I tried out Chen for the first time ever in practice last night. I was expecting to just struggle with jungling and I actually did just fine. I may have to give him a try in a real match. He seems really cool. I had no idea that the creeps you take over have no time limit.

He's like a better version of Enchantress in that regard, but a worse version of enchantress in that he tapers off super quick if your team doesn't take advantage of him when he's in his useful stage.

AFK Jungling is no problem, it is doing something in lane that is an issue. Also, I wish my allies in the games I play Chen in would be better about letting me know they are being attacked, so often I find they are dead, their enemies are low, and they didn't say a word about needing a heal, AND I am in Mumble with them. Communicate god damn it.

Anyone else immediately change bindings?

I changed camera to WASD, abilities to 1-6. and the rest to unused buttons.

I find that clicking for moving and attacking is much more accurate, because I can instantly cancel animations and attacks that way instead of fumbling with my keyboard hand, and my one hand is always on the mouse anyway.

Also Drow Ranger mid to late game is amazing. Fully upgraded Frost Arrows + Sange and Yasha and/or Hyperstone is amazing.

Although when I run that setup I tend to favor Arcane Boots + Void Stone/Soul Ring/Sage's Mask instead of something like Power Treads, I like to keep Ice Arrows on at all times during firefights, and with the increased attack speed you can shoot around 20-30 arrows in rapid succession in a firefight.

I've been very successful with this setup.

First time I've seen Batrider in one of these games.

Next on the list, Spirit Breaker. At least he can semi-carry later.

Do it dd., do it.

I did the camera on WASD as well, main skills are 123, Ulti is still on R.

I also like the fact I can use my mouse better this way, and since I've only really played FPS's as well this is just what I'm used too and I'm more effective with it. Some people can't wrap their heads around it. But I like this just fine myself.

Also: Dignitas vs DD was a crazy game.

dota_force_right_click_attack 1

Best if you put it in your autoexec.cfg. If you haven't made one yet, it goes in the Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\cfg folder, simply make it with notepad.

im sorry, is there any guide out there for steam noobs who have not done this before?

Go to the folder where it is located, Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\cfg

Then make a notepad file called autoexec.cfg and put dota_force_right_click_attack 1 in there.

At least that's what I think. Pretty sure it works that way.

That's correct, there are some other useful commands I posted a few pages back you might want to throw in there. There's one to have a range indicator on spells, change the size of the hero icons on the map, automatically join a certain chat channel, and other things.

Sounds like a real troll-build ^^

This build probably works on low match-making, but later you'll probably want to go for treads -> manta -> bkb (if needed) -> *any damage item*. Atleast something close to that build. Many players tend to get life-steal at some point since you can apply frost arrow, shoot a few shots with life-steal and then reapply the frost arrow.

Getting S&Y isn't really worth it since frost arrow has more than enough slow. Hyperstone will probably not be needed since your ultimate and other items will give you high attack speed. Mana boots is something someone else in your team can get and mana regen items shouldn't be necessary. Damage/survivability is far more important to have as a carry.

Helm of the Dominator on Drow Ranger also seems pretty good. I've been using that when I play her.

The most mana regen you need on drow is ring of aquila, or however it's spelled. As kazabi said, you need treads for the stats/AS over the mana, as drow is reliant on auto attacking and doesn't really need much mana to be effective.

As suggested above, things like manta and bkb are far better than sny, as you already have a slow orb, and drow really needs lifesteal to stand up to other heroes later on.

Hyperstone is honestly a pretty awful pick up on her, considering all the AS she gets from stats and unless you're making AC, which you probably won't be, it won't build into anything useful for you. With the stats from your ulti alone you should be able to attack in rapid enough succession to refresh frost arrows on your target, as the duration isn't all that short, combine this with the AS from treads and yasha and the additional attacks from hyperstone are more or less wasted mana. Combine all this with the fact the drow benefits much more from damage because of her aura, and hyperstone becomes a very inefficient item.

Ye, I wrote: "Many players tend to get life-steal at some point since you can apply frost arrow, shoot a few shots with life-steal and then reapply the frost arrow." :EE

I don't always get it, but if I must be a really hard carry late game, I feel like life-steal is really needed since it's probably one of the strongest orbs on late-game carries. But if I feel like the other team is giving me space to just attack without taking too much damage, I rather go for another damage item.

As Procarbine wrote, I forgot about the ring of aquila which is really good on her too.

Found the post you were talking about, quoting for questions on the current page.

By the way, don't forget you can throw that "dota_disable_range_finder 0" in your autoexec.cfg. For those that have never made one of those before, here's how you do it.

Just open a text editor and throw in the commands you want, then you will save it to (Wherever Steam is installed)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\cfg\autoexec.cfg

Make sure you save it as "autoexec.cfg" obviously. Then when you run the game, it should execute those commands automatically. Here's some other useful commands I threw in mine.

dota_camera_accelerate 49 - Makes camera movement like Dota 1/HoN/LoL/other RTS games if you don't like the way it is in Dota 2 by default.

chat_join NeoGAF - Joins NeoGAF chat channel when you start up.

dota_hud_healthbar_number 0 - Turns off that number for your own hero's health that's always above your head now. (That was added since the Silencer/Spirit Breaker update)

dota_minimap_hero_size 700 - Changes the size of the icons of the heroes on the minimap when you hold Alt. The default is 600, which I thought was too small, so mine is 700. Feel free to make yours bigger or smaller to suit your needs.

Lastly, someone claimed these four commands fixed the delay of movement after you click to move a hero, but I haven't really found them to do anything really. I still left them in, I may try taking them out and see if it's any different.

cl_interp 0.05
cl_interp_ratio 2
cl_smooth 1
cl_smoothtime 0.01

I forgot HotD had lifesteal on it, I was only thinking of it's active ability, derp.

sorry my english is how you say, not good.

lifesteal was needed on by crit cm, made it possible to jungle efficiently and not have to go back every couple of camps.

I'm confused, are we talking about Crystal Maiden or Chen now? I didn't really feel the need to go back to fountain when jungling when Chen, and Crystal Maiden isn't really a jungler.....

Neki does nothing but troll people in this thread.

Although in this specific instance he might be mocking the people to whom Kirby is referring - those who don't communicate. A bit of a toss-up. Could go either way.

ask milkman who was more effective

a jungling cm, or a 0-1-0 clinkz.

the fact that you think I'm trolling is despicable. you're a terrible person. please refrain from trying to be a good person, because you clearly lost the ability to do so a long time ago.

Why do certain orbs have extended range, and increased attack speed for no reason?

For example, Drow ice shot. Longer range than her normal attack range, and seems faster than her normal attack, and completely ignores base attack speed at lower levels. Same with Silencer orb. Getting like 2 shots of with drow seems balanced because slow + another shot, but with silencer, I'm seriously getting like 2-3 auto attacks in from like 600-650 range while walking forward without boots, and once I get boots, they can't even get a last hit.

Watched a few series over the weekend, really liking it as an esport after dabbling during The International. May actually play it when it comes out too.

But damn I watched like an hour of map with that Aussie casting and right up until the end I thought there was a spell or ability called 'doxia' or something. I googled Dota2 glossaries and couldn't find it. Then it clicked after he screamed 'doxiaaa!!' for the 10th time. ;P

Was he saying "Dark Seer!" (pronouncing it dahk seah or maybe something like that) Dark Seer has finally been getting some play competitively and he does have moments where he destroys teams.

No Neki was talking about a fun inhouse game where one teams goal was to go 0-0-0 hence his Crystal Maiden jungling farming Midas, Daedalus carry items on CM. Really Neki you should have gone Mask of Madness GG.

:lol is that from the website that just gives you random items?!

We were short on players for inhouse and then Pillowknight was like trying to win with 0-0-0 is really hard and everyone sat the fuck down immediately. Picked Natures Prophet and went Midas, Boots of Travel, Sceptre and Radiance next was Shiva's Guard but they took our throne by then :(

Yep exactly. It was killing me trying to figure out what slang spell he was talking about lol.

soooo I played my first game this weekend......
0 kills..... 24 deaths....

I had (have) no idea what I was doing and kept asking my team for help on where i should be at and what I should be doing. Needless to say all i got was "We lost because of you" at the end hahaha. I supposed ill give it one more try with a different character..... haha

Who did you play?

Leshrac... His name said pusher so i thought that meant he was like a tank or something... boy was i wrong...

Leshrac is slightly advanced to play. What "pusher" really meant is he has good crowd control and can help push the lanes. You can go to the "Learn" tab to look at all the heroes currently in game. Tell me who you're interested in trying and I'll tell you if they're very difficult or not.

Try playing with easy bots first!

The difficulties don't actually work yet, there's only words there right now, but it's all the same difficulty.

Honestly man I am looking for a tank type character that can take a bunch of damage and be on the front line, or is that not how this game works? Maybe I am going about the way I play all wrong.

There are tanks but you have to be careful. If you try and aggro the whole team they will just burst you down. Good tanks are heroes with high armor/hp or that build tanky but also are too dangerous to leave alone so the other team is forced to waste their spells on the tank. Dragon Knight, Razor, Death Prophet and Tide are tanks. Tide and DK are natural tanks while DP and Razor build tanky.

I guess I'll throw this idea up but would any of you veterans be willing to hold coaching scrimmages? I find it odd that in a game where people need to learn how to work as a team that the mechanisms for learning the game are largely "go read a guide/practice against a bot/lose a bunch of matches solo." Seems to me that learning the game with a group of people would be the ideal way to really jump in. I remember when I was learning DOW2 (which has a ridiculous learning cliff as well) that there was a community called "Project L2P" which consisted of people that would coach newbies (game needed it due to the insular community). What I'm thinking is that we have scrimmages where there are maybe 2-3 veteran players and 7-8 neophytes (split the teams evenly) scrimmage and just focus on teaching the game. Thoughts?

Wrong. Straight from dev forums:

Here are the differences between the difficulty levels:

Easy
Reaction times for ability/item usage range from 150-300ms.
Bots do not try to avoid overlapping stuns.
Bots do not deny creeps.
Bots do not harass.
Bots do not roam or gank.

Medium
Reaction times for ability/item usage range from 90-150ms.
Otherwise the same as Easy, but bots will roam and gank.

Normal
The baseline difficulty.
All features are enabled.
Bots do not cheat (with a couple minor exceptions).
Reaction times for ability/item usage range from 50-100ms.

Unfair
The same as Normal, but all bots get a 25% bonus to both gold and XP.

There's lots of additional stuff that can be easily hooked up to this, but as a first-pass, this is the current state.

Tidehunter would fit the bill. Tanky, has fairly intuitive skills, and his ultimate is very easy to use effectively.

Sweet, Ill try Tidehunter tonight when I get home! Thanks for the help guys!

Had my first bad game. Ran as Sven, was the only STR based character on my team so it wasn't be the best game to try it on, as the rest of the team was ranged.

Went 1/17/17. Got blamed for everything. Just kept straight to the book and purchased the reccomended items in the shop menu (BKB, Treads, Str Gauntlets).

One team player immediately started calling me out for not going exactly where I was "supposed to", and would spam the mini-map notifications until I would go, despite me pushing bot or lane with other teammates. From then on it was the largest pain in the ass game to play with a team. Said person continued to check my inventory, what I was leveling, where I was, and would occasionally go to the "All" chat and say "Man this Sven >.>"

I didn't mind at all, kept pushing, stuck with teammates, tried to punish enemy heroes who wandered to close, would use the fist to stun, charge with Shout, then pop Strength. But then since they were all ranged they'd back out of hairy situations, and I'd die in chases, and then get blamed for kills. What was worse is that they would occasionally just sit back idly while I pushed forward, right in the same area as me, and then when I pushed to attack a enemy hero, and they did nothing until after I was clearly dead, they'd get pissy.

Going to stick with AGI characters for now, maybe I'll try out some STR in practice, but yeah, I was waiting for a game like this, and it happened.
