Never mind the most obvious feature is scroll to the top of page.
Huh? I've had that "feature" since I got my iPhone in 2009.

Every single one of your criticisms so far are based on your ignorance, which leads me to believe that I am wasting my time on a troll.

You don't get it do you? It's shitty explanation and sometimes shitty implementation.

Are you arguing that Android is more user-friendly than iOS? My mom fell in love with my brother's Samsung Infuse screen, but her face when trying to use it was priceless. The only time she's needed help for her iPhone was while adding a second language to the keyboard.

Just a note: I'm willing to be sensible with you, but you're in the iPhone 4S thread. Don't expect people to "get it" when you're so vague and seemingly troll-ish about your qualms.

Both ics and ios5 are fantastic. Ive uses both extensively but always go back to ios for the fluidity. Android still cant match that sadly.

cuevas, to be fair; you're mentioning your preference for Android, when this is supposed to be the most straightforward of mobile OSes. So it's not exactly going to get 'easier'. (Well, maybe with WP7. Don't have much hands on time with it yet).

Whatsapp sometimes stretches the keyboard so I can't type, zynga games freeze all the time.

Hmm, I don't think I have any zynga games. Which ones are they? I'll be sure not to bother with them if they lock up all the time cuz that would just constantly piss me off, lol.

That's so intuitive, how did I not see that? Almost as obvious as the Find feature.

What do you mean by find feature?

Just saying some of the things iOS does are annoying. I enjoyed the way basic android apps could change the way the os behaved and that they had much more access.

Vyer- the "with friends" games. And how you type something in the google search to find it on the page.

This is exactly why I'm moving away from my Droid X and upgrading to a 4S next month. I've had my iPad 2 for a couple of months now and I just can't stand the sluggishness of Android devices anymore.

Also, I'd rather consolidate my data under one umbrella instead of splitting between Apple tablet and Android phone.

So you're blaming iOS for shoddy app coding?

Android gets that hate all the time.

Anyway, you could always kill iOS apps though, before the multitask just holding the home button killed the current app I think.

Does it still give no message when an app crashes and pretend like nothing happened in iOS5?

Those? Hmm. I've only had words and hangman but I don't think they've ever locked up.

And oh yeah, I know what you mean by Find. Yeah that one was definitely kinda hidden IMO.

Try out the Galaxy Nexus. The new OS doesn't have the sluggishness issue. I enjoy having my iPad and Android phone. It's the best of both worlds to me. I keep all my data on Google stuff so I can keep it all under one umbrella.

Yup.

I've been really impressed with iOS 5, feels like a big improvement over 4.

Not a fan of Android personally, but to be fair I haven't used an ice cream sandwich phone, which I hear is pretty good.

ICS is great. I was really impressed with it when I played around with it.

It's not as polished as iOS in terms of look and overall ease of use but it's still polished and is definitely not as sluggish as previous versions.

My buddy just got an 4S coming from an Evo 3D. Just like I told him. Everything just works. He concurred, it's boring, but it works. I told him to jailbreak to get some of that Android feel back of customization.

Its not as fluid as ios or windows 7 phone. I know this because i've used the nexus since it came out.

Well, I use iOS on a daily basis and swapped out my iPhone 4 for a Galaxy Nexus. Not being "as fluid" isn't really a legit beef, in my experience. What in particular isn't as fluid?

I think screen size would be the hardest thing to adjust to coming from Android. If I had to I bet I could get over the few things I couldn't do with iOS, but going to a 3.5" screen just wouldn't work for me again. I hope they go 2 models (I know some of you like it how it is) or up the screen size this year. Or maybe I shouldn't hope because then the iPhone would be back on my radar.

I got an iPhone 4S on Sprint a few days ago. Does anyone have any app or website recommendations for wallpaper? What about a QR code reader too since I came from Windows Phone 7 and it was integrated into the search button.

Everything basically. Just scrolling through pages or moving around in the browser. In almost every way is feels slightly sluggish while ios feels buttery smooth. Its not a big deal to some but to me it is. Also when I jailbreak an iphone its customization level even exceeds android. Oh yeah and apps are almost always first on ios, if not exclusive.

I don't think you've used ICS. There's no issue with sluggishness or lag.

Both my brothers got the nexus at launch and i've used theirs extensively since then. Also if your saying ICS is as fluid as iOS then your delusional.

I think some people just don't notice, ICS is a big improvement from previous releases of Android but it is nowhere near buttery smooth like iOS and WP7. I don't know what it is about Android, but it drives me up the wall and is my #1 for disliking the platform.

lol same, it's one of those things that I can never unsee. It's this subtle jank that is ever prevalent regardless of how good the hardware gets.

I think I read somewhere that it's because Apple (and I guess MS) have been unwavering in their requirement that the OS runs at 60fps. AFAIK Android's only ever run at 30 and that's what contributes to it feeling less responsive.

It's just crazy considering that something like the Galaxy Nexus has a dual core processor and 1gig of ram and it STILL is a bit janky. Man I was utterly disappointed with that when I bought the phone back in december.

I have been wanting a Bluetooth headset for a while, actually two years, but now I'm finally ready to go get one. I just don't which it should be?

It should have long lasting battery and a battery indicator on the iPhone/iPad.

What about one of these?

Edit: misread, thought you were talking about the Note.

RE: Android lag, it's my understanding that Apple gives iOS UI task priority along with it being hardware accelerated. ICS gave android hardware acceleration, but maybe they still manage priority differently so the UI isn't as responsive.

Apple and Microsoft have been in the OS game for literally decades. It is no surprise their mobile OS's run a lot faster and smoother than Google's. They both have had 20+ years of designing and running OS's for non-mobile platforms. All of that experience applies to when they shifted to more mobile based OS's.

I thought it was that iOS prioritizes UI speed over everything else where Android prioritizes the act of opening apps/loading things first. But I'm no dev so I don't even know if that's possible.

I have an idea. Howabout we go back to talking about OSs we know something about? Holy fuck, the amount of ignorance/misinformation in this thread in regards to both platforms.

Because it bothers me so much:

iOS in and of itself is only smoother than ICS on a GN when talking about the iPad 2 or 4s. Those two devices have exponentially faster GPUs in them (which matters greatly in a HW accelerated OS) while also rendering at a much lower resolution than the GN.

A GN and an iPhone 4 are about par with each other in jank.

As of iOS 5, the iPhone is very VERY close to Android functionality while still leading in a couple things related to visual consistency.
It only lacks modularity, Widgets and deep customization. Notifications are mostly perfect.

EVOs are antiquated android devices and should not EVER be used as a barometer for android os performance. Going from one to anything else will be a large improvement (doubly so if you get to ditch sense UI). Same apples to a 3G iphone.

Android phones do not run at 30fps. Wat.

Both OSs are pretty fucking fantastic for what they aim to do, and both can do shit just as easy as the other (blame Android 3rd party manufacturers for creating intimidating, ugly UI overlays for a pretty straight forward OS).

Neogaf would be awfully quiet if people stuck to talking about stuff they actually knew anything about.

I've edited to add a few of the usual sticking points.

The fact is, this is the iPhone 4S thread, not an Android one or iPhone vs. Android thread. If he comes here posting inflammatory, ignorant statements about the thread's subject matter, it's obvious there's going to be backlash.

So you agree.

I'm not defending that guy. I'm saying, don't do what he did so as to avoid further idiocy that comes as a result.

I have the Discovery 925 which is the 975's predecessor. Have had it for close to 2 years now I think, and it still works great. I had gone through a couple headsets previously, most of them being over the ear, and they just didn't feel comfortable. The 925 and I assume the 975 have these soft gel earbuds that fit perfectly for me. And they actually hold on even when jogging. I haven't tried the voyagers, they probably have better battery life, but comfort wise, the over the ear design just doesn't fit for me.

One other great feature for the 925/975 is that they come with a little travel case with a built in portable battery pack. You just put the earpiece back into the case and it'll automatically recharge.

Recently got an IPhone 4s 32GB and been noticing there's a bit of a delay waking the IPhone when it's not been used for a while after its awake it goes on and off without delay , its just after its not been used there's a slight delay in it waking.

is anyone else having the same problem or is it even a problem at all ??

Just got a 4s at the weekend, upgraded from a 3GS.

Now i'm sure it's been asked thousands of times, but does anyone elses screen have a yellow tint to it? Sort of a 'warm' effect.

I read somewhere that this might clear up with a few weeks use, but i was wondering if this really is the case?

I have it and I don't think it clears up since I know people thats had the phone since launch and they still have it.

Its seems to be a bigger issue on the black iphone 4s since my wife's white one is less yellow. Her's still likes like crap compared to my work iphone 4. My black iphone 4s which I've already tried to exchange once but all the ones in the apple store had a strong yellow tint. Its pretty bad.

I'm amazed a company like apple has such terrible QA. I mean the apple store service was great but the fact that all the phones had such a terrible yellow tint to be even allowed to leave the factory is disturbing. To make matter worst there's no screen adjustment functions without jail breaking it. (My friend have a jail broken one and he fixed his that way.)

Yeah when i compare it to my dads iPhone 4, i can really tell a difference.

I thought you might be able to 'fix' it by jailbreaking, i'll have to look into that.

Definitely not. The ipad 1, 3GS, 4 and 4s are smoother than the nexus and it isnt becuase of the proccesors or the gpu. Early windows 7 phones are too and there processors/gpu were garbage compared to what the nexus has now. It has mostly to do with how the os is made and optimized, not the proccesor or gpu. For example the nexus has a vastly better gpu than the iphone 4 but the 4 is noticably more smooth.

Is this yellow tint issue really a wide-spread problem? I'm about to pull the trigger on one and I don't want to end up with a yellow tint screen. would apple ever do a recall?
