2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

I liked your WOW shots. As long as you're following the thread rules, any game is welcome, and personally I love to see shots from games that aren't frequently posted in this thread, especially "older" games. I'm pretty sure that we're all tired of Skyrim at this point, even though some of the new mods look great. The more variety, the better.

Exactly. It's certainly not the premise of the thread to only post new games, plus that'd be a shame as well. We've seen multiple examples of old and very old games being posted, they aren't exactly looking exactly eye-wateringly beautiful either but that's not the ( entire ) point. Just the feeling of nostalgia or for some, a look back in time to appreciate what we have now. While I did post those WoW screenshots for the sake of variation, WoW isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yes it's an MMO, yes it's not a graphical powerhouse but the artstyle is still second to none - Something a lot of developers should and could learn from.

You'd think this thread was more civilized.

On a different note, your ME1 screenshots, face mods or vanilla?

To clarify, I liked your WoW shots Sethos, I was just surprised because they didn't look awful

Agreed.

This thread is mostly chill, some people (rightfully) come down on shots that use the wrong programs and hosts, but some (questionably) come down because a game is old (?). Don't get the latter, but whatever, some people are just weird. I would rather see shots of older games, as long as they're handled properly, than more redundant shots of the flavor of the month.

Anyways, my shots were just vanilla, outside of the extra AA since ME1&2 don't have AA options for some weird reason.

Sweet. Just installed the game and with all this modding business I was afraid vanilla faces would look like a low-res potato as I couldn't recall. Seems like they are alright.

I'm still gonna rag on you for posting Witcher shots though Snuggler ;)

EatChildren do you have a link to that ME2 Texture pack?

Most of what I use can be found via these links.

The main ones you want are in the first link, being JeanLuc's character textures. I did have to dig around for one of the characters though as it appears he forgot to update his list.

You'll also need TexMod to load the new textures into ME2 whenever you want to play, but that is explained in the links.

Maldo did an extensive reworking of the tessellation and replaced a lot of the bricks with POM instead because the tessellation was unnecessary and poorly implemented. There was tons of it where it didn't need to be, like on the Jersey barriers.
There is no such thing as "unnecessary tesselation". If you can improve performance on Radeons by converting tesselated geometric details to "faked" PS-based texture space technique (for example, POM) then this proves only that Radeon's aren't effective in D3D11 tesselation and are more effective in D3D9-level POM. Basically, it speaks about h/w more than s/w.

A couple of Last Remnant shots. Not the best looking game by any measure, but very colorful and fun to play.

EDIT: Forced 4xSSAA via Nvidia Inspector and still can't get rid of jaggies on lamp post. *shrug*

Excellent thank you, got them installed and running without a hitch, question though, are you running it with AA? Can't figure out how to enable it through the Nvidia Control Panel, as it seems that it's not working using conventional means.

I'd try the UT3.exe trick but that messes with launching through Steam.

Antialiasing compatibility is set to 0x080100C5 (Mass Effect, Mass Effect II), Antialiasing mode set to Override, and I've got 4xMSAA with transparency multisampling on.

Looking at shots I took comparing the two, it's definitely working to some extent. ME2 is jaggy hell without it. But it doesn't clean up the image anywhere near as much as I wish it would. I had the same problem with Arkham City, and I put it down to UE3. Polys are cleaned up fairly well, but shaders are still heavily aliased and I don't know how to fix it.

Thus, I played through the game with the above settings and the texture packs. So you know, you'll have to run the game through TexMod every time you want to play, loading in the packs and executable, and have to put up with the lengthy first time load whenever you boot.

If you can afford it, I found SGSSAA works really nicely with UE3 games - tones down the extreme shiny shaders too.

I average around 30fps with supersampling, usually a bit over but mostly floating around that point. So it is playable. I just prefer the 50 - 60fps average I get without it.

Holy fuck at some of these Crysis 2 screens. They can't be vanilla Crysis 2, right? Because I recall many saying they were disappointed with the game's visuals, but I'm not seeing anything disappointing with most of those images.
Vanilla Crysis after the patch looks like that. The MODs just up texture quality somewhat and the Maldo one improves performance. But the vanilla game looks that amazing, tessellation and the advanced lighting effects are the highlights.

Maybe not but there are bad tessellation practices, specially when there's a company agenda behind it. As proven, vast amount of geometry is being tessellated that's not even in the camera view like the water for example. Also there are pieces of scenery with high triangle density that do not add much detail in comparison to the normal rendering.

Aaand I'm done. All missions, all DLC, all everything finished in preparation for Mass Effect 3, the entire journey documented by screenshots.

Playing Arrival reminded me how much I dislike it. The set pieces are fine and the locations are no problem. It's the fucking stupid, half arsed writing that totally kills it. Dealing with such a big plot point in a trivial, amateurish way. I want ME3 to arrive already so I can play it and move on, and forget Arrival ever happened.

Total size of my screenshot folder by the end is 8.33GB. This is a sample, and everything (bar a few I missed, and some new) I posted in this thread. Wazoo.

Feel like a douchebag, for keep saying this, but spoilers in the screens again;)

Very nice screenshots though, coincided perfectly with my own canon playthrough.

I know, I know :p. I was going to rip them out, but I figure given the tiny thumbnails they're not too spoilery unless you click for full size.

Bought it during daily deal on Steam. A surprisingly decent game. Loved the enviroments!

Sadly there were no AA options. Was unable to force it through my drivers too.

It was proven that the tessellation etc outside of camera view was NOT causing huge performance losses. It was a bunch of BS.

I'm playing it right now too, good game but the small FOV is killing me. And it's impossible to change it too. :(
