I JUST found out that the iphone 4 and 4s uses gorilla glass. Why isnt this advertised?

I'm pretty sure every quality phone uses it- iPhones have for quite some time now. Motorola is the only company actually touts Gorilla Glass as a "feature," which is actually quite brilliant because the average consumer will think it's something unique to the new Razr.

"Gorilla Glass" is just a brand name like "Plexiglass". The glass on the iPhone 4/4S is aluminosilicate glass and it's the exact same stuff, but since Corning didn't make it or license the name, they can't call it that. "Gorilla Glass" is aluminosilicate that has been put through what Corning calls a "fusion draw" process to allow ions to permeate it. There's many indications that Lens Technology International, who makes the iPhone 4/4S glass, do the exact same thing. They are known to specialize in coatings and treatments.

I need help with the Gamecenter:

When I start a game only the welcome message is displayed, but no achievements over the course of the game. I tried switching on badges and banners in the notification settings, but nothing (iOS 5/iPhone 4s).

Achievements don't pop up like that. Most games do it themselves via an in-game pop-up.

Even if Apple did use Cornings glass, I doubt they would have advertised it using the Gorilla Glass trademark. Apple just does not do things like that, it makes little business sense for them to do so.

Did you configure the accounts through the mail app? Gmail shouldn't have any issues, regardless of whether you configure it through the default Gmail account wizard or through the Exchange settings (if you want Push). Is your school mail POP3 or IMAP? For my school email, I think I just added the account to my Gmail using the account importer and accessed it that way.

usually if the school uses gmail for google apps, its pretty straightforward to setup. go to mail, contacts, calendars - add account - other - add mail account - type in your first/last name, email address, password, and a description of your choice (school email, etc). then it'll ask you whether its an imap or pop email account - select imap. for the incoming ail server fields, type imap.gmail.com in the host name field, type in your full email address (xyz@yadayada.com) as your username, and then your password. for the outgoing mail server, type in smtp.gmail.com and put in your full email in the username field and then your password. it should automatically work.

Well I got my first iphone ever yesterday. I picked up the black 4s 16GB. I played some Super Brothers on it and went to bed. When I woke up this morning the entire left edge of the screen is unresponsive. I've tried turning it on and off, I've tried resetting it, but nothing is working. Looks like I have to return it. Sigh...

Got the headphones, amp and LOD connector yesterday, but I'll probably be using my Hex case permanently with this set-up:

Jealous @10%

Usage 5 hours 10 minutes
Standby 14 hours, 7 minutes

Mostly texting and light browsing / spotify usage. Granted it's not a big deal because I plug my phone in every night, but I'd imagine there will come a day when it bites me in the ass.

News from the launch of iPhone 4S in China today, which is also the debut of iPhone on China Telecom...

EDIT: Actually, from what I'm reading, China Telecom did not open up iPhone sales today as once expected. We do know that their version of iPhone has been tested and cleared for use, but they are not rolling out today.

HUGE Lines. Masses of organized scalpers:

My friend just got an iPhone 4S with the cheapest data plan and an interesting series of questions came up.

1) If my wife sends her a video through iMessage, that will eat into my friends data plan right?

2) When it does, does it hit the data plan right away or only when she goes to view it? In other words she can wait until she's on WiFi to make sure it doesn't eat into her plan.

3) Since iMessage uses data, does MMS? In other words, would it be beneficial for my wife to just send it to her through her text plan instead of through iMessage?

iMessage uses the Internet, but I'm fairly sure MMS uses its own special protocol that data providers don't meter, depending on your plan.

Got the 4S yesterday, my screen is warmer/yellower looking than my 4. Hopefully it fades and looks cooler over time as some people have reported.

Do you connect the amp to your headphone-out or do you use a line-out from the dock connector?

Guess what LOD stands for ;)

Unless you're not sure exactly what's in that pic. Looks to be LOD -> Fiio amp -> cans. I was thinking of going down that route, but settled for the Fiio E1. Perhaps not quite as good (though there are conflicting reports, haven't tested myself) but far less fiddly.

POW! I'll crawl back into my box then.

My old LOD (now that I know what it means, lol) from my iPod doesn't work with my iPhone, and my mint amp isn't exactly portable either so I'm considering a new LOD + amp to juice my HD-25s a bit more.

Fucking HELL. I used to install all my apps via the iPhone directly but today for some reason I bought an app on iTunes first. Then connected my iPhone and dragged and dropped it over. Result: iTunes deletes ALL my existing apps and activates "Sync Apps" without even giving me a warning about what I'm doing. All my game saves gone, Whatsapp chat logs gone, everything....gone. Just by dragging and dropping.

What the fuck? Why is it still like this?

You never synced your apps to iTunes? I understand questions like this can seem like rubbing salt in the wound but I'm really curious why you never had that setup that way before.

Just like with music, iTunes doesn't support drag-and-drop. You either sync (can be selective by checking certain items) or you don't.

I am surprised it didn't warn you that all current stuff on your phone would be wiped, I thought it at least did that for music.

Hey bros.

I want to give my old 3GS to my father, what is the correct procedure to wipe the phone?
Factory reset? He has to get his own iTunes account, correct?

I have synchronized my settings so they should be kept safe on my PC if I ever decide to go back to using an iPhone, right?

I'm thinking he did sync with iTunes before but just deleted all the apps in the iTunes library or something. Otherwise, it would always say the purchases would need to be transferred or it needs to erase and sync.

Restore from iCloud backup.

But iTunes DOES support drag and drop if you enable it. That's how I always put my music on it. I am not sure anymore what the exact setting is, but it's certainly possible.

Anyway because I always downloaded apps directly on the iPhone I never saw the need to sync apps with iTunes. The thing is that if you go and click "Enable app sync", THEN it will give you a warning message. But I didn't get that when dragging and dropping.

Anyway does iCloud only back up core Apple app data or third party app data too? I was under the impression it was only the former.

Apologies for not explaining the Fiio E1 thoroughly enough, but if you were wondering; it's basically an in-line Fiio low(ish)-powered headphone amp that leeches power from the accessory port on an iDevice. It's extra handy in that the headphone out on it us also a remote with volume control (only of the amp though, it doesn't send any volume up/down control signal), pause/play and prev/next track/scan (that obviously DOES go to the device). I can tell you guaranteed that they're good enough for dual-driver IEMs (my UE700s) but will verify with my HD-25s tomoz.

Wife got me a 4S for my birthday and I am not sure how I feel about the phone. The speed bump is noticeable but mostly unnecessary, camera is where I feel the biggest improvement (which sucks because she got me the 16 gig making it feel cramped), and I have no idea what to use Siri for.

Siri doesn't seem to be able to do simple commands like turning Bluetooth on/off and the text recognition is hit or miss. How is everyone making use of Siri so far? At this point it just feels like a toy.

As was answered earlier, it is indeed LOD -> amp -> M50s. I went with the L9 solely for the purpose of being able to clip my E6 to my Hex case and plug the L9 without having to worry about the bend in the cable.

Been working great so far!

My very old blackberry pearl finally died on Thursday, so I ended up getting an Iphone 4s 32 gig yesterday. This is my first ipod or iphone, so I am still learning the intricacies of iOS. I am loving it so far and getting used to having siri set my alarm quickly (I haven't even checked where the alarm options are in the actual settings) and other random things such as playing albums. I have no complaints with the phone so far.

One question, is anyone using a screen protector for the phone? I noticed a Moshi screen protector at AT&T for $25.00 and almost bit the bullet. Is it worth it? I also plan to get the Moshi iGlaze XT. I am not sure if any local store carries it, so I might place an order tomorrow. I'm paranoid about taking my phone anywhere at the moment which I know is silly.
