Mother of fuck, that Sonic tumblr will keep giving gifs for Sonic threads...for AGES.

And, once again, Sega flat-out ignores the audience that have given Sonic the most exposure and the best sales this gen.

Sega are so incompetent with this IP it's unbelievable.

It's really Nintendo's fault for having such a small file size limit. This episode is going to be I assume even bigger than the first and they had to resort to MIDIs for the music to squeeze episode 1 onto Wiiware as it is.

There should be a PC release. Maybe mods can save the game, if Sega fails again.

Even at the point that they made Sonic 4 Episode 1 the engine was archaic -- just the standard Rush engine (very little background movement, flat textures). I mean this has taken this long almost entirely thanks to making Colors DS at the same time, and then rushing out a brand new 3D engine with similar mechanics for Sonic Generations 3DS.

Sega's been hammering them hard to keep pumping out Sonic content. If that Dimensions rumor has any weight and we're gonna see a Nintendo exclusive Sonic in 2012, another 3DS title will be on the way as well.

Just when I had forgotten the retarded sonic run images someone post one, lmfao. Episode 1 was a nice diversion, I'll play this one too why not. I will not be nearly as vocal during the discussion of this episode though, we all know it will not be anything close to the physics of old. Even if it was the level design and music would suffer. Let's just get that out of the way ahead of time.

Are people really this thirsty for Sonic games?

At best these downloadable games can hope to be a slight nostalgia tickle existing in the shadow of the far superior originals. Worse yet is Generations just satisfied that 'Classic Sonic' itch for people. I just don't really see the point, need, or market hungry for 'another Sonic game'?

Surely that Sonic Dimensions title or whatever the next console one becomes is enough to look forward to. Explore the rest of your IP library ffs, Sega.

I can see "new physics" being tweaks to ep1 so the overall feel is still going to be shitty.

They also say 'new graphic engine' along with 'new physics', so there's a chance the final product will be something completely different in comparison with Episode 1.

This, 'new graphic engine', is maybe the reason for the missing Wii version. I'm sure at later date they will announce Vita and Steam versions.

Actually, I'm quite exited for Episode 2 - the last three Sonic games were great (Colors, Generations, HD port of Sonic CD).

Also, I know, Episode 1 sold more than 1 million copies, but i'm hoping for 10$ price tag this time.

No-one else makes Sonic-style games. Seriously, no-one. I mean, there are fan games/romhacks, but they're all terrible (and often for the exact same reasons as the real games). People have to get their fix somewhere, and Sega's the only dealer in town.

i wish sonic had a real competitor.

The best sonic games ( on mega drive ) appeared when there was a lot of similar games too.
Some competition for sega on that point would force sega to Up their "game" even when i have to admit , generations was pretty good

I own a WP7 (truly now a 7.5 device). It not a top tie hardware wise but the OS is pretty fast (a single core device blows up a dual core Android). It is not garbage graphics wise, but since you have to use C#/XNA and cannot use C++ a simple port is not possible. When you make things specifically for WP7 the graphics show up (like IloMilo, Fable Coin Golf, and even HydroThunder).

Besides, at the time of release of Sonic 4 ep2 we may already have Windows Phone 8 devices (target july/august if I am right), plus 7.5 devices are already faster.
The Adreno 200 is the very definition of crappy, the fact that the UI on WP7 devices is hardware accelerated, is irrelevant.

I'm not sure if you guys are kidding, but current times have been very kind to the 2d platforming genre. From retail release games such as the awesome Rayman Origins with 1080p 60fps amazing art filled graphics, to downloadable efforts such as Ms Splosion Man, Fancy Pants Adventures (look no further for 'Sonic style'), the upcoming Fez and many more.

Sure, they don't feature a blue hedgehog running through loop-de-loops, but after 20 years its okay to broaden ones palate just a touch.

That's like saying COD fans can always play Rage or E.Y.E or something - sure, they're similar in that they're part of the same broad genre, but they're still very different games. Playing Sonic games doesn't preclude anyone from playing other games, and I can't imagine anyone actually plays Sonic games at the exclusion of all others. These games have a very specific approach that I enjoy, and that no-one else can cop, so I keep playing 'em.

Then again, I'm just a Sonic fan and not A Sonic Fan!!1!! so I probably shouldn't speak on behalf of those people. Eugh.

Don't post the Sonic cycle. 'Those people' will just start endlessly posting return volleys of SONIC COLOURS BROKE DA CYCLE image memes and the Sonic Cycle itself becomes a cycle of the exact same thread eventuality in which the only escape from is killing ourselves and loved ones.

The real issue with this game is that post-Sega working with Taxman's Retro Engine, a now proven platform for retro styled throwback downloadable games exists for a true classic Sonic 4 across ALL platforms. By virtue of being an Episode 2, this game won't be that.

Sonic still gets a lot of bad games but the Sonic cycle doesn't seem to work anymore. Really no point to post it here.

I'm out of space on my Wii but I would still buy Episode 2 on it just so I can have them together.

The Sonic Cycle will only be broken when most can agree that they've finally released a game that is even close to as good as the Genesis titles.

Not a game that is 'good enough'. Not a game that gets at least a 70% on Gamerankings or whatever.

It's got to meet the expectations of long-time Sonic fans yearning for another game that can stand alongside the classics.

The problem with the cycle is it refers to a very specfic type of bad Sonic game with a specific hype train that kept happening.
Those dont really happen any more. It doesnt mean there arent bad games, but the concept itself is dated.

Like I dont know why weird stipulations are being tossed on top of it. The cycle as its presented straight up stopped.

Surprised it took that long for someone to post the Sonic Cycle. I guess it really is dying.

New physics engine is nice, but my biggest problem with Episode I was how uninspiring the level design/aesthetics/bosses were. The Homing Attack also felt shoehorned in and tacky (Bubbles' chains in every level, really?). Fix all of that and I might buy it this time. Otherwise, I'll just stick with Generations.

This will never happen.

Because Sonic Team is inept or because Sonic fans are insatiable?

Ah, the eternal question.

I'd say because some Sonic fans are insatiable. I found Generations much more than "good enough," and I'm pretty sure I qualify as a long-time Sonic fan.

Sonic 4 Ep. 1 is nowhere near that level. If it's true that they completely revamped the physics, let's hope they used Classic Sonic from Generations. That seems too good to be true, though.

Sad but true.

I was of the impression Generations was good enough after playing the first 3 levels and a bunch of the challenge levels. There were a few issues I had with the placement of some platforms/enemies in a way that the level design seems to lure you into making a mistake whereas with Genesis era Sonic games that wasn't really the case. If there was any difficult platforming ahead, the level would be designed to slow you down before you approached that area. Also didn't like the fact that you don't get rings back immediately after you get hit. Theres a delay before Sonic can pick things up. But overall it was okay...

And then I played into the second part of the game (I guess the Dreamcast era?) last night and I had a TON of issues with the level design there. Way too many cases where you have to make a jump and land into a trap. And the whole truck part was really stupid and infuriating IMO.

Its not just nostalgia, there are still problems with level design and the people making Sonic games are not nearly as good as the people behind recent Mario games where they are absolutely masterful at level design that doesn't feel cheap. And I'm saying that as someone who has no particular nostalgia for Mario or Nintendo (I have never beaten a Nintendo game ever, first Nintendo system I've ever owned was the Wii).

I'm ready for this! SEGA have been on a roll with Sonic games recently so i'll go into this optimistically.

I seem to be the only person to have loved the shit out of Episode I. And this is coming from someone whose favorite platformer ever is Sonic 2.

I really liked it too untill I played the classic portion of Generations. Episode 1 is unplayable to me now.

I will never forgive Sega for Sonic 4 EP1. Fewer larger atrocities exist in gaming that rape your childhood in front of you. This cheap PR talk and promises does not change anything in the slightest with regards to what I expect.

I believe the only larger atrocity is Sonic 2006
Maybe Bomberman Act Zero

To be fair I think it was a promising sign that they let Taxman (Christian Whitehead) from the Sonic community help them do Sonic CD. If anyone isn't aware, Sonic CD is not just a port but its running on a new engine that Taxman developed originally for his fan games. The physics are slightly different than the original Sonic CD but are close enough that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference (unlike Sonic 4). I wouldn't be surprised if they brought him in to help with Sonic CD. In fact, I bet the main reason why Sonic 4 Ep 2 has been delayed so long is that they wanted to give Taxman's Retro Engine a chance to see how fans reacted to it.

True. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the things Sega has done to try and make me hate what was once my favourite franchise ever.

I hear Generationa is good, and I kind of enjoyed Unleashed's Sonic bits, but man the negative stigma is impossible for me to shake, I don't know how others do it. I don't have that blind hope anymore.

EDIT: @infinity, that's good to hear though, I approve of the attempts to get the community to help them in the areas they are lacking/incapable. But, having not played Sonic CD's port, I can't say that really makes me any more comfortable. Maybe a nod of progressiveness there but it's hard to wash off the stains that have been there for so long for me.

Just saw the video and teaser.

Less talk, more gameplay although I'm sure it will play very similarly to Ep. 1.

Nice 'stache Balough lol

But that did happen in the Mega Drive games! How many times do you play the levels generally? I mean if you're expecting just to play them once and just hold right to win without little challenge then I guess your criticism is valid for you. However, this was never the case for the Mega Drive games and you would always have to invest some time into the levels to be able to avoid enemy placement and traps, and especially so if you want to speed run them.

Episode 1 was pretty enjoyable after I got over that it doesn't control exactly like 1-3&K. I didn't regret buying it, and I'm certainly down for another episode, especially if they fine tune the physics some more.

episode 1 was a decent enough game, but i haven't been able to play it anymore since playing generations.

If I do get episode 2 it'll more than likely be for android.

Android! YES thank you sega... hopefully other game companies will follow suit.

I'm down, Sonic 4 was fun... just needed some physics work. After generations and sonic CD release I expect a lot from this!

Also I have to say, the only thing worse then GAFs whiny sonic community is those furry freaks on deviant art <_<;

Sonic 4 an atrocity? Sonic was never that serious guys... except for sonic 06...
