NHL December |OT| The Team You Cheer For is Not Good Compared To Our Team

So you're saying that when Ovechkin was hot, you would have taken Mike Richards over Ovechkin? Because Ovechkin can't play two way? Because that's exactly what you're saying now. You are saying you would take a two-way forward than the most offensive players in the league. And once again, better +/- than both Mike Richards and Claude Giroux this season.

Also, you disappoint me as a Canucks fan CCF23.

Coming from you, I take that as a compliment. I'd like to think I'm at least somewhat rooted in reality.

You make it incredibly hard to be a Canucks fan. You talk as if we've won something when we've won sweet fuck all. Yes, we have a great team right now with some amazing players, but until we actually fucking win something show a little humility.

I don't see an Art Ross there, and I don't see two of them. I also don't see ANY playoff scoring.

That's cool, you can keep them.

EDIT: OoooOOooh Revenant. +1.

You think that's what Bish's post was saying too? I'm pretty sure every single post I've made has been pretty damn deferential to them as amazing hockey players, yet somehow Bish and Tabris make it seems like I'm calling them busts or something. Tabris is Tabris, but it was more Bish's post that kept me on the topic for as long as I was.
Not going to bother with Tabris, but bish's post was very specific and was a great response to what you and Forza had been saying.

And your method of coming back with "Canucks fans saying [insert something not even Tabris is dumb enough to post]".... weak.

Pretty much. :lol

I probably would have taken OV (at the time) for a few reasons. First, OV appeared to have even more offensive talent than the twins at the time, that is beyond rare for a player his age. OV appeared to have more potential for a defensive game. OV also was a better forechecker. Richards also hadn't completely matured yet, and it wasn't clear how good he would be. Now if I'm building a team the first player (not named Crosby) I would take would probably be Toews because he's shown to be consistent and solid defensively. After that I would probably consider all the other guys I listed pretty close to equal (assuming age is irrelevant otherwise Giroux would be #1).

Claude Giroux and Mike Richards get defensive assignments against the top players in the league every night, play PP AND PK, and both have very often been given lesser talented linemates in order to improve the other players' ability. Your +/- stat isn't very insightful here.

Bish specifically said the twins "dish out hits, more than a few." You agree with this? Twins have improved at taking hits, sure. They've learned to deal with the attention holding onto the puck brings, but really... I'm not gonna say they're "good" at the other aspects of the game. Adequate, but it's not something you'd talk about if you were explaining them.

Just thought you guys should remember Tabris was willing to take a ban after last season's end. We could have ended him then.

Imagine there's no tabris,
It's easy if you try...

He won't. He had his chance and yet decided to come back as an even greater retard than before. I think he enjoys the way it makes him relevant.

How often do you watch the Canucks aside from the playoffs last year? I feel your evaluation of the Sedins defensive game is entirely based on the Canucks playoff run from last season in which they were uncharacteristically terrible. They're far better defensively than they showed in the playoffs.

You're living in the past man. Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger and Gigure were a large part of that Cup run and they're all gone.

The back-checking of Sammy Pahlsson, shutting down by Moen and the production of the Kid line was just as much a reason for that cup win. Neidermayer 2.0 is coming up in Cam Fowler, there is no substitute for Chris Pronger ANYWHERE in the league and Hiller is All-Star calibre. The lack of Neidermayer and Pronger is a 2009 concern.

We've never had that level of /depth ever again though. Still missing that third line centre that was Sammy calibre.

And can't forget some major props to Luongo flopping in Round 2 as well. DUCKS IN 5.

Don't see them a ton, certainly not as much as last year. So I should take that into consideration, but whenever I've seen them since I haven't exactly been impressed.

It's not even like I'm saying they're BAD defensively...

EDIT: Just went back and re-read Bish's post. I also completely disagree with his assessment that the Sedins' play is indicative of what "true" physical play is.

God forbid I ever agree with Tabris on anything, but he's right. This statement (and Bruce's) are eight grades of unadulterated horseshit. The Sedins take a significant amount of abuse, night in and night out, protect the puck better than nearly anyone in the league, and still manage to not only contribute, but thrive. They deliver hits - more than a few - and take more than their share. I can say with absolute certainty that each and every one of your respective teams' GMs would crawl naked over broken glass to get a chance at their services in free agency - ol' Double B tried and failed. Leafs culture in a nutshell lol

That's physical play in a nutshell, not running all over the ice like Hartnell or Tootoo. Anybody can do their job.

I agree with your post except the part about Double-B, he never attempted to sign the Sedins during free agency as that would have been tampering. The league investigated and found no evidence of tampering. Case closed.

We've won everything but the Cup and that's happening this year, so stop being such a "realist" like socreges and enjoy the Canucks ride. Let go of the 40 year old baggage. Stop being a critic and be a fan.

You realize that last year it was the same shit, right?...and we lost. You know we lost, right? You know we've lost every year since we came into the league, right? You know an art ross, hart, jack adams, selke, jennings, pearson, and presidents trophy - while nice - mean absolutely zero in the big picture if you don't win a Stanley Cup, right?

The fucked up thing is you actually believe I don't enjoy being a Canucks fan because I show some humility based on the fact that all the Canucks have done since coming into the league is fail.

Fucking hell.

Man, imagine how lost this thread would be if a team with (pretty much) zero representation in here got into the stanley cup finals?

Wild vs Panthers 2012 final. Book it.

I can't believe we're having this conversation about the Sedins now, in 2011. Obviously there's not been much hockey on TV over the last few nights.

This season has taught me that must-win games (other team missing player(s) ) like tonight we lose.

Hope you're right. Leaving for the bar now for some trivia night and hockey. Got all my Flyers gear on and ready to talk to recently minted Caps fans. I'm really hoping to run into one who doesn't know Jagr spent time with the Caps.

Sorry for the troll sazabi, can't resist on game night!

We'd likely all be MUCH nicer people for about a month.

I agree with that and the context within which you found it:

"The Sedins take a significant amount of abuse, night in and night out, protect the puck better than nearly anyone in the league, and still manage to not only contribute, but thrive. They deliver hits - more than a few - and take more than their share."

Again, that undoes your argument about it being "easy to be durable".

Lay off Tabris guys, nothing wrong with a fan supporting his team. Tabris sounds like a cool guy to hang with, always positive and shit. Guys in here could take some lessons.

Fucking truth.

I said their style of play lends itself to being durable, as in comparing it to a player like Toews, Richards, Giroux, etc. It's not really "easy."

And saying the Sedins deliver "more than a few" hits in any context is just wrong. They each average like one hit ever 5 games....

I also find it hard to call what they do "physical" play. Everyone gets hit. What types of players play less physical games than the Sedins?

Ok, really off to the bar now...

Greene Turtle?

Nah, small place little farther up the red line.

I'm with CCF here. The baggage remains until you win. Tabris is 14 so he hasn't lived through any real disasters. It's no different than my Caps or Leafs. Baggage remains until they win.
However, I've long resigned myself to the fact that both teams will never win the Cup as long as I'm alive. I've seen too much to make me a believer.

I'm not bitter at all. In fact, it makes my daily life a lot more enjoyable that way. Caps choke a 3-1 serious lead? No problem. "May I have a tall Americano?" will be the first thing I utter the next morning followed closely by "what grade do you think she's in?"

I also have a better chance at 80 years old at bagging a 16 year old than the Caps and Leafs ever do at winning a Cup.

It's win/win for me until I hit 80 and a monumental challenge either way.

Fixed for accuracy.

TRAPPED. You just admitted you believe my statement of the Canucks winning the Stanley Cup this season is accurate. You're a fan underneath all of that cynical baggage :p

"Your thoughts betray you, Socreges. I feel the good in you, the conflict."

If the Panthers won the cup then Versteeg and Campbell would win TWO Stanley Cups within THREE years.

Factor that into your stat pipe and smoke it!

Marvie, if the Wild won, would you actually go watch the parade?

(I'm having way too much fun with this hypothetical scenario)

That's what hurt so bad for me about last year was that after games 2 and 5 I legitimately believed the Canucks were actually going to win the Cup. After it all unfolded the way it did I'll never again believe they'll do it until they actually do. I may think or hope they'll do it, but I won't actually believe it.

Fei, we understand. He makes it hard for us, too.

Only the part in bold was fixed. There aren't enough hours in the day to correct all the ways in which you're wrong.
