If Peyton goes to Baltimore or SF it would be the best thing to happen to flacco or smiths careers and it woul be in their best interests to will fully accept the backup role under him and take a pay cut.
I agree though I think we'd agree that both options aren't mutually exclusive. I think the Niners offense could have been more aggressive against our defense at times without having Alex throw it up 40 times.FrenchMovieTheme said:would we have been 13-3 if alex threw the ball 40 times a game and just let it loose? i don't know, but considering the season we had this year i'll go with what was working
the problem with listing 10 QB's better this season is that people won't be able to differentiate "this season" from "career". so if i say "was alex smith better than phillip rivers?" you will say "wtf no!" because of rivers past and alex's past. but was alex better than rivers this sesaon? yep.
doesn't matter though. alex is a good fit for our offense and i expect him to improve with a full off-season and maybe we pick up a guy like dwayne bowe or another WR. alex had weapons but come on, name me a QB that's going to put up 4k+ yards and 30+ td's with these wr's:
1. Michael Crabtree
2. Kyle Williams
3. Ted Ginn
4. Brett Swain
5. Joe Hastings
i don't want to make excuses for him because lots of QB's have to deal with lots of different things. my point is i don't have to make excuses for him. the guy went 13-3, had a grand total of 7 turnovers all year (INT's and lost fumbles combined), had a 90 QB rating and had 6 4th quarter comeback wins. give him some credit
There are always a shitload of great receivers in every draft, but you have to be able to spot them and more importantly coach them up.Are there any other good WR prospects for the first round the Niners could pick? We're 30th so they'd have to fall a bit.
It'd be great if one of them was also a returner.
It's way harder to find elite prospects on D out of the 1st-2nd round. Damn near impossible.See the Steelers for an example of what I am talking about. The only receiver we took in the last 5 years in the first round was Holmes (who we can agree worked out). Everyone else was in the 3rd round or lower. Now we just need to use that same magic and start drafting some blue chippers on defense as well.
Guys got passion.
Would have loved him on the Pats in those few years where we had no name LB's.
I'm good.
But the Pats D was not.
Ray Lewis would not have changed that.
That's a good one. =D

Rather a Pierre Woods or Gary Guyton in there?
Yes.
Go PATS!!! lol
Quick question, does Alshon Jeffrey like taco bell as much as Josh Freeman? Cause they both fat fuckers :me
Even more so. He could drop to the second round after beginning the season as the expected #1 WR off the board. His 40 time could be in the 4.6 region. He has good hands but seperation is going to be an issue.

I think the only bust we had was Sweed, and I can't remember what round he was taken. I want to say 3rd or 4th, but whatever the pick was it was wasted.
Perry Fewell breaks down how to build an 8 man box with Brian Billick. Discusses the Giants four man front and the different techniques they play along with the difference between the way he implements a SAM and WILL linebacker. Good, informative stuff.

Swag.Man, that really makes you appreciate the thought that goes into various schemes
Also, I wonder what exactly changed in the latter part of the season and the familiar playoff run the Giants are pulling off? A lot of times in the regular season the D just looked deflated and the secondary was straight awful at times. But it seems when pressure is applied the whole group rises up to the challenge. I guess I answered my own question but I wonder of Coughlin and Fewell tinkered with anything but that still begs the question of what it is that was done that wasn't working in the mid to latter part of the season.
Swag.
Coughlin and Fewell won't admit it, but he absolutely did to an extent. All of the players will tell you they they cut the playbook down (some already have in interviews). Took out some of the more exotic coverages that could have been run had we had the personnel but in dealing with all of the injuries, it was necessary. I wish I had game tape to look at.BigAT said:Beyond that though, there has been a lot of talk about Fewell simplifying the defense towards the end of the season.
He's also reduced the use of the three man rush. It's still there but there was a time when every damn 3rd and long would lead to a conversion because of a three man rush combined with the corners playing 10 yards off. The improvement in 3rd downs has been one of the key improvements on the defensive side of the ball in the playoffs.Talon- said:I think Fewell stopped doing that.

NFL now has announced its clubs have agreed to a new contract with Roger Goodell that extends his term as commissioner through 2018 season.
Are more people watching the NHL All Star game than before?I was wondering, would more people watch the Pro Bowl if the game was more like the NHL All Star game has been in the past two years? I know I'd be interested to watch.

No motion or shifting by the offense
Offense must have a tight end in all formations
Offense cant have 3 receivers on a side
Intentional grounding is legal
Defense must run a 4-3 at all times
No press coverage except inside the 5 yard line
No blitz
Not allowed to rush a Punt, PAT or FG attempt
Peter King's podcast. That's really the only noteworthy part of the whole thing, though he likes the Iowa OT over Kalil
If there's any guy who people are getting excited about, it's Weeden. But he's actually a week older than Rodgers. I wonder where he'll be drafted. I'm not even sure that's a concern. Not like he'll decline while under the rookie contract.
Theres a reason Eli and [Giants offensive coordinator Kevin] Gilbride have been together for so long, because Gilbride has called good plays and Eli has played well. Me and Tom Moore earned the right to stay together. Its a compliment to Eli and Gilbride. If you call good plays and its working, they shouldnt want to fire you, Manning said.
Its not the kind of environment you like to be in. It was fun to get out of town, Manning said.
I think more people would watch if it played out like an actual game instead of this:
Man, Pey Pey going scorched earth on these interviews:
The Colts, of course, fired Moore.
Speaking of being at the Colts' facility, etc:

Yikes.
I thought Moore retired. Why was he fired?
