Really? He makes it seem like people don't bother harassing and just focus on denying which isn't true at all.

Right. In higher skilled games, harassing and denying work hand in hand. One popular method in preventing the opponent from last hitting a creep can be done through harassing, which will then give you the chance to deny it.

That article from the IGN guy is complete garbage. It's obvious that he's a league player with only a rudimentary understanding of dota, and that makes many of his statements just plain wrong.

Two easy examples: at the beginning he generalizes that LoL and dota follow the same game progression from laning to ganking to pushing, which is entirely wrong. Second, he calls Aghanim's Scepter an example of a necessary item. While I don't disagree that certain items are needed on certain heroes, ags is never one of them, and this screams lack of knowledge to me.

Fun games today, first one 4 mid heroes and two of them are complete garbage, 2nd game we've got it won by miles but they decide to just sit back and farm for 30 mins against 4 carries and we lose. Hopefully they fix the matchmaking soon, sick of playing with shit players.

Some Gems

IGN Editorial said:
But not only does the person getting denied not get anything, the denier's only reward is the act itself
IGN Editorial said:
The jungle, the area between lanes populated by neutral monsters, is somewhat randomized in Dota 2 (the enemies that spawn at each location are inconsistent from match to match), making leveling in it prohibitively difficult for most heroes until later in the game
IGN Editorial said:
That said, Dota 2 also suffers from the occasional must-have item, as in Aghanim's Scepter, which specifically modifies the ultimate abilities of many heroes.
Wish he actually listed a hero where this is the case.
Ign Editorial said:
But its stoic loyalty to the original mechanics is going to be a barrier to the players who have been spoilt by LoL's comparative leniency.
Truth.

I kind of feel like the arguments he made in that article all equated to, DOTA is too hard for me, and I don't feel like learning, so I'm going to play LoL instead.
I am focusing on jungling, though.
Why?

Some weird glitches I've had the past two days (maybe six games?) If I grabbed a haste rune, an invis rune would immediately appear.

I also got rewarded a kill when the tower landed the last four hits (I had already died, as Tinker lol).

Few games where an AM would die after blinking (unless I've been missing the memo on Purge doing poison damage)

Late reply by me, but I'll explain anyways.

Rune spawns every 2 minutes, so that means 0:00, 2:00, 4:00 and so on. But it wont spawn a new one if it's not picked up. But if you pick up a rune at maybe 3:58, a new rune will spawn at 4:00. This is probably what you did and if you would have been there few seconds later and picked it up at 4:02, the next would spawn at 6:00. So it's possible to get double runes, but the next rune might as well spawn on the other rune spawn.

You will get the kill from kills by towers/creeps if you were the only one to assist it on the kill. So if you shoot AM, he dives and just chases you until he dies of tower, you will get the full kill.

The last one I guess that AM just died directly after the blink? That your attack just hit him in the end of the blink animation so the blink got through, but he still took the damage. This can happen when you TP home, that you take a last hit at the end of your TP and the corpse ends up in the base.

just had my first "even" game :o, that was pretty fun...

the kills were even and their ursa got fed and happy and started steamrolling our team, then our bounty hunter and me SK got each a divine rapier :D first time I bought it...

I can see how "just" one of them can turn the tide of the game. Armlet + divine rapier + vampiric aura = :D

The IGN article is complete nonsense for the single reason that Dota's complexities doesn't need to be comprehended and used to 100% effectiveness in order for the game to be enjoyable. Dota isn't a more "difficult" game, it just has a much higher ceiling for mastery.

It really is just a matter of "I like LoL because Dota's harder."

I can't be the only one annoyed to see that "10 year rule set" chestnut surfacing time and again, it's as if the utterers don't know or don't care to know the state of dota's balance over the years. Far from being an archaic and unchanging relic, it has steadily evolved and culled itself into more refined equilibrium. I'm just baffled, this sort of thing is repeated even by professional designers, people who should know better.

Then again, their association with the likes of S2 and Riot might make all the difference.

Agreed, I also hate his argument about dying in Dota 2 vs dying in LoL. He acts like it's supposed to be just nothing if you die, but you are supposed to be punished for dying, that's what makes it all the more interesting when that extremely early first blood happens.

Other than that sk/next match, anyone see any good games lately outside of the defense and TPL which im caught up on? Either close matches or matches with good play on unpopular heroes are what I like to see.

Say that to Swag and his builds, every game I have as Venomancer leads to me building my sole core item of the build ; the Scepter!

Yo Swag just pro just said you lack knowledge! :O

kidding of course

Yo! Those builds are just what I normally build on the hero, but some games call for Veno to build Pipe, so I adjust, I just hated the way the item layout was for the Valve provided list, was so redundant ( Having Magic Wand, Magic Stick, and Branches on there for example ). Also usually, lots of times with support Veno you may not farm enough to afford more then Agha, so it's just what I try to build towards!
