly.

Disable auto attack.

It'll make your last hitting life so much easier.

It also make invis runes so much easier to use. You can just stand next to a guy, not giving a fuck, then unleash hell when the moment is right.

Auto attack is turned off by default in all forms of invis/windwalking.

It's actually one of the more annoying parts of playing SA actually, since he won't auto farm while you look for gank targets unless you use attack move.

Finished the day 2-1. The loss was a long game, very close, ultimately the enemy Doom Bringer and Huskar got damn big and our Weaver and Shadow Fiend couldn't really outcarry them (we had a problematic lack of damage by the end of it). I played pretty well as a support Venomancer, got lots of wards, participated in a fair number of ganks and most of the teamfights. I made a few goofs, but our carries made far bigger ones (weird to play a game where I can actually say that).

Danke, it's definitely something I try to keep on top of.

Don't think it was like that before, must of been changed since I turn AA off.

Just had a nice comback game, me playing Omniknight. Enemy team trying to take down our barracks for a good 15 minuets, a number of times we had only 2 guys to defend against 4, but we defended and waited.

Near the end, they were trying to barrel down the middle and end it. Timed it just right, bought back, phase boot and ran into the fight, ult, healed up the damaged caster, put repel on the Beastmaster with a Heart, And we stunned the Antimage down long enough to finally kill him straight up (No Ageigs that time), still had a full team, barreled down the middle killing two other people trying to hold us off, destoried the T3 tower, knocked down the barracks, and just kept going to get the Ancient before AM could even revive.

The moral of the story is save for buy backs, or Omniknight will murder you, or something like that.

Was a lot of fun betting on a VS when I repeled my self. Had S&Y, Phase Boots, and and the Degen Aura made it so she could do anything. Sadly, I'm not really a carry, so while I beat on her for a while, when repel ran out she just stunned and ran away.

How should I be building Nightstalkers items and skills? Is the recommend pretty spot on, is the scepter worth it? How about skill order?

I played Storm Spirit again in a matchmaking match we did earlier. Our team still lost unfortunately, but I felt like I could hold my own as SS. The hardest thing about playing him is managing his mana, as he runs out of it quickly, even with barely any use of his ultimate. Of course, his ult is what makes him so much fun though.

On a side note, there was a Pudge on the other team. I really want to give Pudge another go sometime. He seems like he would be fun if I can learn to land those hooks.

Max ult and Void when possible, get one level of Crippling Fear and max it after Hunter in the Night. His item build is very flexible and there is no one "correct" build. I usually start out with two STR gloves, tangos, a salve and 2 branches. I go bottle -> Urn -> Treads -> Vanguard -> Scepter -> Heart (if it goes that long). Other items that are good on him are Face Boots, Eul's and BKB.

Also, pop your ult the second it turns night time and constantly use it. There is no excuse not having your ult on cooldown during the night.

I don't think it's necessary to go vanguard if you're going scepter, especially considering the fact that at the very least you're either getting a bottle or an urn.
Vanguard is good if you're going a more carry-like build, but if you're going agha I think you should get it right away after phase/treads.

Otherwise I completely agree with you!

i'm going to stream at around 8-9ish AM PST and commentate on tips and pointers as i play, for the newer guys who are looking for some insight. i'll take requests on heroes to play and try to answer questions as i play.

This was my second victory with Dazzle, and it was a fun one.

Funny part was after 10 minutes the enemy Pudge was complaining in global chat about how dumb his team was, he always gets the stupid teams and could we please just hurry and end it. Even funnier was that he was on my team in the previous game, doing the exact same thing (except he played lifestealer, jungling and coming late to every team fight then bitching at me for not healing + SG even though my cooldowns weren't up.)

AM may be an ez carry, but you still need to know how to farm better than 260 gpm over 40 minutes. And you need to know not to buy sange.

Ult + shadow wave turned out to be a pretty good combo.
Explain yourself. I love playing Duzzle but still don't understand how his ult can be any good in teamfights. Extra armor theoretically a great thing, but when it comes to practice, not a large amount of heroes can make a good kill using only auto-attack in the heat of the team clash.

-Armor to enemies?

His team was very physical damage heavy and the fact N'aix went Assault means that the carries could shred through their opponents that much quicker.

Especially in late-game battles you'll find you're mistaken. Dota carries scale by increasing physical damage and attack speed. Magic damage matters less in lategame, so armour reduction/increase can turn the tide of teamfights.

Yeah, I know bout armor and use of it; guess I need more time to spend in Dota to see the real difference.

Now that's something I need to remember. Thx.

Both of Dazzle's damage-dealing skills do physical damage, so the armor reduction from the ultimate ultimately (he he) makes EVERYTHING Dazzle does more effective. His poison touch, shadow wave, and of course autoattack all benefit from the armor reduction.

(lol Duzzle)

EDIT: Oh already said by Taborcorn, whatever.
