I am getting a 15FPS boost with Skyboost!! Now its freaking silky smooth in towns (31-35fps) and almost 50fps outside. Keep in mind, I started with 14fps outside before messing with the .ini file and the skyboost mod, so I'm ecstactic!

So how do I install Skyboost? It says to put the dinput8.dll and SkyBoost.asi in the Skyrim folder, but do you do anything with the files in the src folder? If not, why are they there?

I kept them just because. Stick that src folder in the same root directory as the dx8 and SkyBoost files.

What kinds of tests to be specific? The game is definitely not optimized as you can see by the mod community picking up the slack. Let me know what you would like to compare.

Just a OC test of your GPU. Do the looking at Whiterun which your stock speed + skyboost.

Then exit the game, OC your GPU to the max you feel comfortable and do the Whiterun + skyboost again.

For me, my FPS remianed the same meaning I wasn't being gpu limited but skyboost gave me a 12dfps advantage which tells me that I'm now at the mercy of game engine optimization for better performance.

Just wanted to see if others with high end setups notice the same thing.

Yes, not that I don't want to run that sort of test but I've already ran it in read about it to the point of exhaustion :p

The game is CPU limited when it should be the GPU which should dictate the fps more. These last couple of CPU fixes exposed what optimization's could do. We already figured out the LAA issue really early on and fixed it and then Beth followed suit and finally implemented it themselves. Now we're seeing the community find fantastic solutions that really make the difference.

Long story short, you are seeing what you're seeing because the game wasn't optimized.

My setup is a 2500k@4.7, 6970 2GB, and 8GB RAM

Yeah. I'm going to just run my GPU at stock. No need to stress is when there is no benefit. Instead, I'll wait for community optimizations and such. Thanks for keeping the thread updated btw.

If anything, try getting the best driver and maybe OC'ing it if you can. Otherwise, don't look for huge yields like the CPU optimization's or the dev/community fixes.

Okay, I haven't done any ini tweaking, and when I installed that skyboost mod and switched the details to ultra I was getting 65-70fps outside Whiterun. Looks like I can do plenty more tweaking if I wanted but it looks fantastic to me so I may just leave it alone.

Oh and the new Nvida drivers are awesome. Definitely improved Skyrim performance.

Skyboost is amazing; it's far better than TESVAL. The game's finally 60 FPS 80% of the time. Specs are an Intel Core i3 2100 and Gigabyte Radeon 6850.

BioShock Infinite is like playing some homeless guy's vivid imagination
Is there a first-person horse mod?

What kind of bone-headed decision was it to force third-person when riding a horse? Shit sucks.

Thank you, I'll try those and report back

Alternatively you can try SkyBoost, which only requires you to put two files (dinput8.dll and SkyBoost.asi) in your base Skyrim directory. The one where TESV.exe is located.

Don't need to run SKSE for that, or worry about using a loader, but you might want to install and use SKSE anyway for mods like SkyUI.

A little better.

Pretty much.

Arisu is the original mod author of the TESV Acceleration Layer, so he's responsible for the bulk of all the optimisation work.

The author of SkyBoost, Alexander Blade, then took the source for TESVAL that Arisu provided to the community, reworked it into C++, made it use Script Dragon (which he also created) instead of SKSE, and added Windows 8 support and a few minor optimisations of his own.

Hey, I just got this on Christmas and was trying some mods using Mod Organizer. What does it mean when some of the mods are grayed out but others are not?

This is getting a little complex, hopefully I can run this well

Guys. I need some help.

This is my first foray into PC gaming. I've got a decent machine - close to recommended specs for Skyrim. Here's a list of what I'm working with:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
Memory: (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

Plenty of memory, running of a dedicated HDD. Yet, it looks like this:

What the fuck is going on? Also, I can't play more than 5 minutes without my CPU overheating - even with Windows 95 graphics. Using the stock i5 heatsink. Think it's worth upgrading to something more substantial?

Edit - wow. Um, okay. Apparently my card was behind a few updates. This is the difference:

The question about the overheating CPU remains though...

I let Nexus Mod Manager install Skyboost for me. I ended up getting my first CTD in 62 hours of playtime about 10 minutes into playing. Gonna try manually installing it for whatever reason. If I get another crash, I'll go back to my vanilla loadout.

TESV Acceleration Layer :

Does the MOD boost the fps at all times or just at specific locations?

If that's the case are there many situations like that trough out all the game?

Mainly cities but it boosts general performance. You're quite behind as there is an even better mod that trumps that one in SkyBoost.

It improves the performance in CPU limited situations. To what extent this applies depends on the CPU/GPU balance of your system, but it's mostly the case in towns.

The latest TESVAL doesn't seem to have any drawbacks though, so I see no reason not to use it.

That true but Skyboost does that and has better performance. I had to swtich!

You forgot to take the plastic film off the heat sink.

Not a bad mod there but it's just too dark for me. Like the lighting in that one shot of what looks like Winterhold, the lighting by the doors is just too subdued. It's a shame that you couldn't mod individual sections of every part of the world. I wouldn't mind that.

This one
v7-15-after.jpg

That one isn't even the "after dark" one.

Hmm, the download link for Skyboost seems broken. Is the site down or is there a new version or something?

I just installed the beta nvidia drivers and got a nice 10-15 fps boost just from that. I'd love to see how much I can get it up to with this mod.

There is a "Normal Nights and Caves" folder in the mod.

Here are some comparisons, it's quite a hefty performance hit:

The bloom is a hit or miss, but it's getting somewhere.

Another thing you can do is cut the AOAmount down a couple notches, from 0.8 to 0.6. I found the default setting a little too strong, especially on the trees.

Not bad in some aspects but the bloom in the shot looking into Whiterun is almost hiding detail due to the bloom and other things. The one overlooking Whiterun is better but something about the vanilla look just looks better to me. I've edited my ini to render a little better so maybe that's why.

I'll give it a whirl though. See with my own eyes.

Result - There is a tremendous hit to fps and frankly some of the effects are nice but not worth the hit. I could probably tweaks some thing in color to get some similar effect but the bottom line is that it's made for higher high end PC's. Even then I don't know if I could recommend it. It's definitely not terrible though. And indoors locations run the same. It's the outdoors which took a hit. Like half the frame rate bad.

I do agree with the last post too. Nice. The bloom or whatever is going on with the ENB settings is messing up the clarity though. Textures just aren't as good. But them scenic shots have some great screenshot potential. It just can't be a permanent solution with the fps hit unfortunately.

It's so awesome that you can switch it on/off instantly (shift F12). PC gaming!!!

Really?! Now I may want to keep it for dungeons lol

I don't know. I just deleted it but am looking into something to at least improve colors a little. I really, really like the look of vanilla though. At least with the ini I've crafted for myself.
