The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

You try backing up ini's, delete them and have the game respec and then restoring ini, backup verifying cache on Steam, use the CPU fix, the memory ini tweak?

Trying to get a gauge on what you've done.

i didnt try the ini thing yet so i just did that along with another steam verify and i got out of whiterun.

then i tried going to the quest where it kept crashing but still happens for that

but thanks man, at least i can get on with other things now

Nevermind, user error. Didn't extract the plugin to the correct folder.

Seeing about a 20-30% increase in the "problem" areas of the noted towns. Me rikey. For those curious, I'm running in ultra with View Distance settings decreased a few notches across the board. Specs are as follows:

Q9550 @ 3.2GHz
4GB
GTX 460 1GB

I'd kill for a proper co-op mod. One where we can complete mission objectives together, even if only the host makes the dialogue choices.

Finally tried SkyUI, yes, yes gentlemen, well played. We're nearly there.

Now will someone code my dream mod please?
You hold a shoulder trigger, and you get a radial menu like a clock divided into 12 sectors, each "hour" with your favourites, rotate a left stick to select one thing, right stick to select another, let go of the shoulder and they're selected.

Like the menu in Beyond Good & Evil, a really effective quick-select, that was made nearly 10 years ago and works 1000x times better than Skyrim's favourites system.

Assassin's Creed Revelations has this exact HUD! Works great.

Even on PC, that would be more effective than the favorite system now. What we really need is a true hotkey mod. Something that lets you bind 1-9, alt+1-9, ctrl+1-9, etc without going through favorites.

I'm really impressed with the Nexus mod manager. You can magnet link downloads to it, it give release notes, it lets you know when a new version of a mod is available, and it lets you activate/deactivate with a click.

Soooo much easier now than when I was banging my head about getting some of those FallOut3 mods working.

I see leng. So it's the hole game like that or just the introductory part?

In the case that its the hole game, no possible measures to mitigate this?
Correct, the sounds also too low in my case. However I run Skyrim from PC with a set of speakers with adjustable (manual) volume, therefore I simply turn up the speaker's volume.

Does anyone know if a "hide helmet" mod exists or is in the works? Nothing came up in a search on Curse.

If not, I would love it if someone could get on that.

There is a fix to the low sound. Maybe this should be added to the OP:

1. Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers -> Configure
2. Set to 5.1 Surround -> disable optional speakers -> disable anything under full range speakers -> finish

I can't decide between Better Xbox360 controller and 360 controller remap. Is one better than the other or are they basically they same?

I tried this but it's still broken. Mind you I did this a couple weeks ago.

Definitely the 360 controller remap. Was updated to fix the bugs too.

Damn, the number of mods each day even without the CS is just amazing ..... (well loads of crap .. but still)

I stumbled upon a mod recently that tweaked some of the spells, like the dragonflesh one making it like all other 'flesh' spells, and that looked somewhat balanced, but I can't find it anymore .... D:

this gonna be great I think

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1601

like Project Nevada great, may be even better.

also a great website they got there - http://www.tytanis.com/

seeing how Tytanis's mod was completely broken in terms of game balance (even more than the game itself) I wish everyone good luck on trying to play anything PvP related in what they are planning, it's just bound to be a gigantic mess xD

I guess when PVP is released, everyone will shoot nukes from their fingertips and laser beams straight out of their eyes...

I'd like some help improving my performance. It varies a lot and is frequently 20-30 FPS at the beginning around Riverwood. In-game settings are set to High with FXAA, no MSAA, 16x AF, high radial blur, and I used this guide for INI tweaking.

I'm using the following mods, all from Skyrim Nexus:
Extra Spell Hotkeys
Framerate fix for ATI cards (is this the problem and outdated? The launcher thinks it's using a Geforce 8800 GS.)
Quick Start

Computer specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i3 2100
Gigabyte Radeon 6850 (standard clock speeds)
4GB RAM
1080p monitor

Something happened, and it's killing my performance in this game. I would get a rock solid 40 everywhere, with 60 inside (maxed), but after doing something, now I get 20 everywhere, and my text/hud looks really weird. Looks super jaggy or something.

I updated to the new AMD 12.1 preview drivers, the reason I'm doing so is because its the only drivers I can play Rage with! Rage won't even start on older drivers for some reason. Any possible fix without doing a system restore to roll back?

I've been fighting with my Skyrim installation for the last 2-3 days and the most Ive been able to get is 21FPS outside of towns, with 17-19fps in town. Already tried some of the .ini mods and the SKSE mods, and still no improvement (all of this in Medium Settings @1280x720). I think I have a capable laptop which should at least play at this resolution in High Settings. Also, Im running the latest drivers from nvidia. Is there something else I can do or am I screwed at this point?

My rig:

nVidia GT540M GPU
6GB RAM
Intel i7 2670QM @2.2Ghz CPU

Can I use the 360 controller remap mod with a DS3 via Motioninjoy (emulating a 360 controller)?

So I got Skyrim for Xmas. I have it installed and updated on steam. I also had a ati driver update today. Is it better to use the 11.11c? or am i fine with 11.12? also, this performance mod I have been seeing, which file do I actually download and how do I install?

What can I do to fix this ugly sight outside Solitude? :P

Tuning question for you guys: My card is older (8800GT) so while I can run Skyrim decently I do have to turn down the details.

However, one of the very annoying things is that enemies can spot me (and in the case of archers and casters SHOOT at me) before they are drawn on my screen! What settings can I use to tweak the draw distance just enough that if an archer is in range to shoot me, I can see him?

Add uGridsToLoad=7 to Skyrim.ini under general. Has a big performance impact. Instructions for reversing it are in the op.

Probably wont fix all of it unless you increse it to 9, but then that's more unstable..

Does anyone else have an issue with screen flickering (really bad flickering, not subtle at all) when you look down or up using the mouse or attempt to swim in the water?

I've disabled all mods except realistic water textures with the same results. When I attempt to disable that mod I cannot load my save game.

Here's a list of mods I have installed:

Enhanced distant terrain
Enhanced night sky
Glowing ore veins
4gb Skyrim (haven't updated to 1.3 yet, not sure how that's going to affect my mods)
Vurts flora overhaul
Xenius character enhancement

Win 7
i7 2600k
1.5GB GTX 580 (290.36 beta drivers--going to update these now)
4GB RAM

I've had it before. (back on v1.00 w/ 4GB mod, .ini tweaks and a few re-textures)
Not sure what caused it or what fixed it though.

Are you crashing when you load up after disabling my water mod? If it's just that message that pops up, you're fine clicking yes.

Up the Actor slider on the options. Move it to around 7(try not to have it lower than 4). Hopefully that solves your issue.
