Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

They are how much you have added to that stat, be it via items, spellls, buffs, or whatever. For instance, with Invoker, if you have 3 Quas orbs, that's +1 for each to Strength. If you have 3 Quas orbs and an Iron Branch, then that's +4 for strength, +1 for agility, and +1 for intelligence.
Not sure we're talking about the same things, I'm talking about how Strength will be something like 22 + 1.8 and Agility will be 17 + 0.75 or something

Edit: Is that the amount by which that particular stat increases whenever a level is gained?

That's the spirit!

Just played a hour long bot game and got wrecked. :lol Blink Dagger Tidehunter bot op.
The stun isn't even that long but the damage is pretty reasonable and it has pretty much always turned a teamfight around in our favour when I use it. Probably because it confuses/makes the other team panic.

I never was able to pull of Sand King epicenter + blink in WC3 dota though, so I probably just put some practice into SK now.

In other news, Chronosphere sucks when you have a majority melee team. Or if you are VS, because your range is JUST EXACTLY the radius of Chrono.

So funny to see so many people salty at even playing IH, like I said most of the problems are people not communicating at all. If you're new to the game let everyone know in the lobby, ask who you should play, play passively, and focus on not dying.

Also Lion is a decent hero for new players, not sure why someone is saying otherwise.

Yes, I definitely remember a few IH games where the scoreboard said we were about even but we had basically no coordination (my fault as well as 4 others) so there never really were any proper team fights, just a string of "they killed two of us, ran off, we chased their weak links down and killed them, lost one in the process" until they just farmed everything they needed and stomped us.

This applies for pub games too, but you're more likely to have someone on your team insult you rather than just chat silence.

Nice to see some new faces in here. I can't believe I haven't played with any GAFers yet. I only every queue up with my friends. I've had this game well before the first wave of invites came out too.

Beastmaster is a lot of fun. I went early AC on him and man, he hits fast. Gotta try a necro book on him soon.

Yeah with the necrobook buff its definitely worth getting now. Even tho competitive players tend to not get necro and get vanguard instead. Just for fun I try to mass as many attack speed aura items as I can for beastmaster lol. Ac, necro, drum + beastmasters aura makes you and your allies attack like crazy haha.

Just got my invite today from Valve. I'm in Qatar for the next 3.5 months, does anyone have any experience playing in the Middle East? I don't expect i'll be able to play that well if i'm connecting to US servers. Time to read up on a good noob class too. I only have limited experience with Dota all stars maybe 2 years ago.

Don't ever play GAF Inhouses they are the worst. Random pubbies are actually nicer.
Disagree. Not sure who you are in game but I really don't think the two experiences are comparable.

Just follow what Ikuu says; let people know you're new and you'll be okay.

Got my invite yesterday as well.

I'm completely new to MOBA games. I read up and watched a few Youtube vids to get an idea on how to play. I played two games so far.

As soon as I joined I said "Hey guys, I'm completely new. If you guys give me some direction I'll happily follow orders." People were cool with it and occasionally offered advice. I did my best to stay alive, and nobody bitched at me (much) :).

I think if you're up front about your abilities people will cut you some slack.

My friends who were new to DoTA 2 when they started, started yelling back at ragers via the voice chat, and that has been working ever since. Shit talkers don't have much to say when you shit talk back, we've found.

So there's always that way to handle pests. :P

You know what works even better?

Mute.

Yep, pretty much. Also don't be afraid to use the commend feature after games!

well, im another HoN regular who just got a valve invite. it must be REALLY open now because i have never even bought a game on steam before so i cant imagine why they would have bothered to give someone like me access other than to just test out how many they can have online at once. looking forward to giving this a shot this weekend and finally seeing some of the GAF peeps that moved over!

Or possibly play against bots enough to get a full comprehension of the game mechanics before playing multi. One newbie feeder can lose the whole game for a team so it doesn't surprise me at some of the rage. Also, be sure to let your teammates you are new and learning. You will be surprised how much better received that is then to not say anything and suck it up all game. Especially since they might be more apt to give you pointers and advice instead of just raging and assuming you are just brain dead.

So I'll be playing the beta for the first time within the next few days. Can anyone recommend some characters to start with? I don't have a lot of experience with MOBA games. I played DOTA and LoL a few times, but not extensively.

Yeah, that's the hero's stat growth. As you said, it's how much each stat grows when you gain a level.

Funny this also happened to me when I played ES. Is it cause of the "carry should get all kills" mentality?
Could just be pubs being pubs :lol. I mean he saved the other player's life.

Played a game where we stopped a level 1 SK/Ursa Rosh (high five on that call gdec) and then SK got mad and BM'd all game. Kept calling us out for a 5vs5 scrim because he was so sure that we were a 5 man premade team loll

mousesports??

When going against sand king use some dust or a sentry ward and he won't be able to turtle under the sand anymore. He isn't hard to counter at all.

Sand isn't the issue in that situation, it's staying in the lane as melee against caustic finale.

Goddamnit I've been waiting FOREVER for an invite to this. :(

Someone send me one?

*begs*

That's not what this thread is for and is bannable, take this elsewhere.

For those that are new, instead of a list of heroes to try, how about a list of ones to avoid?

Pudge
Broodmother
Chen
Drow Ranger
Enchantress
Morphling
Invoker (definitely)
Mirana
Dark Seer

There might be more obvious ones I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Earthshaker
Axe (to be honest, everybody should avoid Axe)
Shadow Fiend
Spectre
Storm Spirit
Silencer (see Axe)

Just went 2-4-30 with Enigma. Gosh, nearly 1.5 hours of nonstop stomping from both sides. Now that's what I call a Good Game.
Nota Bene: activate BKB before you actually jump into the fight.

Greetings brethren....

Does any of ye olde HON-GAF still play this beta? I'll be playing starting Monday when if I return from a bachelor party in VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS.

HoN-gaf does not play, only dodge 8D

Actually quite a few of them play, some a lot more frequently than others. Ask an actual HoN-gaffer for a list of names.

I'm glad there are some good Clinkz out there. I just played with a guy that picked him says "i hope these guys are mad" proceeds to get owned 0-7, ragequits.
