Next Xbox will use Blu-ray. They want to be the only device in your living room and that has been their end game since the original Xbox. I fully expect the next xbox and ps4 to blow computers out of the water at launch, but then computers will quickly catch up as new consoles are the main thing that pushes devs to do better pc game graphics.

I dont think dual cells were ever concrete. It was a direction they were looking at, but never even made it to the alpha kit.

Power is everything next gen. Unless you can show better graphics than the common tablet, everyone is going to play on their tablets instead. They won't buy any consoles.

unless the theoretically computing power is like tenfold of that which the next xbox will produce the ability to distinguish them from one another will be minimal, even less noticable then this gen.

you can only subdivide a surface so many times before you can no longer notice the polygons. And how many people can really tell the difference between 60-75fps or 4xmsaa and 6xmsaa?

It's a given that Microsoft's next console won't have a number next to it, but I wouldn't like to see Sony take that approach. I think PS4 is just fine.

I think taking a loss is an inevitable fact for modern console tech. If Sony released a console today for a profit on each unit sold, its specs would be almost identical to the PS3.

Yeah, it was really just Cell and the BD drive that cost them dearly at launch.
Microsoft actually benefitted from Cell research at relatively little cost to make the Xenon CPU.
