So it was just on ESPN Tom Brady said he will play the best game of his career in this Super Bowl on a radio show. I am a Giants fan and don't doubt Brady will play great and wants some redemption, but he has had some amazing games already so far so we will see.

This explains all:

So he thinks he's going to throw 7 tds?

I can't seriously listen to anyone saying that the Niners gave the game away on STs and that Kyle Williams cost themselves a trip to the SB. Here's the tale of the tape for me on this game:

  • 1/13 on third down
  • All of 1 completion to WRs all game
  • 12/26 196 passing yards for Smith but 101 yards came on 2 receptions by Davis (see below)
  • Two touchdowns on busted coverages to Davis
.

That was a great post, Wellie, especially the Eli part. Eli took a pounding that would have had every non-raping QB cowering in fear. He was amazing.

But SF sucked on offense all year. Alex Smith is Tebow. Their great special teams (save Williams) had you facing a long field almost every drive. Their defense was dominant against a very good offense. They won those types of games this year.

It came down to the old cliche that more games are lost than won. The 49ers made the plays to lose the game. Blew two very easy INTs. The first muff was undoubtedly an unforced error. Second fumble was a good play by the Giants but also, Williams was careless with the ball.

As a neutral observer I do agree that the 49ers lost that game. Now I'm not saying that they were the better team and choked it away. SF never made the plays to win it. But neither did the Giants. It was two even teams, and SF made the mistakes that cost them the win.

He can't mean numbers-wise, right? He won't even begin to touch his stats from that Broncos game or the first game of the season against my Dolphins. And those are just two games from this year...

I just thought it was strange when you threw out this:

as if the game wasn't tied at the end of regulation, and as if those two turnovers on punt returns weren't huge factors in the outcome of that game.

So somehow you agree with me but still are saying that you disagree with me. Again, where did i say the giants dominate. Please.

Saying that the fact giants had no turnovers was the biggest difference in the game some how means that giants dominated in everything else?

9ers win when they cause turnovers. Every game they won this year they forced a turnover. They had opportunity where eli put ball in DB's hand but did not capitalize. When they win they do. And yesterday they didn't.

Again, please show me where I said Giants Dominated. I beg you .. Please.

You have to love Torrey Smith going forward though. The man has produced his entire career. He was great at Maryland and is a big reason why their Qb dropped off so much this past year.

As a terp alum and a wizards fan as well this hasn't been a good year for me sports wise. The ravens were all I had. I'm tired of there's always next year.

You never explicitly stated that the Giants dominated the game (obviously), it was just something I inferred (perhaps wrongly) after I read your post about the game. I just thought you were trivializing the key turnovers that the 49ers had on special teams and focusing purely on the fact that the Giants didn't turn the ball over, as if the 49ers had no chance of winning that game because of the turnovers they failed to create.

Poor Dolphins. Give a guy the head coaching job and everyone still knows him as the Packers offensive coordinator.
I really hope it works out, it's been too long since the Dolphins had a coach worth keeping (or a QB).

Steelers need to start knocking these drafts out the park, our team age is rising so fast. Crazy to thing in 2 months Ben will be 30. Speaking of him, I hope we transition good instead trying out a bazillion shitty qbs over 20 years before finding another good one.

The game was 9ers to win. It was played out just like the 9ers wanted to on defense. But, the defense couldnt make the plays that they usually do when they win (cause turnovers). Helping the offense like Giants offense got help with turnovers.

Usually, its the 9ers who create turnovers and set up the short field for offense. But in this game they had the opportunity but missed it. To me that missed opportunity cost them the game. Not taking away the turnovers created by Giants. Obviously they were big also.

Cool, we're basically in agreement.

Trade Woodley and Wallace for Hoyer or Mallet.

In 02, Ole Miss had a terrible OL and no running game and Eli regularly took beatings like that while throwing 30-40 passes a game. I kept expecting to hear Joe Buck say, "and Eli Manning is still down" after a pass play. That pass rush was vicious.

I guess for women it's a little harder to aim...but still. The best place to do it. Besides the pool.

So awesome. First world problems.

Huh what? We handed Just Winz a game, that's about all the handing that was done between the Eagles and Giants. Thanks for sucking complete dick this season and getting the fuck out of our way, I guess. We beat the #1 seed the #2 seed, and everyone's trendy super bowl pick at the beginning of the season. Thanks for not living up to Just Winz's prediction of a dream team, is that what has you salty? 15 other teams in the NFC handed us the opportunity too. I'd like to thank each one of them as well.

Face it, Vick and co had one extraordinary year and regressed to their mean. Building an all-star squad only works in the MLB (Thank you based-Yankees).

No you misunderstand what I was getting at. Giants finished 9-7 and won the division. Eagles finished 8-8.

The Eagles gave up 5 fourth quarter leads. Not all of them were insurmountable leads but still...that is 5 fourth quarter leads!

I am pretty confident that had the Eagles hired a competent DC, instead of naming their oline coach the DC or at least addressed the terrible LBs sqaud that one of those 5 leads would have been held onto. The Eagles win the division at 9-7. One more win.

Reid's boneheaded all time stupid decision to name his buddy DC cost the Eagles the season obviously, but all they needed was one more win.

1 more win and they tie with the Giants and play in the playoffs. I don't think the Eagles would have beaten the Packers or the 49ers but in my head (and I am sticking to it!) Reid's decision to promote Juan Castillo from oline coach to defensive coordinator doomed the season.

Yeah Vick had a letdown season. As did DJAX. The whole team did. But the offense still produced. The real problem was the D. They got great talent through FA but it wasn't even about amassing an all star team. The Eagles defensive drafts have been downright horrendous since 2005. They had so many weaknesses and holes all over the D that they had to go out in FA and fill them. The 2011 draft again failed to produce any impact on D.

The D got tons of sacks thanks to the wide9 but that left gaping running holes which how Reid didn't see coming is beyond me. To counter the gaping holes, Reid made his already laughable LB corp even worse by letting veterans Ernie Sims and Stewart Bradely walk and promoting 2 seventh round picks and Casey Mathews into the starting lineup.

I still say the Eagles picked up the right players (minus Steve Smith and Vince Young) on D through FA. The problem is you can't handicap your great talent with dog shit coaching. you can't handicap the scheme by ignoring LBs and Safeties completely.

For all these reasons and more (Reid's in game management) I think the Eagles handed the Giants this opportunity (notice I say opportunity meaning the playoffs...not the actual wins cause the Giants earned their right to be in the SB). At the beginning of the season I knew Giants would finish anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6. Second best in the NFC East. I just thought Eagles would finish 11-5 or better.

I've been at work for three fucking hours, and if one more person who doesn't know shit about football comes in here to tell me "I'm sorry", I'm going to throw my phone at them.
