Mtw has Tinker and Furion yet can't push anything late game. I know WW has three pushers, four if you count Mirana's starfall and ignore SS using Wards for ganks, but still, Mtw should have full map control and they don't.

I might be imagining things, but I think Tobi just hinted that The International 2012 might be held in conjunction with a Starcraft event.

Tobi definitely throwing out Invitational 2012 teasers today. Started humming the Jeopardy theme when Maelk asked whether its going to be in Germany again or somewhere else.

I want to preface these comments with I've played two DOTA style games prior to this one, Demigod and League of Legends, but never the original DOTA.

Really dig that you lose money upon death (versus what occurs in LOL), that makes you really weigh the consequences of your risk and applies a punishment to you along with the issue of feeding the other team. I have to assume this makes intentional feeding less of an issue.

That said I'm not a huge fan of the shop (at least coming from League of Legends). It serves as kind of a barrier to what seems like a very deep game. For now I'm heading back to LOL, but really looking forward to Valve continuing to iterate on what seems to be an awesome foundation.

Just randomed invoker and didn't do terribly for my first time playing him, went 0/0/6 because I was playing super conservative, didn't even attempt ganking until later in the game as our side lanes were doing fine and I felt it was more important for me to shut down the viper in the mid lane.

I didn't even bother with any evoke spells, I was having enough issues managing mana and cooldowns for just the quas wex spells.

I think the difficulty of effectively playing invoker is a bit overstated. He has a very high skill cap and is really hard to utilize every ounce of his potential, but he can be quite effective just played as a team fight initiator with EMP tornado which is easy as hell to pull off. Have emp/tornado queued up, switch to QQQ, initiate, then invoke cold snap, switch to WWW and drop it on an easy target and bam, the fight is instantly 4v5 and the whole enemy team is at half hp and half mana.

I still wouldn't feel comfortable picking him, but it's pretty hard to be useless as invoker.

What is your issue with the shop, just the size of it? or the secret shop/side shop?

I like the dota 2 shop system more than LoL actually

"That's why you can't buy dagger as pudge"
If it works the same way it does in hon, the reason is more interesting.

If pudge blinks while a target is hooked, the target gets dragged back to his blink location(2500 max range hook). If pudge blinks before the target is hooked and the hook lands, pudge is magically teleported to his pre-blink location. Might just be a hon thing though.

7 game losing streak. Hooray!

My day has been like that playing windrunner. Doesn't matter how good a shackle I land if nobody on my team---including me---has the DPS to kill them. Always one lane crumbling, giving the other team a level advantage.

I think they should just bite the bullet and let Pudge and VS get Blink Daggers, the Force Staff is a decent enough way to counter it (for around the same cost). All manners of fountain hooks and leaps are turning up, and those appear to be more or less kosher.

And I've heard a little about this hook bug, perhaps something that could be fixed by a simpler prohibition? (Blink goes into CD when you throw a hook)

If they do then you will have to make it so you can cliff walk and go through trees to get out like in HoN other wise it would be unfair and very op.

I can see why they prohibited it initially, but Pudge/VS Blink have a counter now. One Force Staff would go a long away, two or more would basically be close to perfect. At this point if you're the guy attempting the tactic, the most you could hope to accomplish would be pulling someone out for a few seconds before a fight started, but even then, your team would be down a man because the blink will probably be knocked into cd (by the target). At that point you're using the Blink to just set up choicer points to initiate from. It could be a highly effective tactic to consider, but I don't necessarily agree that it would be overpowered.

Ugh just had a game where I was harassing and denying creeps for the Drow Ranger and she still failed to carry. Such is the life of a support :<

Just got a nice email from valve... Fuck yeah. I've never played DOTA or any of the clones, so my team mates are going to be pissed. Too bad I'm out of town until tomorrow.

Support cannot win the game if teammates are bad, though.

If you are a carry, then even if your supports are bad, you have a slight chance of winning the game yourself. Not with supports. :(
Don't agree with this at all. If your supports suck and you're a carry, they'll take your farm, push your lanes, and leave you to die over and over.

It's just easier to blame supports for a loss than it is to blame a carry. If the carry buys the wrong items and you lose the game, it's damn hard to quantify why you lost(For example, the carry bought tanky item instead of dps item and ended up dealing little damage). The same goes for team fights, if your carry focuses the wrong person and loses you the game because of it, most people are too busy trying to see wtf is going on and what's happening on their end to tell.

When the supports fail it's fairly easy to tell, when the carries fail it's a lot harder to tell. Most players can farm under 'good' conditions, having items is not what determines whether a carry carries or not.

To be honest I did not even consider into account a support stealing your creeps and pushing the lane, so yes, maybe in such a condition it's not easier as carry.

But going with the assumption that everyone has a basic understanding of those concepts, you'd be in a much better position to win the game yourself with Antimage than with Crystal Maiden, assuming the rest of your team is still newbish.

Maybe I'm just lost but it's damn easy to see why you'd lose and why'd the carry would be at fault.

And I've never seen someone go "Gosh that Crystal Maiden SHE'S SO BAD"...those comments generally go to gankers and carries. I've never seen someone blame a support myself.

Ceramicsteve, stay off my team in the future. Thanks.
MY NAME IS STEVE AND I LEAVE WHEN PEOPLE PAUSE THE GAME, RAWR!

What a joke

lol what?
unless you free farm for an hour while their carry derps around then you cannot win with terrible supports

if they're not constantly warding and counter warding they will get yelled at, and deservingly so because thats a good way to lose a game

Never said it was easy, just saying you have an higher chance of winning with...ah fuck it I'm done here, you guys are reading way too much into it.

Pretend I have two players, A and B, and A was all around better than B. If I picked NS and Lich in CM, I would give NS to A and Lich to B.

One major reason why I would do this is because player A can tell player B where to ward, when to dust/smoke, and whether to rush Mek or Pipe. Being support involves a lot of explicit knowledge, which is easily transmitted through in-game chat or mumble.

Player A, however, cannot tell player B to how to last hit, how to gank, or how to roam. Ganker/carry roles utilize tacit knowledge, which comes with experience and can't just be relayed in the middle of a game.

if you're talking about pub games, its better to play the solo carry, sure.
but still, a lot of games you will get a Russian dazzle player who doesn't ward or support, and you end up having to ward as viper/mirana and being underfarmed because of it

Any guesses/rumors on update tomorrow?

Seems like a toss up between Bane, Gyrocopter, Mortred and maybe Lanaya judging from the update last week.

Also wonder what they meant with the new way of updating starting tomorrow.
