Its a box!The console's look?
Not much.
It's a freaking box. I don't get why people want it to like... have lasers shooting out of it or something.
But i agree, the design of the console doesnt really matter that much to me.

Yeah, but looking back at the original one they showed, it looks kinda garish by comparison. The rectangular power button, the middle row buttons, and B trigger. The nunchuck too is much sleeker than at the first reveal.Well that's... I don't know more of an addition than a redesign right? In retrospect, the changes weren't that big imo regarding the Wiimote.
Wiith all the CES goingson, I expect a rename to Smart Wii.
Going by this thread, I would have loved to have seen Gaffers reactions to the N64 pad (although saying that, I assume many people in this thread weren't alive then).
Loved the unveiling and loved it when I got my hands on it. It wasn't backwards.
Do you really think sliders are in any way forward progress like the N64 controller? They suck compared to sticks. And since you're not shoving that thing in your pocket, it's moronic to sacrifice functionality for aesthetics. Especially when the thing looks like crap anyway.
Yeah... no.
- Cheaper
OK
- More precise
You should try an iPhone or any high end android phone or even better try one of those cheap resistive screen tablets
- More reliable
In what sense?
- No real need for multitouch due to overall ergonomics
You may be right, but It could clearly be beneficial to add some cool control concepts in the controller, less options always worse than more options
CES isn't a big media circus.
They aren't doing stage demos or anything.
It's strictly hands on for Press that couldn't be at E3 last year.
This reminds me of the original Wii remote's unveiling thread.
If nothing else, it'll be like a slightly less comfortable normal gamepad with an interface massively better for item management. That alone makes it better for gameplay than the Wii.I'm seriously not buying the whole "It's about the gameplay" thing from Nintendo for the WII U. It better have some good graphics that don't become outdated in 6 months.

-slidepads instead of normal analogs
-ackward positioning of ABXY buttons
-resistive touch screen
-xbox HUGE
why, fucking why? Why can't it be more like this:

Why, why, oh why?
I seem to have been transported back in time to 2005, reading the responses. How strange.
You sure are all bad at spelling "remote" though.

I'm not sure accuracy is more important than comfort / pleasure though, and people definitely prefer the tactile sensation of swiping a finger or tapping as opposed to scrolling with a pen, tapping with a stylus or applying the necessary 'poke' for a resistive screen button press.
Are they bringing the lamp addon back maybe?

It's not even close to as nice to do that with though, at least if the DSs have been anything to base it on.Not saying resistive is a better choice or not than a capacitive touchscreen, but you can do all that too on a resistive touchscreen/Wii U controller/3DS with your finger, except pinch to zoom etc.
He's right though, isn't he? Good luck getting a capacitive stylus that's more accurate than a modern resistive / stylus combo. They exist, they're just not very good.

OK, I guess another advantage for resistive is to discourage you from touching the screen with your fingers making it look disgusting. It was always nice seeing my DS/DSi/3DS screens nice and clean, whereas I have to wipe my phone frequently.
Precision/Accuracy + Cleanliness + Cheaper looks a bit more acceptable now. Nintendo knows how to innovate their controllers, so we probably should not worry.
It's a bit hard to do though, and more often than not I just end up using my finger nail to do it.
The fact that Super Mario Galaxy looks far better than most 360/PS3 games put me squarely in the "Who gives a shit about graphics?" camp.

If it's anything at all like the 3DS' lower screen, that shouldn't be necessary.
It really is. This is probably what GameGAQs looked like in 2005.
You seriously want the WiiU to fall into that PS3 territory where only a handful of developers can get it to really shine? SMG and Zelda always look good, but thats usually it. I'm tired of giving Nintendo a pass on this crap.
Yeah, did something change with the 3DS touchscreen, because it works really well with your finger (not nails), maybe it also depends on the game.

What if the controller's form-factor makes sticks uncomfortable or difficult to use?

A resting thumb is a resting thumb. If the controller ergonomics are comfortable for a slider, they're comfortable for a stick.
Can you really come up with any design where raising your thumb an additional 1/4 inch is going to be a deal breaker for comfort?

I was thinking more of a 3DS type of [retractable] stylus that goes inside the uPad.I think the screen is meant to be touched with your fingers, or do you think it would be confortable having that controller in your hands alongside a giant stylus?
