Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

I guess I'll throw this idea up but would any of you veterans be willing to hold coaching scrimmages? I find it odd that in a game where people need to learn how to work as a team that the mechanisms for learning the game are largely "go read a guide/practice against a bot/lose a bunch of matches solo." Seems to me that learning the game with a group of people would be the ideal way to really jump in. I remember when I was learning DOW2 (which has a ridiculous learning cliff as well) that there was a community called "Project L2P" which consisted of people that would coach newbies (game needed it due to the insular community). What I'm thinking is that we have scrimmages where there are maybe 2-3 veteran players and 7-8 neophytes (split the teams evenly) scrimmage and just focus on teaching the game. Thoughts?
this would only work if the veterans played hard support or spectacted with only their fog of war. Everyone would need to download mumble too.

While I understand that mumble is superior...Is there something wrong with steam chat? Friends and I have used it for TF2 and it's worked just fine...I figure veterans could play any role as long as they're explaining what they're doing..

Enter a room as opposed to having one person having to invite and reinvite everyone over and over again. It's just so so so much simpler.

I discovered Dota WC3 many years ago when we had lan tournament at school as a little kid and and I have been playing ever since. Got my hands on a beta key some months ago and I really enjoy it.

Is it only me or is Anti-mage really really strong compared to Dota WC3? Can it be because of the enginge that he is easier to play? Anyhow I hope they add all the heroes as soon as possible and start doing some balance changes.

Think anti-mage needs more then a BAT nerf.

I brought this up in the mumble a while back but it was pretty quiet so it didn't go far. Do you think they'll give Rubick unique animations for his stolen spells? Or will they just have it like it was in wc dota?

Also who pays for the mumble, I don't like using it without contributing something.

I got the keys working but they still aren't default. Am I going to have to rebind them all manually?
I've never encountered the problem myself, but I imagine if you can just rebind all the keys that would fix it, unless it's resetting on shut down.

Thanks, I think once I have the necessary equipment (a mic) I can join you guys:)
Can still come in and listen! Artainisix, Ikuu, Pillow and some others don't speak in Mumble, they just listen. Will still help you function better during the In Houses.

Does anyone think Ursa is OP? I admit, he is a little tough to drop down, and you can die in a matter of a few seconds if you're not careful.

Had an Axe try to tank me in all the teammfights right now and he called Ursa OP and we just laughed a bit. Funny thing is that they weren't really focusing me down and Axe had to pay the price.

Countered by wards and proper map awareness.

(Which means yes, he's OP in lower level games and pubs)

If someone uploads a video of their matches I and others can add our commentary via annotations, although half of it would just be "CY@" and "BIG THROWS". Something like this would be easily preserved for browsing.

(I don't claim to be a good DOTA player but I have extensive knowledge and am willing to teach.)

Had a solo matchmaking game where the other team went Enigma, Ursa, Skeleton King, and two others. One of our teammates said to hurry up and pick our heroes and immediately go to Roshan pit. We first blooded Ursa..it was a very nice feeling hehe.

You're back Haly :O

And yeah, we've countered Ursa's before and stopped them right in their tracks. It's always satisfying to take them down :3

And I would never record my matches and upload them until I know I am a god among pub players (which shall never happen, so I'll stick with random TF2 vids for now).

Funny thing I just played an MM game where I picked Ursa and a friend chose Skeleton King. We went to the rosh pit to kill him, and right as we did, the enemy team showed up. They got first blood on our Viper, but I ended up getting a triple kill right after :lol. Super entertaining, if anyone wants to see how it happened just download the game from my dota profile.

Always like spectating your games, so I'll go ahead and watch it.

I was watching that for a bit. Medallion/blink Dazzle was neat, lol.

Had a SB ult me as I tp'd out of my sandstorm and he ended up killing me by the throne. According to my teammate double clicking scrolls will send you back to the well, cool.

Anyone know someone else besides Purge that does gameplay commentaries about their games?

Been watching Eric from Dotacast and I love his awesome videos. Feel like I would benefit if I saw other people talk about their plays.

Purge spotlight: Goblin Shredder

Damn, this hero looks really fun to play and watch. Hooking himself into trees, wiping out a bunch to get pure damage on his shred spin thing, using his blade ult to create chokepoints and slow fleeing enemies, and tanking up more and more with damage.
