Played a few matches as Lich today, and I have to ask is there a good counter to him? I haven't played the original Dota in forever, and was admittedly not very good to begin with, but as Lich I was absolutely wrecking. His laning is great, and with the mana regen from sacrifice I was able constantly harass with frost blast. Then when it came down to team fights I would net a few kills going in with my ult (which became even more laughable once I was able to build a scepter), drop shields on my teammates when needed, and frost blast anyone trying to get away. What am I missing here? How do you break this guy?

In the early game he's a wrecking machine. Your job is to deny by either attacking your own creeps or sacrificing them, and harass the opposing team until they want to rip your guts out. I like him becuase he's an arse in the beginning :P

As for counters, I haven't played him enough to figure that out hehe.

Edit: Now that I think about it, only hero that ever really gave me problems was that damn Leshrac (or however you spell it). One of his attacks stuns you and does some insane amount of damage.

*Plays With Purge*

*Loses game*

Hope he makes a Youtube Video of it, I would like to hear his commentary on my play. I saved his friend Chachi's Ass like 6 times in lane. Tide Would slow, him having like 100 HP, I would Serge him, Vacuum Tide and Wind Running, and saved the day. Then top lost far to badly.

I love finding a hero I really enjoy playing but hate the fact that it makes me not try the other ones. I should start using random each time until I get familiar with all of them. I am digging this game quite a bit and the community isn't as shitty as everybody makes it out to be. I'd say it's just as shitty as any other multiplayer game's community.

I don't think the random approach is that good, I think you'll just be stuck playing heroes you will have no idea what you're doing with at all at times.
If you haven't decided what role (or roles) you like to play; why not choose one or two heroes from each role that you want to play and learn and then choose hero depending on how your team pick looks like? Or rotate between the roles and be ready with your pick?
This way you can easily read up on the heroes beforehand.

I'd only recommend randoming if you are experienced at the game. I've been playing dota for years, though it's mostly been in HoN, and randoming a hero is the best way to make an ass of yourself. What if you random a complicated carry? Or Chen? What if you're random forces the team to end up entirely melee? You haven't lost instantly, but you have increased the difficulty. Especially if you are against a team who chose their heroes smartly, with good synergy. You're better off playing at least one hero in each role, doesn't matter which, just ensure you are decent with a melee and ranged carry, an initiator, a ganker, a full support and a nuker. This will allow you to pick the needed role in the team with the hero you are good at. This assumes you're knowledgable with the game of course. But generally I'd steer away from randoming; especially as a new player.

Hot tip for randoming.
If you wanna do it, do it right away. Before your team makes their picks.
Also you need to be able to play every hero pretty much. Or its a big risk.

Don't be the idiot that randoms AM after the rest of the team has already picked 3 melee carries. (Happened to me the other night, fml)

"Hm, I've never played AM before but he's OP so we'll be fine."

Na'Vi's PPY is casting with Toby as far as I understand it. Very cool.

EG vs MiTH seems to still be happening as far as I can see it, they are all in the game.

Yup, they started... then immediately everyone disconnected. Cool.

No.

Hopefully the tournament gets better as it progresses, far too many games have been complete stomps.

Yea, teams have basically seen SC2 blow up and are trying to get into it and sponsoring anyone who have done anything in a tournament. Maelk was saying the exact same thing on Reddit a few weeks back, hopefully as the game (and scene) matures the weaker teams will be weeded out.

I didn't follow DotA but I hope things don't turn out like it (also HoN and LoL have) were you have teams dropping players all the time, disbanding, and being signed to other sponsors.

Edit: Also really dislike teams pulling in players from other teams if they're short, they should have a roster of 6/7 instead.

4 people on my team just randomed ( i randomed first).
In order:
Pudge (me)
Juggernaut
Queen of Pain
Shadowfiend (WHAT WAS HE THINKING)

Batrider last pick.

gg

stand-ins isnt something new in the dota scene.

You see, back in the early days, sponsors were really picky. Now that SC2 exploded, I'm not suprised that sponsors are picking random teams

Must have randomed. I swear you might as well replace that with troll.gif with the character it often picks.
I've only randomed Shadow Fiend twice! I usually get Dark Seer for some reason, I wish they'd fine tune the algorithm to not give you the same hero twice in a row, like look at previous games and decide on that. I once randomed Mirana twice in a row which wasn't very fun.

Furion and AM first picks.

Lolololol.

I furrowed my brow in fustration at those picks.

GEE WIZZ GUYS WE NEVER SEE THESE PICKS DO WE?!

Half the fun of randoming is getting something you weren't expecting! It's not very fun picking, cause I'll pick heroes I know that are good, compared to randoming and getting something that's not top tier.

I'd rather just pick. Then again I'm terrible and I need to learn more than 10 characters. :(

Batrider is interesting though, I look forward to seeing what he can do.

Supposedly Batrider is garbage in Dota2 compared to DotA, wonder if they'll fix him.

I think ill stick to playing support when im queuing with 2 people

playing carry with a team of Russians that refuse to support is just not fun

fuck that
batrider is sick

Batrider is nowhere near as good as he is in Dota1. Not sure what it is, but I was a huge Bat player in the original and something... is off. I've been wanting to test Firefly and Napalm damage for a while now and compare it to his previous self.

Still makes me laugh when I hear Dota2 Batrider say, "Shadow of the bat!" because he's totally a shadow of his former self.

got the beta 2 weeks ago and game is just like I remembered it back in wc3. 2 things I learned is that AI is hacks and botolf sucks just like in l4d
