The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

Really?! Now I may want to keep it for dungeons lol

I don't know. I just deleted it but am looking into something to at least improve colors a little. I really, really like the look of vanilla though. At least with the ini I've crafted for myself.

I'm using some FXAA injector posted really early in the thread, with all of it turned off except some very slight color correction tweaks, you could try something like that if color tuning is all you're looking for. It's a very subtle change though, you might be after something more drastic if you like the mod that was just mentioned (I think the last couple of screens posted look horrific =/)

I have Kyaw's guide linked. Will definitely look into it. Did one more comparison. And also, I think I have to rid of the ENB files altogether because my fps is low even with the mod off. Something is having an effect.

After

These 2 shots were taken seconds of each other while switching in real time with the shift-F12 command.

I'm just not liking all that detail being hidden at night and sort of clouded in the day time. It does look amazing in specific circumstances though.

So... I feel I've finally gotten the graphical quality and image appearance of my game up to a level in which I am moderately to rather happy with it now.

It's not yet perfect and I'm sure that there will be some better ENB mods out there that will just push the game over the line into 'epic' graphics level and help it to reach the level of something such as The Witcher 2, but that's a bit of a stretch.

I don't know if it will ever get quite there unless people really start delving into the meshes and the lighting system in great detail, but hey - at least the quality level is close, and damn does it run well on my system at the moment, and boy does it look good too.

I've been picking the best spots to take some shots to give some examples for people, there are a lot of shots, but that's what this thread is all about right? Don't mind so many pics hey :)

This time I uploaded them myself so they won't be all compressed and shit. Hope you like them

Oh hey, by the way guys - here is a Realistic Lighting mod that uses an esp file.

Instead of being a Post Process Injector this gives you the ability to mod just particular areas, like just inside caves, or taverns or other places.

I suggest you try it out! You can get some wonderful effects.

Also, there are a few mods that I just HAVE to recommend to everyone, these are the absolute MUSTS that I think everyone has to have installed.

Edit - As requested I'm going to try and put what I think to be the performance impact of the mods listed here underneath each recommendation. Performance impact will be listed in bold italics like this.

GAMEPLAY
Deadly Dragons
To me, this is like the number 1 must have mod out of all the list that I have here. I don't know if I said that about any graphics mods, but in terms of game play mods, this is the upper echelon. This makes the Dragon's in the game much harder, and each conflict with them is much more difficult. It also introduces a few new dragons into the game (including their own look) and makes you run into dragon's more often. Considering the game is all about dragons... well, to me I love fighting the dragons, and I love it to be a massive hard arse fight to the death every time so you can't go past this ball breakingly awesome mod.

Pluto's Improves Skyrim Experience
You need to click on the link to find out more about this one, basically it makes the game harder - but not just in the way that the regular game goes from easy to normal to hard. If you're like me and are playing on hard already but it's not hard enough, then get this. Enemies use potions, the AI is better, the level scaling is changed, this is like the ultimate 'realism' mod. Trust me, it makes the game HARD, but it's fookin worth it because it makes it FUN, every time you travel from city to city is an adventure in a dangerous land.

Seamless over Shoulder
This makes the third person camera so much better. Plus it makes a 'fake' first person camera option when riding a horse. I'm sure this one is something people will definitely like.

Horse Fast Dismount
Changes the way the game makes you dismount your horse, I found Horse travel a bit irritating because it took so long to get up and get down. This fixes the getting down part. MUST HAVE.

Better Sorting
Renames items in Inventory to help sort them better and make them easier to find, such a simple thing to have done - why Bathesda did you not do it this way you stupid arses.

Leathers Weight Fix
If you're like me and felt that once you had used the tanning rack and changed a pelt into leather and that it should weigh less because you had removed the extra 'fat' that was no longer needed, well now you can change the weight of your leather.

GRAPHICS
Higher Polygon Skyrim
Download this. NOW.
FPS Impact = None: As I said, download it now, this is an absolute must have. You want round rings instead of square rings? You want round apples instead of square apples? Keep an eye on the mod as well because he updates a lot of things and god damn it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE you wouldn't think just upping the poly of some meaningless items in the world would matter but it does SO MUCH.

Xenius Character Enhancement Better Beast Races
Like the human style one but for beasts, if you're playing as a beast race you gotta have it, and even if you're not it's good to have to make sure the beast races look good.
FPS Impact = Small: This increases some texture maps to higher res, if you're worried about performance and you're not playing as a beast race then avoid it - if you are playing as a beast race then definitely grab it.

High Resolution Armours
The BEST - bar none, armour res up so far. All the others make everything over saturated oversharp CRAP, but this one does a good job without going to far. MUST HAVE.
FPS Impact = Small to Medium: This one increases the quality of all the armours in the game, you might think that would have a huge huge impact but you need to think about how many characters you have on screen at once most of the time - it's not very many. The quality improvement is worth the performance in this case because most of the standard armours look like shit IMO

Armour and Weapons Better Reflection and Polish Improvement
This one gives a bit of a performance hit, but damn it's SO SO SO SO important, it makes metal look like metal, it makes it reflect and shine like it's polished when it should. Makes a HUGE improvement to virtually all armors. GET IT.
FPS Impact = Medium: Ad's reflection mapping tot he armours, we all know that reflections are hard on GPU's, damn it looks good but if you're concerned about power then keep it down a bit yep yep, this is one to avoid if you're worried.

Weapon Retexture Project
Keep a very close eye on this one, this guy is doing a slow and steady (but brilliant) job of upgrading the weapons textures. His work is the best of any weapon artwork creator, however he's very slow - I only hope I'm still playing the game by the time he's done.
FPS Impact = Minimal: So few weapons have been upgraded and the weapons are such a small part of the world, even when all of the weapons have been upgraded you would have to put probably 100 swords in the same room and then shout at them to make it matter, so get this one for sure..

High Resolution Shields
This is a bit of a mixed bag. The shields are heaps better than standard, but they're not perfect - a few are a bit sharp and some stick out a bit (namely the banded iron and the round steel), but in my opinion it's far better than the stock. Not perfect but I wouldn't go without it.
FPS Impact = Minimal: Same as above, but I think it's pretty much a required mod because if you're using a shield you'll be spending a large part of the game staring into the back of a mushy disgusting bleck of the back of a shield.

Improved NPC Clothing
Nuff said, get the more dirt version - the standard textures for NPC's are CRAP.
FPS Impact = Minimal: Think of this as the same as the armour mod. If you're using Skyboost it helps a lot, I'd be going with this without a doubt, to me the Vanilla clothes don't even look like clothes.

Believable Hair
Changes the way the hair in the game looks to make it look MUCH more real, a MUST have.
FPS Impact = None: This just changed the normal maps on the hair to be finer and sharper and thinner and look more real, no impact on performance.

Eyebrows Match Hair
Simple mod which makes your character's eyebrows match your hair color.
FPS Impact = None: Same as above, no impact.

Enhanced Blood Textures
It's part of the OP but it's a must have, make sure you get the Blurry Screen Blood as well.
FPS Impact = None

Dragon Retexture Pack
This one isn't for everyone, but it is for me, the screenshots here make it look a little over sharpened, but IMO it's not quite that bad. Makes the dragons look a lot 'harder' than the standard textures did. I think no one should go without this.
FPS Impact = Medium: Increases the look of the dragons by a huge amount, can be a bit demanding on low end systems, if you're stretching your performance thin then stay away, but this is a must have mod so don't skip over it unless you absolutely must

Skyrim Flora Overhaul (Formally Vurts Flora Overhaul)
SO SO SO SO essential, don't even hesitate, if you only get a few mods for the game, this MUST be one of them!
FPS Impact = Small to Medium: This one has the option of choosing a 'lower res' version if you're worried about performance which is good because everyone needs this mod, it's not that much of a performance hog, but it does take a hit, if you're stretching it... I don't know whether to say stay away or not because I think if I could choose only one mod out of the entire list this might just be the one mod I'd choose. You spend most of your time out in the bush and this makes the bush land look so darn good.

Lush Grass
I was skeptical about this at first, I felt 'well the grass and stuff looks pretty good as it is, why does it need to be more lush', boy how wrong I was, this mod is subtle and if you didn't realise it had been put in you wouldn't know but it makes the world feel more real, alive and rugged.
FPS Impact = Medium: Stay away if you're worried about performance especially if you're going with the Flora Overhaul, this one busts out and increases the density of all the grassland and tundra and basically everything on the ground and it's a big FPS hitter

Lush Trees
This is just like the Lush Grass above but for trees - be careful with this one I would recommend this one only for people with powerful systems, but boy is it worth it.
FPS Impact = High: Only for powerful systems.

Better Rocks and Mountains
This mod is the SUPREME mountains and rocks upgrade mod, I'd been waiting for something to upgrade the mountain textures for ages and this one takes the cake, it remains true to the vanilla styling but just looks about 10x better.
FPS Impact = Medium: The textures of the mountains are pretty much always in your view, the benefit is that this mod has the option of reduced size again, so that helps if you're worried about performance or if you're in the mid range. Damn this is a good mod for the rocks but it can be a bit of a hit.

Watery Rocks
Small and simple mod that makes any rocks near or in water look wet. Must have.
FPS Impact = Small: Negligable, but oh so pretty to the rocks in the streams - get it.

Serious HD Landscape Rextexture
I know this one has had some controversy around here, but this bad boy is a good ground mod. The quality is fantastic and I don't care what anyone says. I once installed but then uninstalled it before because it caused crashes and it didn't look right, but it's come a long way since then and I believe it is worth it now.
FPS Impact = Medium: I love this mod, because you can just go into sneak mod, and look straight at the ground and it looks amazing but i'm sure it's got to be a bitch on performance so stay way for the performance minded.

Realistic Water Textures
I believe this is in the OP but it was recently updated and the update made a hell of a difference, make sure you're using the latest version and that you're using this and not Immersive Water.
FPS Impact = Small to Medium: Again this is up there with the Flora Overhaul as one of the ones I'd have difficulty choosing not to include.. but it is an FPS hitter.

Better Rain Drops
Simple and easy mod, small, no performance impact it just improves the rain drop texture and makes them more visible / look better IMO.
FPS Impact = None: Just get it.

High Resolution Books
Get both files, makes the books look heaps better.
FPS Impact = Small: Minimal impact unless you're in an area with hundreds of books, but makes the books look actually high res instead of a blurry mess.

Tobes Highres Texture Pack
This is the first of your clutter upgrades, make sure this goes in first and then everything else goes in on top of this, it has some really good stuff but the rest is better, but it has SO much included that you want it.
FPS Impact = Small: Textures up lots of miscellaneous things there is an impact, again if you're worried consider staying away but damn, these new few clutter mods make such a huge difference to the appearance of the game.

HD Furniture and Barrels
If you're like me and the really low textures for the cupboards and furniture around the world really shits you off, then this is for you. No performance impact from what i understand.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

HD Clutter and Furniture
More things to upgrade that are crappy and low res by standard, this is another must have IMO, it doesn't impact performance but makes things look so much better. Just beware that you might want to consider not using the Enchanting and Alchemy Table's that it provides, personally I don't like the Alchemy Table in this mod, but I like the Enchanting Table.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

HD Barrels and Chests
More minor stuff around the world upgrades, well worth it for minimal performance hit.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

Silly Level of Detail - Potions and Poisons
This one is interesting, I hate the standard potion and poison textures in the game and therefore I needed to upgrade them, however there are quite a few options to choose from! I feel that there are some that look great from each of the categories. Here is what I did. Install Ceramic as the main file, and then pick and choose individual bottles from the other styles that you like, I chose about a dozen from 'fine' and a few from girly and it's a great mix of different bottles. It's good to have different level of 'quality' bottles depending on how good the potion is.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

Realistic Ore Textures
A great little mod for the Ore textures, no performance hit and replaces the old shitty ones that are just SO bad. Good mod, especially if you're a Smith like me and looking at Ore all the time.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

Silly Level of Detail - Wine / Mead Bottles
Same as above but only one option for the Alcohol bottles, definitely worth it.
FPS Impact = Small: Same as above.

Farmhouse and Villages Vanilla Based Textures HD
Absolute must have, basically a HD upgrade to the standard textures in the game, all of the textures look virtually the same but just high res. This is how the PC game should have looked from the beginning had it not been a console port.
FPS Impact = Medium: This one really hits up the non city houses and villages textures, so basically any textures that aren't part of a city and are re-used many times throughout the world are here. It's a pretty incredible mod and helps the appearance of the world very much.

SOUND
Immersive Skyrim Thunder
Just get it and install it, even if you don't think you care, install it, wait for a storm to happen and then uninstall it if you don't like it. There's no way you will go back after this. It also makes some shouts have more of a 'thunder' feel to them too. Great sound mod.

Sound of Nature - Fire
Sound of Nature - Water
Get these mods, they improve the fire and water sound effects in the game significantly, you want them.

I'd love to put pictures with each of these posts, but that'll probably do for now :)

LiquidMetal14

hide your water-based mammals
Good list there. I just got the thunder one earlier today, funny you linking that one. I will put that in the OP. The others are nice too and would have added them but I'm trying to keep it lower on the mods until the CK hits and the thread gets an overhaul. I am gonna try the armor and over the shoulder mods though. Your list pushed me over the top :)

Thanks for making another list too. Some will definitely be trying those.

Damn, that armor set is huge. I'm sure it will be worth it. Can't wait to see it.

Oh and the 2k HD one, I had that one linked but the kinks are still being ironed out. It's definitely one to watch but didn't want to recommend it with some of the issues that are being reported. It's in the up and coming section which I may consolidate in the future.

I have no idea why, but using the Mod Organizer makes my FPS' go down.

I saw an 8-10 fps increase in white run with TESVAL, but once I started using Mod Organizer so I can use SkyUI it drops my FPS' back down.

Not only that, but the FPS' stay low even when I try to use the normal launcher.

Any ideas?

Install Sky UI manually and not with MO. Also, use Skyboost, it easily trumps TESVAL. Try launching with the SKSE launcher too. It still makes it go through Steam so don't worry about stuff like that.

Cool, thanks....I'll try that.

I did launch with SKSE intially which got me the FPS boost, but when I tried to run SKSE through MO, that's when my FPS went down.

I'll report back later my findings. :)

None of those "balance mods" address the underlying broken combat mechanics. Kind of pathetic that almost nobody cares about balance, going by d/ls and endorsements. So yeah, you have "smarter AI" and more enemy spawns and blah blah.. but you can use the same broken crap to kill them. Hooray.

I think I'll just go back to New Vegas if I want to play a WRPG again.

Btw, which are the must-have mods with no or minimal performance issues ?
I am using Skyboost and I had to turn off ambient occlusion because I lost about 15FPS...

What mod or mods do I need to get the best looking night sky? That's all I really want (the texture mods are too much for my 6850 with 1GB memory).

I'm looking at Enhanced Sky, but the modder suggests installing a complimentary mod that darkens nights. What's the best one?

Not using MO worked like a charm, and I got an additional 3-4 fps when I used Skyboost instead of TESVAL...thanks!!

So is it safe to say that I should just install whatever mods I want to use manually then? MO seems to really bog down my computer when I use it to run the game.

You shouldn't need to use any of the mod management tools to start you game. All they handle is the installation/uninstallation of mods, and setting up your load order. So you can do that, then start you game via the skse_loader.exe or whatever.

ColonialRaptor, I love you. Amazing post, man. Even though I check SNexus everyday I still found several awesome mods in that list I'd overlooked. Deadly Dragons in particular is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thanks!

Okay, I'm trying to install the Enhanced Night Sky mod, and I understand I have to extract the "textures" folder into Skyrim/Data, but the Textures folder in my game folder is labeled "Bethesda File Archive." How do I merge the two?

I don't really understand your problem. Make a folder titled "Textures" inside the data folder and place the mod within it. It should work then.

Well, I was watching the install video on the mod's download page, and it seemed like the guy already had a pre-existing Textures folder in his directory. I just assumed it was supposed to be there.

Cool, with Skyboost I get 60fps 90% of the time. Riverwood is almost completely solid and I'm up to 50fps looking down from Dragonsreach.

Tried the postprocess mod, can't decide on a preset I like. Think I'll just use it for FXAA.

Interesting. I had no idea that's how it works. I'm still fairly new to the mod scene. I'll check and see if setting them that way and just running the game via skse_loader.exe will work.

Nah, I'm pretty sure you have to make it yourself because I know you have to add folders such as sound to replace and add new sounds in the game. Oh and I've got a Textures BSA too, I think that's what the game loads as default, so don't worry about it.

Okay, fantastic. Just got the mod working. Simple as drag-and-drop. Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

By the way, I can't believe I've been playing the game for 25 hours without using this mod. Holy shit, the night sky is absolutely gorgeous now!

Two questions:

1) GAF-Astronomers: Which star density setting is more realistic: high or medium?

2) Any mods that make the nights darker? As it is right now, they're a bit too bright, killing the immersion for me during nighttime.

I recently bought a new HDTV a Samsung 46inch smart TV.

I usually play games on my 1080p pc monitor but Ive started to use this big tv so I can lay down on the bed while playing.

But Ive notcied in Skyrim that im getting these faint horizontal lines !
Like if I look at a tree and slowly pan up and down I can see them but it doesnt appear on my PC screen.

Its not screen tearing by the way.

Hey CR, for that Realistic Lighting mod, do you recommend the full ESP or should I consider leaving some of the optional stuff out? (This is the only lighting mod I want to install, and mainly for the darkness at night.)

I installed a bunch of mods, now some textures are playing up! Now to play the elimination game...

EDIT: Well this sucks, I can't work out what's making this happen. I approach Fort Sungrad (as an example) and from a distance the fort is grey, then I take a few steps and bit by bit it gets covered in moss.

I thought this would be the WIP re-defined dungeons, but both uninstalling and deleting that via mod manager hasn't changed anything. I've disabled every other mod that effects textures and it hasn't changed.

Same sort of thing in Windhelm except less widespread, just a texture here and there flickering depending on where I stand.

Any ideas?

EDIT 2: Nevermind, was Adaptive AA in RP. Move right along.

Nexus mod manager uses normal folder structure instead of making custom links to folders in other places. So it does the same as what you would do manually. I quickly removed MO from my hdd. It simply didn't work.

I really can't understand why people want to make the game harder. The combat has little to no skill involved so making it more difficult doesn't increase the skill required much, it just makes it more frustrating.

I don't feel there's any reward in making the game more challenging either.

What kind of TV is it? I had a Samsung DLP HDTV which had something similar due to the bulb being too bright (if I remember correctly - in my case it was more like squares all over the screen). Alternatively it could be interference or the HDMI cable. Try other games/apps on your PC and see if you see them so you can narrow it down. It can be a real pain trying to isolate issues like you're experiencing.

Is there any mods in the works to introduce a New Vegas type "Hardcore" mode?
I'd love to put pictures with each of these posts, but that'll probably do for now :)
Are these all the mods used in your screens Colonial? When all was applied how many frames did you lose and what system do you have?

And how often the game crashes now?

My problem ended up being that once I'd check and uncheck the mods I wanttd in MO, I'd hit the "RUN" button on the program to boot up the game, not knowing that it wasn't necessary.

Now I just check and uncheck what mods I want to use and use the SKSE.exe file to run it and it works just fine. Wish I knew that before I manually installed half of the mods I have.

:p

Will I have an issue once Bethesda updates the game?

Unfortunately not. Almost all Nexus modders and downloaders seem more interested in furthering Skyrim as a power trip sandbox game rather than any sort of balance or challenge.

I don't think that's out of preference, it's hard/impossible to mod most of the game without the Construction Set which has yet to be released.

Go High, it might not be ultra realistic in the sense that you see that many stars when you're looking up at the sky when you're int he middle of the city. But if you've ever gone out to the middle of no where - and I mean like hundreds of kilometres into the middle of the desert in the outback of Australia middle of nowhere and looked at the galactic centre and the 'high' level of stars is realistic.

Here is a real life photo of the night sky from such a location showing the galactic centre in view. If you've never seen such a thing in person... well, I recommend you must do it at least once. It does come up more in a photo due to being long exposure but even still.

Hey CR, for that Realistic Lighting mod, do you recommend the full ESP or should I consider leaving some of the optional stuff out? (This is the only lighting mod I want to install, and mainly for the darkness at night.)

You should definitely consider leaving some stuff out. It makes things whack and too bright outside if you install them all.

I think the only one I use it for is darker caves because I like the caves to be really dark and gloomy when I'm in there so I have to use a torch, but I haven't finished experimenting with it yet, so play around!

ColonialRaptor, I love you. Amazing post, man. Even though I check SNexus everyday I still found several awesome mods in that list I'd overlooked. Deadly Dragons in particular is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thanks!

No worries man! Honestly, that's only the cream of the crop that I picked as well, I literally have over 150 mods installed and I would have listed more but I got bored. I think I'll probably end up putting more up because I really wasn't that thorough. What do you think... more?

Great posts colonialraptor!

Btw, which are the must-have mods with no or minimal performance issues ?
I am using Skyboost and I had to turn off ambient occlusion because I lost about 15FPS...

What's your setup? It's hard to say which ones you should avoid specifically for minimal performance issues, but what I'll do is edit my post and put a bold FPS at the start of the ones that I believe will give a performance hit... how does that sound? The rest are all must have.

Is there any mods in the works to introduce a New Vegas type "Hardcore" mode?

Are these all the mods used in your screens Colonial? When all was applied how many frames did you lose and what system do you have?

And how often the game crashes now?

No crashes ever. I mean it might crash once per day maybe.

Those mods and a LOT more are the ones used in my screens. I don't really know how many frames I lose because I don't lose any... I'm always 60+ but that's the thing, my system can handle so many mods and that's why I'm pumping in so many of them and I will continue to push the boundaries of the game as far as I can possibly go.

I play on my TV at 1920x1080 because it's the type of game that's more enjoyable like that, but on my PC at 2560x1440 there is no noticeable performance difference.

My system is as follows:

i7-3930K @ 4.8Ghz w/ Corsair H100
Asus P9x79 Deluxe
HIS 6990 + XFX 6970 @ 910/1410 Trifire
Kingston Hyper X SATAIII SSD
Corsair AX850 PSU

I think that's all that really matters hey? And before people go and say "god damn you bastard what a system you rich prick!", I'm not right, I'm just stupid. I don't have a job and I just spend all of my money on my computer because I get a lot of enjoyment out of having the best of the best, I'm an enthusiast and overclocker okay (guess I feel a bit guilty sometimes don't wanna seem like ner ner.) Anyway, my system is OVERKILL for pretty much everything. I get 100fps+ on Ultra for BF3 at 2560 and I'm planning on buying 2x XFX 7970's as soon as I can.

If you want, I can do another list that includes pretty much all of my mods (I'll base it from my last list) and try and bunch things together and format them in a particular way, give explanations about what they are and what performance hit they might give?

I for one am one who would suggest heavy modding of the game. It's a Console port, but with the right mods, the game can be made into a spectacular work of art.

With regards to the 'Hardcore Mode', I have a different opinion on that. I don't know how things worked with New Vegas or not but still these are the mods I would suggest as making the game a bit 'harder' and better for sure.

Deadly Traps and Diseases
Makes Traps more deadly, step on a trap and you're dead, also makes being diseased or sick much worse for your condition, I think this is a must have, like if you're really sick you shouldn't just be able to continue adventuring like it was nothing right? Can be a real pain in the arse though if you don't have any Cure on you.

Deadly Dragon's I posted above, everyone must have that mod, it's just so important.

Autoaim Remover
Self Explanatory

No Fast Travel
Remove the ability to warp... think about this one carefully. It's not like you can't remove it later, I like the scenery and I like having to see everything in the world - all the more screenshot opportunity :) The carts still work.

Realistic Running Speed
You'd be surprised how much this affects the game, I actually had to take it out because it made it a bit too hard in places for me with all the other difficulty additions I had put in. The primary concern was that archers were able to get in more shots and were popping me before I could get to them. It's a good mod.

This isn't a hardcore game play mod as such but more of a one that I should be kicking myself in the balls for FORGETTING :O

TYANTIS
MY GOD, how did I forget to put in Tyantis earlier... the most important mod of all, it's over powered (I guess) but only if you use it as so! It just expands the amount of things that you can smith to like... EVERYTHING in the game, it's an absolute ABSOLUTE must have in my opinion. Contains the Weapons of the Third Era, everything. Just get it and you won't be disappointed!!!

MrOogieBoogie PM me or I'll PM you, I can tell you've just hit the modding nail on the head and you're going to dive in head first but I don't want you to get caught with your pants down like I did by doing it manually, ad me to Steam "ColonialRaptor" and I'll talk you through doing it properly because simply dragging and dropping it in is not a rabbit hole you want to go down.

Yes sir, that's right.

Thanks for the settings, I really like them.

If only that mod worked with Crossfire cards... Argh.

Glad you like them. There were some oddities that I couldn't fix though, like the bright water foam and waterfalls (and bright smoke as you see in that screen), I also left depth of field on which should be off as it doesn't really work right atm.

Someone made a better profile here http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4142 that fixes those issues and gives a much better starting point from which to tweak. It does everything through the enb files instead of relying on postprocess injector settings.

I don't think that's out of preference, it's hard/impossible to mod most of the game without the Construction Set which has yet to be released.
While it is harder to do, it's not impossible, and the most downloaded, endorsed, and frequently updated gameplay mods are the power trip/lolawesome ones.

Traps are already deadly on master mode, at least to a mage build. I don't know if you can apply damage resistance to things like battering rams and swinging gates. But it's true that traps are probably the most deadly thing in game, given how the broken mechanics let you kill any living thing easily. Traps tend to be fairly boring and repetitive once you've seen them all, but I suppose you could say the same for most combat situations as well.

No fast travel is a time waster and only ups the difficulty if you can't handle outdoor creatures like bears and the occasional dragon (although those tend to stalk you even if you fast travel).

Realistic running speed? It also slows down your enemies.

Have the mouse issues I recall hearing about during launch been resolved? either officially or through a mod?

before I start this up I'm trying to find the essential mods that don't change the experience other than making the interface more PC specific. from the OP the SkyUI seems good.

and regarding performance fixes, is skyboost in the op the same as: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=456515 ?

I'm pretty sick of my Nvidia drivers resetting while playing the game then I have to reinstall them. Nvidia needs to come out with a non Beta driver. This shit is aggravating.
