I'll see how Spurs do at Old Trafford, The Etihad, The Emirates, Stamford Bridge and Anfield before proclaiming them title challengers
True...but then United have to go to The Etihad, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates too...if United are in the race, you'd have to say Spurs are too.

(Of course you may not think United are in the race in which case the above is irrelevant.)

Even so, the way Spurs are playing I would back them to get results at The Emirates and at Stamford Bridge. They play City in 2 weeks, i'm sure they fancy they can get a good result there.

GOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SCHAAARRRRSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET IN YOU FUCKER

Uh oh, on field drama

If Ledley King, Sandro and Scott Parker are back then I'm sure we'll get something against City. Savic will be playing, and I think the Bale, BAE, Walker, Lennon quartet are too strong at the moment. Shame we probably won't have a striker :/ If Harry goes 4-4-2 with Defoe and Pav then tables will be flipped.

We gave them two away goals but at least we have two goals ourselves. The 2nd leg should be interesting. But we need to try Ribas in attack because Bojinov just isn't gelling yet.

Haha it was a Portuguese Cup game between Sporting and Nacional. Your comment however makes me sad for being the only Sporting fan here. Theres gotta be one in all those lurkers out there

I think your youth team is fantastic if that's any consolation. Some stunning players in there.

There's a rumour that Assou-Ekotto has a buy out clause in his contract which Arsenal have met. He's one of the lower earners at the club and he wants to stay, but will go unless he gets a pay rise. Self-proclaimed mercenary so can't blame him. Don't want to hate him, and impossible not to love him... what do I do?

Also just saw our youngsters have been kicking ass in that competition. No losses and one draw which was the only game we didnt score in. We beat liverpool 5-1 and 3-0 :O Can we please give some of these players some first team action?

Domingos just called Nacional's coach out. This should be interesting for the second leg

Saw both of those games. We've got some great young players in our academy, but the gulf in class between Sporting and us was plain as day.

some highlights from the 5-1 game.

Didn't see much of the game. Just Joe Hart's God Tier goalkeeping in the opening 10 minutes.

City sound like they played real bad. Got to batter Wigan on Monday now and get in the swing of things because the two games after that are BIG BIG games.

What's this I'm hearing about a double footed tackle from Glen Johnson that went unpunished?

This...would never happen. The club would just give him the money, they know he is a crucial player, he's in the Modric/Bale/Sandro category where they aren't going to be allowed to go by Levy. If BAE went to Arsenal, I think I'd stop watching football.

Anyway, good performance from Spurs today. Dawson looked assured, VDV was class, BAE was even better. Livermore's ball retention was impressive though he doesn't really do a job defensively. He allowed Everton chances that Sandro and Parker would never permit. Lennon didn't seem to want to run very fast today because of his hamstring, but his goal was nice. Good to see Pienaar and Pav get a few minutes too, hopefully Harry uses the squad players more from now on.

I'm also reading that Johnson's tackle was much worse than Kompany's.

All eyes on the FA now.

EDIT: WTF!!! WTFFFFFFFFFFF!

WHAT A LITTLE BASTARD.

Livermore had a 99% pass completion tonight, but as you said he's not great defensively. He can tackle, just not as well as the other two, but his defensive positioning isn't the best.

Can't punish a player retroactively for an incident if the referee saw it.

And Nani was in no danger of injury. Kompany didn't touch Nani. Johnson catches Lescott there.

And GB, that's the problem with football.

I think it's Kolorov in the background. If that was Rooney he'd be in the refs face making the decision for him.

Nani had to jump to avoid broken shins. You crazy mang!

Maybe the ref called it right there. Less than a minute to go, why send him off?

Just like there was no need to send a man off 10 minutes into the game.

meh, moving on.

Kompany's challenge was perfectly fair. It was far less dangerous than that.

A fair challenge isn't classed as winning the ball without touching the other player. Players get penalised for high boots, two footed tackles, etc regardless of whether they make contact with someone else. Kompany's tackle was dangerous. I would have sent Johnson off for that as well.

Hold on. That was probably equal to Kompany's challenge. You keep calling for referee consistency but how can you damn that challenge and not Kompany's? Fuck me.

Both Kompany's and Johnson's tackles were terrible and both should be sent off.

I'm right because I'm completely impartial. ;)

It's not the same as the Kompany challenge.

Two players coming together is not the same as one sliding in front if another from the same side of the ball.

If anything it's a foul on Johnson as the contact is from a late failed attempt at the ball.

The whole Kompany outrage is unbelievable, when the Jay Spearing kicking the ball against Fulham, was deemed a clear red by most because he left his feet in the followthrough.

Whether you think they're reds or not, debatable.

What IMO is not really debatable is that there is absolutely no need to go in two footed like that. It can be a clean tackle but I just don't know why players do it. Both Johnson and Kompany could have won their tackles sliding in single footed.

It can be so wreckless.

As for the game tonight, that was one of the
most cynical performances by a Liverpool team since Kenny's first stint as manager back in the 80's when we exploited the back pass.

Even Rafa's teams in Europe would attempt to cross the halfway line occasionally.

Can't complain about the result though, would have taken a draw to be honest so a 0-1 win gives us a great chance for second leg.

Bild says that Reus has a release clause in his BVB contract (and that's the only thing they have good sources for somehow). While I don't like those, I think I can live with €35m in 2015. That's a price to pay, even more if that financial fairplay thing actually works (yeah, right lol).

Just watched the Pool/City match on Sky+, a dull game. Why did Liverpool play with 9 behind the balll in the second half? Who did they think was going to do anything, Nasri? Barry? I suppose it got them the result in the end, but I hate that kind of ultra-defensive football. If Liverpool had wanted to they could have had given them a twatting, City were dogshit in all areas today.

Johnson should definitely have been sent off.

In the words of Malcolm X: by any means necessary. Liverpool had a right go at City in the first half and could have been 2-3 goals up by the whistle. Going on the defensive from the 60th minute, whilst being one nil up against the best side in the country, in a two legged tie, away from home, as opposed to hunting for more goals and possibly conceding, is just smart management and common sense really. It aint pretty, but should they care? fuck no.

While at the same time saying Kompany shouldn't have been sent off.

The rule is the rule. If it was 2 footed he has to be sent off I guess, as much as I disagree with it.

Either way, football is becoming a contact-less sport. And I believe that's why we have some real horror tackles which break legs, because players can't commit to challenges they don't really train for it and train to dodge them.

Do you really think the permittance the two footed tackles would lead to less injuries?

:lol

Telegraph reporting we've emerged as the clear favourites to sign Samba. Mail reporting we've put in a £7.5 million bid. Still waiting to see if Cahill goes to Chelsea I reckon. Not sure if I want Samba to be honest. Surely we can find a younger centre half that will be better than him eventually for that amount.
