Wii U Spotted At CES

No. Get a real tablet. And I don't mean "tablet" as in iPad or other such toys, I mean Wacom tablets. The input devices you connect to real computers.

For simple artwork it might scratch his itch, but if he likes drawing I'd definitely recommend a pressure sensitive Wacom.

The guys making Colours 3DS could possibly sell something similar on Wii-U..

People complaining about the look, lol. Looks like a video game console to me.

Gamecube controller might look weird at first, but it melts like butter in your hands. Maybe people should withhold judgement one way, or the other until they play it? I'd rather have it look like a toy than feel like a DS3 in my hands.

Anything that you can zoom into. Like a map, or a view, or anything. Which is kind of the point of the Wii U, isn't it?
Yes, because zooming on touchscreens was impossible until Apple invented the iPhone. You'll basically never use more than your right thumb to touch the screen. And I'm almost 100% certain you only have a single right thumb.

lools like a toy, just like wii did. Yeah in that little thing is a beast processor and beast GPU roll my eyes.

On other side maybe it's fun to play with, definitely not my thing, since Nintendo seems to be taking same direction.

That cant be teh powderful cos it look like teh toy.. derp!

Everybody, shutup and listen!

The Wii U will look different at E3, and any major concerns will have been fixed by then.
The backlight is fine. The OP photo is a bad one.
Nintendo said the CES models are identical to the 2011 E3 models.

Okay?

Cool.

Buttons and sticks.

What about them? They're meant to control the game on the TV, not the touchscreen.

But yes, let's press a ZOOM icon repeatedly instead of pinching and pulling the screen like every single tablet on the market to date.

Yes, because zooming on touchscreens was impossible until Apple invented the iPhone.

It wasn't impossible, but it wasn't nearly as convenient. Kinda like the whole friend code thing, no?

Don't mind the controller but the console does look like a HDD, the horrors! I'm sure it will be re-designed by E3...

Eh, I don't mind the look of the console. It just looks.. unusual. Not bad, just a bit strange for a console. The controller just looks huge and unwieldy to me though, but who knows, it might be comfortable.

I'm certain they tested the upad with sticks before deciding to go with slide pads. I hope

I'm sure they did too. And somebody said, "Fuck it, it's good enough. Look at how cool and svelte the sliders are. We're going with that."

Plus, if they're the same size as the 3DS slider, they can have one production line manufacturing their "sticks." Further savings realized.

People hoping for redesigns

lulz
Nintendo added the speaker for the Wii remote, as well as refined its design to be sleeker overall from its first show. Maybe there's something up their sleeve again that they will want to reveal at a later date.

Using resistive for the 3DS makes sense, but I have to wonder whether costs are currently the prohibiting factor for using a capacitive screen on the WiiU. I hope it's something that can dealt with and not an intentional design decision, cause that would be unfortunate.

They're not the same sticks as the 3DS. From the horse's mouth at E3 (they are upgraded in some fashion).

-slidepads instead of normal analogs
-ackward positioning of ABXY buttons
-resistive touch screen
-xbox HUGE

why, fucking why? Why can't it be more like this:

Why, why, oh why?

Okay?

Cool.

We'll see. But this is a CES thread right now, and right now, that looks like shit.

Okay?

Cool.

I wish more people would read this.

Wait what is Nintendo's reason for doing resistive single-touch?
Cheapest option possible I guess.

I don't know why they are trying something unique with a big screen inside a controller but use outdated touch screen features on it.

Okay?

Cool.

This hasn't even been close to confirmed. "Reunveiling" means nothing.

I dunno it's just bizarre to show the system for the first time since June 2011 and not show any improvements. Is that really a message you want to deliver?

CES is the lighting of the fuse, E3 will be the bomb going off.

Why did they have to include slide pads? if anything I hope that changes more than anything else
If nothing else the Slide Pad could mean that the Controller might be expensive

or they're being cheap by sharing parts with 3DS, lol

Forgive me, but I still don't know why I need a screen - especially of that size - on a controller.
You can play the game without the use of the TV, or by using them both

Nintendo, with Dragon Quest X, is sort of pushing the idea of MMOs with a controller that actually facilitates the genre (on consoles, anyways)

---------------------

I'm actually wondering if it'd be a good idea to switch the positions of the Pad on Buttons on the right side of the controller.

If the Tablet could host 2-player games with a player per side, the schemes would be more familiar

Well that's... I don't know more of an addition than a redesign right? In retrospect, the changes weren't that big imo regarding the Wiimote.

In 4 years most of you are gonna be saying "Man the Wii U's minimalist design is sexy compared to the gaudy PS4 and Xbox 3!" Or something similar to that.

I know I should leave this thread, but...

*sigh* Is pinch-to-zoom alone really enough to justify the extra expense and loss in durability?

I think that's the problem, it looks like a game console with a controller instead of a sleek media box with a even sleeker multimedia tablet.

It would be nice if they give the buttons that clear plastic and the same gradient fade as 3DS on the controller edges, would help it look smaller too. We will see at E3 I guess.

CES isn't a big media circus.
They aren't doing stage demos or anything.
It's strictly hands on for Press that couldn't be at E3 last year.
