After slummin' it with Android for the last month, I'm back in the iPhone camp again. Thank god.

The iPhone 4S is damn nice so far. I ended up trading my Galaxy Nexus for the White version, I'm still not into the colour the proximity sensor and front camera kills the look of the front of the device. Oh well. On the plus side, fingerprints aren't noticeable on the back of the device.

Anyone here that has a White 4 or 4s have any problems with it showing dirt around the home button or the edges? I want to go exchange my Black 4s for a white one, but not if it gets excessively dirty without a case constantly on it.

Not sure about the magnet thing but it should be fine.

It will definitely protect it. Possibly more so as it covers the screen. Plastic ones are tougher (depending on make) but the one you posted has more padding.

I would go with plastic ones as they look way better and are pretty safe.
Alright, cool :D Maybe a plastic cover can fit in there too? Yay for double protection? :)

Apple gave me a new phone, I explained to them my wifi situation, couldn't replicate it. But I explained to them with bandwidth caps I need to be able to use wifi whenever possible and they agreed.

Apple customer service seriously is the best, Amazon is a close second.

it does not get excessively dirty by anyone's standards, however there will be slight and noticeable buildup around the edges and home button.

I strongly recommend the Moshi iGlaze if you just want to protect the back, and add virtually zero extra bulk.

I'll vouch for this too. Mine just came in and after taking off my Elago case and putting the Moshi on, it felt like the phone was completely naked, touch and weight-wise. Awesome case.

This worries me with the white model.

don't be worried about it, the device has much more glaring issues than a little dirt. get the color you want. you'll only have it for two years anyway. might as well enjoy it.

^thatd probably work for the home button. but the ridges, on my device at least, are so tight a toothpick couldn't fit.

Don't know if it's been posted, but http://www.poolga.com has a nice collection of wallpapers for both iPhone and iPad.

Also, fuck you Jtwo for making me all conscious about the dirt build up on the white model. I used to be a happy, careless man.

I'm just saying, man. people covet these devices like it's nobodys business and it makes me crazy.

Is there any chance in hell that Apple will ever release a 120GB iPod Touch? The day that happens I probably won't even need an iPhone.

Yeah, I have weird connection issues like that all the time. I was at a busstop today and it just wouldn't load a webpage. I turned the radios on and off and nothing, so I had to reboot it. I think I'm still gonna make that exchange visit at some point before the year is over. The apple store is so busy though.

it always feels weird when you make a phonecall, the whole phonecall experience really seems antiquated.

re:coveting
I'm just being an asshole. Of course you should take care of your phone. I was just poking fun at the idea of a little dust actually driving someone crazy. Or triggering that deep stomach-sick feeling of "oh no its not like new." We've all felt that. And it sucks. I just think that feeling should be directed more towards the actual problems of the phone instead of little cosmetic blemishes.

this website is depressing.

apparently a bunch of artists made wallpapers for the iPhone, yet they forgot about the clock and the unlock slider and now 90% of everything on there looks like ass when you actually use it.

I agree many aren't tailored for the UI but many are pretty cool. It's supposed to be more artsy and stuff, and I like that they supply images for both the lock and home screen.

Is it normal that my 4s can only get to 95% when it's turned on, screen off, and plugged into the wall?

A article mentions this and says to let it drop to 0 and back up to 100 once a month. a Neogaf user said to do that for good battery health.

I think I already did that this week. I was doing heavy gaming.

Hints of Quad-Core support in iOS 5.1 beta

It almost feels like that much power is completely overkill for the iPad, but I'm sure the gaming and heavy lifting apps will gladly make use of it.

Wonder if Apple themselves has any planned application to leverage all of that or if they're just staying competitive in the arms race.

Quick question. My wife and I are looking to upgrade to the Iphone 4S from our 3GS. I saw where gamestop now will buy iphones but then I was looking and found something about AT&T stores buying them back as well.

Here is a quote I found on a site but really can't find much at all about it:

"My brother went to the AT&T store today, traded in his iPhone 3GS – and get this – they gave him $170 credit towards his upgrade to the new iPhone 4S. He only paid $30 for the new iPhone, thanks to the ridiculous trade-in value… Notice that’s the 3GS too. He paid $199 for it over two years ago – and just got $170 for it. Which means an iPhone 4 will probably be worth even more when you trade it in… Insane."

Anyone know if this is true?

Anyone got any first hand impressions of the official Apple bumper?

It's a decent case, but pretty expensive for what it offers. It's a plastic band around the outside of your phone with some rubbery edges that wrap around the front/back of the phone so you can lay it on a table without worrying about scratching and whatnot.

I think it looks good and is functional, but is probably more money than it should be.

Makes the phone hard to pull out of your pocket, but I suspect this would be all "bumper" style cases.

Yep. I got a 97% once. Drained and recharge fixed it.

Are there limits on that tradein? My mom just got a free 3GS. She could theoretically go and trade it in and get a 4S for $30 now?

She could only get it for $30 ($199 really) if she signed a new contract for that subsidized price, so no, it wouldn't work if she 'just' got her 3GS.

I'm sure the 3GS is still a big step over what she had before though.

After 2 replacement phones I still have the same static noise. I wonder if it's specific to certain models (I have the white 32GB), or if I'm just too sensitive to these things.

I'm waiting for a third replacement but if that one has the same noise I'll try to cancel the purchase.

I always just ask perverted stuff. Haven't found a proper use. Don't want say the things I need to type in public.

I use it almost exclusively in my car, where it's useful to both read and send text messages. That's pretty much it other than messing around,

Siri is hit and miss.

I use it to set reminders, alarms, appointments and timers. I also use it for simple messages when no one is around. When it works it's brilliant. I just wish it worked 100% of the time.

Quick Q. Can you use siri within other apps that invoke the keyboard? For example, can you type a word document or forum post with siri? My dad asked me and I had no idea. Google search gave me nothing. Thanks.

Anything that uses keyboard entry, you can use the voice dictation feature to enter text, there's a microphone symbol next to the numbers / symbols changer.

Coming from a Blackberry that didn't even have 3G, I'm loving my new iPhone 4. It's my first real smart phone, and I feel so empowered by it all. It does everything I could ever need, and it does it perfectly. I never understand why people are so quick to brand iPhones expensive androids too, iOS is so integral to the experience that just looking at the hardware alone is selling the thing short.

Going to make a trip to the Apple Store tomorrow to buy a bumper. Want to preserve some modicum of this things beauty, whilst protecting it from scratches and drops, even if it might scratch the metal somewhat.

Yeah, the old Siri app worked better from what I remember. Apple must be tweaking things on the back-end quite frequently hence the beta disclaimer.
