Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Edit: Most people learn the rules of the game by playing. Not by studying them without using them in practice.

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I would posit that Dota2 is so arcane and complex that if you have no knowledge of MOBA games (like me) that just jumping in would elicit only confusion. Maybe you guys are gaming savants, but it was confusing as hell to me prior to reading some guides.

And I have to agree with the other guy - if I'm playing on NA servers, I expect the language being spoken is English. I'm not going to rage on some dude for not speaking English, but no one should express surprise that people are upset that people on an NA server are speaking a different language.

Enigma is an awesome hero. One of my favorites alongside with Dazzle. The bad thing he's too fragile and good team focusing me in no time. Anyone care to share good item builds of him? I generally do this one, and it serves me well:
Basilis - 2 Clarity
2 Clarity - Soul Ring - Boots
Dagger - BKB - Shiva - Vanguard (rarely)

5 clarities (+tangos if laning)
work your way through the emo ring then boots

from there it opens alot of options
treads/mek/vitality booster/bkb/dagger/book depending on situation

TBH, I never used the book. In what situations it could be useful? I heard one of the minions grants True Sight and another one can burn enemy's mana.

Level 3 book creeps do about 150 combined right click damage(can't really remember the exact value) so during a black hole they could do a lot. But as you said its pretty situational. Against a bounty hunter, clinkz, or weaver for example you might consider one just for the true sight.

Necronomicon summons 2 minions, a warrior that explodes for damage and an archer that has a mana burn spell and an attack/movement bonus. The book can be upgraded twice and at level 3 the warrior minion has true sight.

Valve needs to make an ingame translator the common moba terms will be recognised and translated into the language of your choice the rest aren't as urgent so it could use google translate with a slight delay.

I think it would be cool if they implemented some kind of COM feature similar to what Battlefield 3 has. Like you hold down a button an it will pull up a quick menu of common phrases and you just mouse over one and let go. Then it could give an audio/text notification that could be translated to everyone.

Need a dispenser ward here!

so noob, u mad?, tryhard, stop feeding, i hate my team, etc

So not only calling "gg" when you are destroying someone T4 towers is bad manners, but it's also a major source of embarassment.

Spectated a friend's game yesterday : Radiant Slardar called GG when assaulting Dire T4 towers. Dire Invoker respawned with AA and ES, Radiant retreated. Radiant choose not to push for like 3-4 minutes, instead spending all their gold on some doubtful items and all being less than 1k gold as a result. Radiant tries to Rosh, are hesitant, end up seeing ES in middle lane and go hunting him.

One big NadoEMP later and some major Dire Riki ownage, Radiant gets genocided with 3 heroes (Invoker, Riki, AA) left on the Dire team. They push middle (raxxs were down already), kill T4, kill base, win. GG Slardar.

Embarassing.

Jungle build:
Starting items: 4 clarities, flying courier. See if you can get someone else to buy the regular courier, since it'll let you get bottle before the 4 min rune comes out.
-Use those 4 clarities to farm a bottle.
-Once you get the bottle, use it to grab the closest rune to the jungle or refill it by flying it back with the courier.
-After that, you'll wanna get mana boots to never run out of mana, gank aggressively(even before level 6.)

Enigma's not an auto attack hero, so use your conversions for the heavy attacking and if you get focused, just walk to the edge of the fight, don't get caught in the center or in stun range.

Noob question time. In team fights, who should be the main focus? The carrie? The support heroes?
By priority:
1) Supports that are easy to kill and have crowd control abilities(stuns, slows, roots)
2) Fragile easy to kill carries that deal high damage
3) Tanky carries
4) Everything else

It really depends though, and it all depends on positioning, you might not be able to reach the squishy support heroes for example. Also, some heroes like lich, darkseer, are heroes that you would want to kill first but once they get their ult off they become low priority.

Hurry up and learn Chen :3

fuck you noooooooooooooo

Shot in the Dark: Try Entrantress. Has a lot of utility, and can hilt like a truck too. One of the best heals, can slow people to a crawl, grab creeps to help in battle, and has a passive that when level 4, just can dramatically lower the attack speed of units.

The biggest problem is she naturally has next to no HP. She starts with 16 Strength, and gets 1.0 per level. CM starts with 16, but has 1.7 growth per level, so she has the lowest HPs in the game I believe.

yeah all right

YES. Okay. I've actually been meaning to do this one for a while. He's generally a mid, right? CAN he side-lane, or should I just go mid with him always?

I just got into the beta in the latest wave. Never played Dota before (though I watched a lot of the invitational), so I'm trying to translate my LoL experience, and it's been a bit rough. I'm adjusting, though. A lot of the UI feels pretty unintuitive at first.

I followed the Manly Skeleton King guide, and it's worked very well in these low-level matches. I know enough about how to farm to get gold, and once he gets strong, he's tough to stop.

What are some other heroes I should explore starting out, in different kinds of roles?

Seems, but is not so. Tension builds into huge, stake-changing teamfights.

It's like in Jaws. The fun is not seeing the shark attacks as much as it is about hearing his little jingle.

That was a 40 minutes jingle. It's another way of fun, so to speak ; big bloodbaths are cools, but chess matches as well.

I'm happy FIRE won game 2. We get to watch another excellent match!

Random: I fucking hate people who don't play with sound.

Me over mic: "Top missing."
Mid dies.
Mid over text: "no miss, GG"
Me over mic: "I called it, buddy."
Mid over text: "i can't hear you i don't have sound"
Me: "hnnnnnnnnnngh"

I also hate people who have a mic, but don't call things out, like when they're coming in for a gank. Hey, I know I should have map awareness, but sometimes they're harassing pretty hard and making it hard for me to farm and I need to focus on getting gold a little harder than usual. It'd be nice if you SAID WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO before doing it. At least ping BEFORE you go in, rather than as you go in! C'mon. SOMETHING.

I also also hate people who, when I'm pushed all the way back to my tower, expect me to run through two creep waves to assist a gank at the enemy tower when I'm fucking Lion and don't have the health to tank the creep waves or the speed to get there in a reasonable amount of time without tipping off the enemy that HEY something's up. WHY WOULD YOU TOWER DIVE IN THAT SITUATION YOU MORON.

Even farmy-farmfarm farm games can be fun to watch, because when it all comes to a head it becomes explosive. A good example is mtw's big comeback against fnatic's farmed Spectre at Dreamhack (vanguard, radiance, heart of tarrasque), the stakes were so huge that mtw mass-bought Boots of Travel so that they could jump up to the enemy base the second they won a key fight and killed Spectre with no buyback possible.

game breaking ultimate and tanky carry with a slow that goes through bkb? no problem

I know that, but all this week long we've seen sporadic usage from all teams for these two heroes and then today BAM! Be it Fire, Dignitas or Absolute Legends, you can be sure they're picked!
