Windows Phone 7 |OT|

I really wish MS would update faster, and also have more bing map features in Canada, like turn by turn, can't even use the phone as a proper GPS in Canada

I have the LG optimus 7, should I upgrade to the nokia 800 when it comes out, or wait for a bigger size phone hopefully Nokia 900

Anyone who has a Telus windows phone 7 device can update here

http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/Software-Updates/windows-7-updates-main.shtml

They need to add features faster and figure out a way to get the slow moving carriers out if the equation.

I may be in (singapore here , feb recontact with singtel) , what is the best yet cheap(est) window 7 phone? Like what is the best low end model?

With the Windows Phone hardware restrictions, you can't really go wrong with any of them.

Out of the second generation the HTC Radar and the Nokia Lumia 710 are probably the best lower-end models. Prices seem to range from 230 to 330 Euros.

Of course the first generation phones are cheaper than that. Notable here are e.g. the Samsung Omnia 7 and the LG Optimus 7, but if any of the other 1st gen phones are cheaper, you can't really go wrong with them, either.

Okay so I'm quitting android and looking for alternatives.

What's the best windows phone out there and preferably with 4G and HD res.

It's posts like these which is why I say MS needs to get Apollo out ASAP to help with the hardware race no matter how much it really matters in terms of performance or not. The ill informed are going to ask for new phones with "fast" processors and "HD" screens.

PS: For the OP either get one of the 3 Nokia Phones based on where in the world you live, and what's available to you. If not then try and wait for the next gen devices in the summer/fall of 2012.

And why do you think that? What would change?

- Hardware keyboards CANNOT contain the following: ok/home, send/end, insert, control, alt, caps lock, tab, escape, or delete
- The hardware keyboard CANNOT be used to control the UI, meaning no D-Pads or arrows that move screen elements. That said, OEMs can use arrow keys to move the cursor
changing the above requirements is essential for any physical button handset I'd use. at least send/end button and a D-pad should be available to the user.

In the process of returning my iPhone 4S due to the annoying noises it makes over 3G. Is it worth getting a WP7 phone at this time or will I regret it in a few months when better devices comes out?

I suppose I could go for an interim cheap WP7 phone until then. All of them would be an upgrade for the current 3GS I'm using.

is the samsung focus the only wp7 with super amoled screen? how bad does the lumia looks in comparison, will seeing how good the focus' screen is affect my enjoyment of the lumia?

I fiddled around with the OS and I was really impressed with how it looks and the smoothness of it all. Coming off Android it was a world of difference, too bad about lack of apps because otherwise I would make the switch in a heartbeat. I don't really care about the lack customization, honestly I really like the way it looks and how practical it is so why would I want to mess with it? Really impressed.

It confuses me why MS treats their mobile games like XBL on the 360. One game a week, limited sales a week, etc.

It works on the console, but not in the mobile space.

My assumption is they don't really care about the games.

Don't fall for this little Android. Seriously, trolls need attention and you guys fall for it. Every time.

I'm not sure how it's trolling to recommend a mature and stable platform with significant mindshare and marketshare and half a million apps on it's app store. The guy said he wanted 4G and an HD screen, I can't help him with the 4G unless he stays with Android and is in a Verizon LTE coverage area, but there aren't any Windows Phones with HD screens so it's not an option for him.

does it have the game support that windows phone has?
Huh? iOS has much better game support than Android and Windows Phone combined.

"Preferrably" =/= Requirement

They really need to do something about this browser. Seems like more mobile websites don't work than do. Here's to hoping IE 10 comes with apollo and it actually improves things too. It can be fairly slow to render as well

Why the heck is windows phone radio going away? They didn't go into details, but it sounds like Ben the PC guy and another team is taking over the consumer facing blog and communications. I hope there is a podcast involved, and I hope they give out more useful info.

That podcast is terrible. Windows Phone Dev is muuuuuuch better. I guess it's hard to do an official podcast because everything worth talking about are rumors.

Is there anything else good out there?

Eldar needs his own comedy show, even if it's just a podcast series.

"Shit Eldar Murtazin says" would be a good title.

yeah but its not the same. iPhone has the most games and the games with the highest budget

I agree, but Apple implementation of GameCenter is uber cheap. It does not work for more than one user in a single device. Xbox Live is way better, but MS should put multiplayer on the WP a high priority.

Wordfeud username: kazinova

Let's pretend this is the same as Words with Friends since Zynga is still completely unaware WP7 exists.

Words by Post is still the best word game on the platform.

My username is vanmardigan on that.

Edit: I prefer it to Words with Friends as well. No annoying full screen ads after every play, you get a points preview, and the options are better without having to do an extra menu.

Anywhere I can find out what's in the latest Lumia 800 update? Don't really want to risk updating without knowing as it seems to be working ok as it stands.

Have we had updates that screw up performance on windows phone? I know that happens on ios, but I think we've been spared that so far given the similarities in hardware performance.

Gave Words By Post a try and I also agree that it is better than Wordfued. Ads are less annoying as well.

Edit: I prefer the live tile for Wordfued though.

Dammit ATT get this to me

Oh boy. I think I may have found a bug/omission that I've never seen mentioned.

Anyone with Exchange contacts try to search for a contacts number. You will see no results found. Now hit search "your organizations" directory. Once again no results found.

Add that contact to google and do the same thing and it will work.

Basically it looks like exchange contacts don't search any deeper than the name.
