Shadowblade, while a strong item if used effectively, suffers from two problems:

1) Most people who pick Shadowblade start taking unnecessary risks as if they were Clinkz or BH. In pubs, people will usually be too selfish to get wards/dust, so there is no problem here. The trouble arises when people become dependent on Shadowblade as a "guaranteed" escape tool when really it can be nullified with only 100g per gank/fight. It is only as good as your opponents are bad.

2) As an initiation tool, it's safer (doesn't deactivate and you can get a better position), but costs way more gold (a luxury many initiators don't have) and provides a bunch of useless stats. Blink is better in 99% of cases because it gives you the element of surprise, is only countered by Radiance and a few specialized skills, and allows you to traverse cliffs/woods.

doom bringer ulti
Less effective than you might think. You still need a team backing you up to bring them down.

Simply put there is no solo-counter to either of those heroes outside of simply outfarming/carrying them.

I'd almost throw a Force Staff into the suggestion pool, assuming there's the likes of Prophet (with Sprout) and a great deal of AoE in play. Won't be knocked into cd by damage, and can also be used to chase or save allies in trouble. Would be a colossal upgrade compared to picking up a Quelling Blade to supplement a questionable Shadow Blade pickup, you'd save over 1.5k gold and a slot, as well as still pick up a 10% attack speed bonus.

Been playing a few games as Jakero, I find him pretty fun. The big issue is that it doesn't feel like he can turn the tides of a battle, only 'direct' it. His Stun isn't too hard to hit IMO, its his Q that I always have problems hitting due to need to be pretty damn close to hit it, and the .65 cast animation is often enough time for a person to get out of range.

He is a powerful force in a push team though, 50% tower speed reduction makes it far easier to take down towers, if you have someone like Veno you will never run out creeps/wards to tank the tower.

I haven't looked at any guides, so I may be skilling him "wrong", but I tend to get 1 point in Stun, then 1 in passive, then 1 in his Q, then max his passive, then max his Q, and do his Stun last. Often I'll pick up Arcane Boots, pick up the standard Magic Wand, get a Mek, and build a Euls (You get a great move speed bonus, a nice Mana Regen, a bit of Int, and anther active to help a team)

Also nice that you can "Backdoor" towers with Liquid Fire. One of the games last night I noticed an enemy tower had only 80HP left. I snuck around, attacked it once, left, and the DoT killed it.

pretty obvious, yo

people join the mumble, see an empty dota 2 channel, assume nobody's there, time to leave

not a problem if you're setting up the game outside of mumble and have someone to tell you where to go but if you go there with the intention of FINDING a group? esp if you're new and don't recognize all the names that don't match up with gaf names?

seriously, pretty obvious

Just to be clear the channel is actually called "Heroes of Downtime" with Sub rooms called "The Dire" and "The Radiant". It's pretty obvious yo.

I think it should just be one big room for everyone. That way no one will ever get confused on where to go.

I thought I'd make it easy for everyone to find the racist hon members. I hope it helped.

I thought the Heroes of Downtime channel(s) were for HoN and the DOTA 2 channel was for DOTA 2 or something like that, until I figured out that all the DOTA 2 people actually use the Heroes of Downtime channels. D:

I just got this beta and never played Dota in the first place.
I'm a nub but I like it, I have a feeling community will be assholes and hate me for learning :(

Enigma's Black Hole is a big AoE stun, though it pulls all nearby enemies in to the center while it channels. Silencer has a silence passive that adds to his intelligence with nearby deaths (while under the effect). Both Zeus and Leshrac have bouncing lightning spells.

So I'm really used to playing Veigar/Ryze in LoL, are there any DOTA characters that play similarly?

The other thing that makes this comparison complicated is that in LoL casters have nukes that scale with AP gains and Veigar is a prime example of this because its even a part of his toolkit . In DotA spell damage does not scale but rather, the spells themselves have high damage to begin with. Most heroes that rely on spell nukes fade in the very late game and usually reach their peek around 9-11.

All that being said if your looking for a spell caster that can 1v1 many of the heroes in the game with a round of nukes look at Queen of Pain, Tinker, and Lina. As said before some of these heroes diminish in 1v1 potential the later the game goes but each one has a time in the game where they are quite good at dueling.

Speaking of Russia, when I played five games with Tenck, three of the games involved an abandon by a Russian player. What is it withRussia and abandons?@.@

Haha no need to worry about that

they'll simply hate you for being born in the first place

theres a gross misunderstanding in the media industry about videogames having a negative influence on youth
they will look to games like Grand Theft Auto and completely overlook the destroyer of friendships - MOBA games
theyre practically training kids up to be assholes to each other!

Just played a game where 2 others picked random, so me and my friend did that too. Got Vengeful Spirit, wow what a fun hero to play!

Other randoms were Dragon Knight, Doom and Lina haha. Our 5th picked Brood.

The closest parallels to Ryza and Veigar, spellcasters with snares, spammable nukes and high burst are Lina, Leshrac, and Invoker, none of whom are newbie friendly. You could make a case for Tiny but I really don't think that's what he's looking for.

There are no heroes that play quite like Ryze and Veigar. They come from a different school of design that doesn't really exist in DOTA.

Oh my epic game going on on Singsing' stream.

They lead 60-30 (was like 25-1 early) and they just lost.

So salty.

To be fair he keeps grouping with these guys that only make builds worthy of Divine Courage apparantly...so, so, so awful.

I don't know why I try to learn new heroes. It always ends in disaster. Carries especially. Even when I feel like I'm actually approaching competence, everyone just steals all the kills that I could easily get, and I'm significantly less farmed as a result.

o woe is me

God i love Tinker , he makes hons emerald warden look weak
crawling robots over traps and no garwin bird for quicker item and skill cooldown

Sad to see so much strife but if this gets the pro players in general to start acting a bit more responsible it is a good thing.

Community is horrible.

When somebody jumps on me I point out how counterproductive it is and spell out how things are going to go if they continue that way. Curiously enough, quite of few of them when given the choice between shutting their piehole and certain defeat choose shutting their piehole.

From the sounds of it, the guy is an asshole who at times just randomly doesn't show up to game and lies for the reasons. A guy not showing up for a game in multiple tournaments does effect all players (Since it can push the entire thing back)

werent they planning a teacher mode?
thats going to be massively beneficial

I don't like DotA 2. I can't stop playing DotA 2.

Was able to start playing a couple days ago and I'm still not fully getting the whole concept of the game, and I can't stop playing. All other games just took a backseat and I don't know why. It's inexplicable to me as to why I like this game. Have I gone mad?

I've read through a few guides and tried multiple heroes, but I can't ever seem to make enough money as other people do and get destroyed by mid to late game. I think I'm doing it wrong.
