PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

It's not hard from the start at all, half the point of Tri was that it was designed with a slow difficulty curve to make it easy for players new to the series to get into. The hard part is later on when Deviljo rapes your face!

Much better than the demonic difficulty curve on the older PSP games, the monsters just raped you if you were a beginner.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is gone from the JAPANESE PSN too!

What's the story here?

Sega going fourth party.

Edit:
Portable, Portable 2, and 2 Infinity are all still on the JP PSN store and all my related purchases are on my download list.
Portable and Portable 2 are NOT on the US PSN Store AND not in my downlaod list.

Just put an hour into Uncharted and am really impressed considering the impressions from a few others in this thread. The game controls beautifully. The first fire fight had me a bit off guard but once I adjusted the sensitivity of both the aiming and the motion aiming then it felt just as good as ever. The only thing control wise that feels really weird to me is the fact that you have to press select to get the onscreen buttons up(Journal, Camera etc). The Select/Start button feel really sticky and awkward to press for me(Am I the only one?) so the fact that I have to get out of my comfortable position and press select seems weird to me. Not sure why they wouldn't just make it so you click on the corner to get them up or something.

I'm really surprised with the great presentation and depth of this game. I was expecting a dumbed down experience for the Vita but the fact that they've added all these mysteries with stories attached to each treasure is great! Makes me wonder why UC3 didn't have this? Another small gripe I have is the fact that the text is so god damn pixely and ugly. Is this due to the fact that the game runs in Sub HQ?

I'm in Australia and its working fine for me. It doesn't find location occasionally but it usually does on the second attempt. Surprised to see 10 people playing near me.
nice impressions, with all this uncharted hate and vita doom and gloom, positive posts are welcome :)

I am still doubting about Uncharted being my first game for vita though, as UK prices drop fast enough and having so many good games at launch some will have to wait for me.

Sounds like ND really didn't give themselves enough time for U3.

Sorry, I meant the UMD games not the ones that are available on PSN right now.
Also, could you link me Yoshida's 23 PSP games !?

It was just one of his tweets--he didn't specify which ones.

He probably has a couple more now cause he was tweeting about finally getting a 32GB card and how many games it would take to max it out :lol

So true. The features in the Vita version should have been included in UC3 as well. Looks like they really rush UC3 this time round. While in the other hand Bend Studio definitely have enough time (i think more than enough actually) to develop UC: GA.

Could you test Minna to Issho on a non-JP account?

I thought the title of Toro app on vita was どこでもいっしょ but I was wrong :p
みんなといっしょ doesn't work with a non JP account.

My download list is too long to look through on PSP and PS3, but on MediaGo PSP2 is showing up fine.

It took the DS almost 2 years to turn around, took the PSP almost 3 years, took the PS3 ~3 years, etc. Even Apple took some time to turn iPhone/iPod Touch sales around. The only hit out of the gate was the GBA and PS2. The other handhelds and consoles worked for their numbers in life.

So to what standard are we holding the PSV?

I just tried the Dynasty Warriors Next demo and was surprised to see the sharp graphics on the character model that I'm using. Not to mention the touchscreen controls, there are so many kinds lol. It's a little gimmicky but hey, it works and add to the usual boring hack and slash ;)

Uncharted is really impressive though. To be frank I'm not really THAT impressed in it's graphics. Maybe my expectations are too high or something, but the main point of this game would be the content. I have played for roughly 6 hours or so and i think i still have like 10 over chapters. It's a portable game but it comes with console quality, with all of the added treasures information, puzzles and same gameplay with added touchscreen controls, it's definitely a game that Westerners would like. I guess many Westerners' first Vita game would no doubt be Uncharted.

Oh and when I switch PSN accounts, it looks like only demos work. Applications don't work. Tried the twitter app but it didn't work. I guess it's the same with all of the other apps too. Hope this helps for some of you guys that's wondering whether content can be accessed from other country PSN accounts.

Battery life comparaison from Gamekult (french website) :

3DS :
- SSFIV 3D edition.
- Full brightness.
- Sound volume max.
- Wifi ON.
- 3D OFF.

-> 3H30

PSV :
- Ultimate MVC.
- Full brightness.
- Sound volume max.
- Wifi ON.
- 3G ON.

-> 4H16

Misc :
3DS 3D ON : 2H51, PSP 1000 : 3H, DS Tank : 5H50, DS XL : 7H36, DSi : 8H34.
having both 3g and wifi on is nonsense, usually if connected to wifi , 3g is disabled. If both consoles were just with wifi on but not connected, then 3g should be disabled, as 3d was for 3ds for a more accurate comparison.

I think they were just trying to display how shitty the 3DS battery life is, rather than an apples-to-apples test (Because at this stage, its pretty damn hard to have a test like that)

well it toggles between the 2 if one is not available.

if the PSV is doing better battery life than the 3ds with 3D off.

I'm sure I will be satisfied with the PSV

oh there's no need to compare, every 3ds owner, myself included, do know battery life is.....short :P

just like a smartphone. My point is that 3g is usually more power hungry than wifi, so if vita was not connected to a wifi acces point, that would be worse for its battery life. And if it was connected, there is no point on mentioning 3g on as it is off ant has no impact on battery life.

We should bask in this while we can, because I have the feeling the inevitable 3DS revision will have much better battery life.

well, i'm no expert, but i guess unless they improve a lot cpu/gpu and such battery life should remain the same, or instead use a battery with more capacity and that usually means bigger(so they can also include segond analog too). Maybe 3DS XL instead of 3DS lite¿?

They might improve the power efficiency of the screen.

I just checked—Portable 2 purchased from US PSN is still in my download list. Maybe you just missed it?

The 3DS battery life can be "improved" in these tests by doing like the VITA and capping the screen brightness at 80% when playing games.

I guess there is no way to move PSP games from a UK account on to the Vita at the moment until the store is open when the device is released?

Maybe, but I double checked the lists on Media go. Was kind of shocked tbh.
I'll check it from my PS3 when I get home. I clearly remember seeing the Portable Demo, but that was it.

Yeah, 3DS has a brighter screen than the Vita (as evidenced in earlier comparison side by side shots)

You'd have to put the 3DS at brightness level 3 to make it truly fair (but the Vita would probably still just about come out on top I'd reckon. That's what happens when you have a battery that's about double the size of your competitor!)

Spinning it and spinning it well. :)

Do you mean the Gamekult video comparison? There the Vita screen looks brighter to me.

Are we certain that this is the case in 2D mode? In the recent video the 3DS screen looks dimmer. Has anyone measured the light output of both devices?

Does Monster Hunter Freedom Unite has an online co-op on the PSP !?
And I am guessing it's better than the previous MH games on the PSP, right !?

and when you drop the Vita brightness down to even close to 50% there's not -that- much difference either.

Main take away, no matter what, is Sony produced a vastly technically superior piece of equipment to the 3DS and it's battery life -still- toasts the 3DS. I'd advise against "well, if you do this and this then 3DS lasts..." because we start turning shit off on the Vita and fanboys are going to be in for a whole load of crying when the Vita starts coming back with 6 hour+ play times.

Does vita last longer than psp when playing emulated psp games? And does it allow infraestructure mode for psp games that suport it?
