can anyone please tell me if there is supposed to be a delay when waking the IPhone from not using it for a while ?

its fine after waking it and turning it on and off but just waking it after a while there's a delay

I know its not that big of a problem but its kinda irritating me that i might have a defective phone

would appreciate the help.

The 4S really does have pretty great battery life. Battery Life has NEVER been an issue for me, because I just deal with it. I carry a charger with me, and I never ever forget to charge my phone. Even if I'm totally wasted and crashing at some weirdos house.

But I've temporarily misplaced my USB-AC adapter. I have no idea where it is, and even more frustratingly I don't know where any of my back up chargers are. I think they're in storage. So for the last few days I've only been charging my phone in little spurts when I'm near a computer. And it hasn't made a difference. I went to sleep with a red bar last night, and woke up and it was still on.

Definitely not. The ipad 1, 3GS, 4 and 4s are smoother than the nexus and it isnt becuase of the proccesors or the gpu. Early windows 7 phones are too and there processors/gpu were garbage compared to what the nexus has now. It has mostly to do with how the os is made and optimized, not the proccesor or gpu. For example the nexus has a vastly better gpu than the iphone 4 but the 4 is noticably more smooth.

I'm not sure what to say to this. I'm almost convinced you've spent almost no considerable time with a Galaxy Nexus. I've seen the iphone 4, ipad 1 and especially the 3GS stutter and choke on numerous occasions depending on how data intensive a task was. They're all still fairly smooth running, but no where near the kind of flawless performance found on a 4S or iPad 2.

You're going to have to explain better where this "noticeably more smooth" is demonstrated for me to see where you're coming from. I mean, you have to take into consideration just how different any given part of the OS is between the two platforms. Home screens on an Android phone can be filled with data intensive widgets and live wallpapers. On ios, you have static app icons. One device is also rendering at a MUCH higher resolution than any of its competitor's devices.

Maybe I should do a video that shows all the core stock apps running on both platforms, and scroll up and down furiously to demonstrate the parity between them. I'm just not buying this noticeably more smooth business. Not at all.

*We ARE talking stock OS and apps here right? If you bring in 3rd party apps, then yeah, no contest. The iphones shit all over android ICS or otherwise.

Is this yellow tint issue really a wide-spread problem? I'm about to pull the trigger on one and I don't want to end up with a yellow tint screen. would apple ever do a recall?
Are you talking about the yellow tint caused by the adhesive? It goes away after a few days, if you get a unit with it at all. I haven't heard of any widespread problems, though. Am I missing something?

First off i'm not saying that the difference in fluidity between iOS and ICS is huge. But it is noticeable. Secondly basic scrolling through pages or apps on the 4 and 4s are identical. Also when im comparing them there is no live wallpaper or updating widgets on the screen for homescreen lag testing. Even if there were updating widgets it wouldnt matter. Windows 7 phone with live tiles is still smoother than ICS. Also ive been using the nexus since launch.

Its just the way the os feels. iOS has fluid animation, great responsiveness and just feels smoother when using it. I cant really describe it more than that. Your actually one of the only people I hear saying that you dont see a difference in fluidity between the OS's. All the people I know that have and prefer android devices still agree with me. Well the ones that have used iOS devices extensively at least.

Sorry if this has been asked many times but what do you guys think the resale value for a 32GB 4S would be by the time the 5 comes out?

Here in India used i Phones 4 are sold with a high price tag, almost as the price of a new one.

India as much of the world is crazy about Apple products.

After owning a iPhone 1, then a 3GS, last summer I switched to Windows Phone. But, hopefully tomorrow, I am getting a iPhone 4S.

I'm not getting rid of my WP though, I still love it, but as much as I denied it, I got hooked by the Apple ecosystem. I have a Mac and had an iPhone and iPad. I'll looking to buy an iPad 3 when it comes out too (or at least an iPad 2 for cheap).

Windows Phone is still really great, I want to keep it around and still play with it. Use it as a iPod touch, I guess, but the hardware of the 4S is too appealing, as much as I prefer the design aesthetics of Windows Phone to iOS.

I agree with the post above. That's actually one of the strength of iOS. It's like a finely tuned machine. Android is extremely janky and uneven.

I'm currently using 3 phones, iphone 4, galaxy note and a blackberry 9380. It's actually kinda sad that android is less responsive compared to a lowly blackberry. This doesn't make the galaxy note a bad phone though. In fact, the galaxy note is my main phone because I love the google product integration in it.

Just got a 4s at the weekend, upgraded from a 3GS.

Now i'm sure it's been asked thousands of times, but does anyone elses screen have a yellow tint to it? Sort of a 'warm' effect.

I read somewhere that this might clear up with a few weeks use, but i was wondering if this really is the case?
My 4S and my wife's 4S that I got on Christmas day had a noticeable "warm" look to them. Yellowish like you said. Was pretty weird, especially looking at them next to my wife's 4, but whatever the hell it was it was gone within a few days.

There was another thread on GAF explaining more about it. Something about the bonding they use on the screens not done cooling or something, but it seems to go away for a lot of people. Probably just temporary, but I don't know if that's always the case, so just keep an eye on it.

l've owned an iphone 4 for over a year now and and l can still put it along side my 3rd gen ipod touch or my wifes 3GS say on the settings screen and the tint colour difference is still very noticeable.
l think Apple decided to go with the warmer tint from the 4 onwards as opposed to the cooler blue tint on the 3GS. Or possibly as l've seen suggested on here before it maybe something to do with the retina screen.

lts never been an issue for me btw.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Maybe the point of contention is how we define smooth?

Fact: ICS home screens, app drawer, messenger, gmail, talk, gplus, web browser (sans flash), contacts, all scroll at 60fps. Same number as iOS. Both are equally smooth (one 60fps isn't better than the other's). Now maybe what you're failing to describe, isn't necessarily how smooth both platforms scroll through things, but rather consistency. I've touched on this a few posts up. While ICS finally allows android to have that magic frame rate in ALL stock apps, there are little moments in transitions that you catch a slight stutter (thank android's prioritizing of data load over UI animations). Hell, you can see it happen with the iPhone 4 when installing apps or loading large amounts of data while attempting arimations/tansitions (frame rate drop going to the search page for instance), or pinching and zooming around an image or animation heavy website (the phone can sometimes freeze for a couple seconds while updating the screen - ign and xda desktop websites are two culprits off the top of my head).

In any event, I'll just drop the discussion. Its only going to take us further from the point of this thread, while drawing attention away from posts that actually deserve it.

I just posted this earlier on in the thread, if you jailbreak your phone you can install ColorProfiles, which lets you adjust the temperature of your screen to your own personal liking.

It's just crazy considering that something like the Galaxy Nexus has a dual core processor and 1gig of ram and it STILL is a bit janky. Man I was utterly disappointed with that when I bought the phone back in december.

It becomes less crazy when you remember that the whole thing runs on a Java VM and a shocking amount of non-UI work is done in the main UI thread (probably because devs are stuck with high-maintenance Java thread management as opposed to asynchronous hooks/blocks).

Do anyone have any impressions? :)

I've been using the 975 for sometime now and it is the best Bluetooth I have ever owned. It is slick, lightweight, and comfortable. It has good battery life and leather case that charges the headset when your not using it, tripling the battery life. I highly recommend this headset.

I've been having some issues with making calls on my 4S recently. Basically, I have to make two calls every time I want to call someone. The first call goes through I believe but I can't hear anything and I get no signal/tone telling me I've been connected. For the most part the line just goes completely dark or I hear a slight echo of myself. I think the other side can hear me. I've resorted to hanging up after two seconds of dialing and redoing it again. Is this common? It doesn't seem to matter if I'm indoors with a bad connection to the network or if I have a full bar. Receiving calls work just fine AFAIK. Calling my family on a land line usually ends with one side dying on the other even though the other side hears the other one just fine.

So i went into the apple store and got a replacement 4s and to my surprise i wasn't given a normal IPhone box instead the guy took it out of a black box which was in a draw behind the counter but the IPhone itself had the wrapper on it and looked brand new and so far i'm having no problems with it,

but i'm curious though are the IPhones in those black box's refurbs or are they actually brand new but in a different box ???

I even asked the guy if the one he's giving me is brand new and he kept saying it's never been used before.

So what do you guys think ?

I got my phone during new year and it still has the issue.

So I don't think its temporary.

I don't think it's temporary either.

I've got it jailbroken now though, bought Color Profiles and made it slightly cooler, so it looks how it should.

Someone posted a really nice silver case but I can't find it. It was pretty expensive and had a clasp at the top the fasten it. Can anyone link me to it?

It's a refurb. The Apple Store also gives you replacement iPhones from a black box w/ screen and backplate protectors.

Apple refurbs are like new so there's no need to worry as long as everything functions normally. Try out everything just in case you need to swap it once more. Vibrator rattle, dead pixels, loose buttons, and unaligned gyroscope are things to look out for.

If you don't mind me asking, what was wrong with your first iPhone?

My first IPhone had a slight delay when i was waking it from sleep and after waking it , it would run fine , it was just that delay that was annoying the crap out of me.

The guy at the store even got his IPhone out and compared the two and both had a slight delay while waking it from sleep, but he still replaced mine for me, was just surprised it was not in an IPhone box. He did say though that the IPhone's do have a slight delay while waking them from sleep.

so a Refurb means that its been used am i right ?

before i left the store i made sure that it was new a IPhone i was being given and not used and the guy just kept saying its not been used before.

so i take it there's no chance apple well give me an absolutely new sealed one as a replacement c ?

cause i was thinking of ringing apple care and getting one sent out.

Can you tell if it has been used? If not, what's the problem?

I'm pretty sure Apple swaps the glass pieces on refurbs. If the glass is mint and the aluminum band isn't showing wear then I'd say you're fine.

I see. Sleep wake can be instant or it can take a second - that's normal.

An Apple refurb is practically brand new. The part that failed originally (triggering the return) is unlikely to be replaced with a similarly faulty part and everything else is retested, so you're actually slightly more likely to get a device which is completely up to spec. (Though it is still possible to get a faulty device.)

This is different than buying an 'open box return' from a store. In those cases, they've simply powered up the device to see if it appears to work and put it back on the shelf with a discount. That means you may be getting someone's "I just didn't like it", or you may be getting a device with a real, but undiagnosed, issue. (Reputable retailers put more effort into verifying that a returned item works, so you're less likely to get the defective item.)

If you call AppleCare, they'll tell you that they can't replace your phone with a factory sealed box, but they'll swap it for a refurb like your Apple Store did.

Well besides my new case that i got for it leaving a small scratch on the back that is only visible if you look hard enough in the light everything else is fine.

looks absolutely brand new no scratch's or any dents and so far i've found nothing wrong with it so i guess i am fine with it.

The case that i was using was the Griffin reveal case which is garbage , really poorly made , i've now got this case coming from Amazon so hopefully this is a lot better then that

Looks like I'll be buying my first iphone when I get paid this week. My droid 2 is falling apart and need a replacement. I'm having trouble deciding though, white or black? Also who owns the 64gb one? Is it one they usually have in stock at the apple store? They don't at the verizon stores I've been to...

Also what's a good, minimalist case?

Do you know if the profiles can be toggled via SBSettings? I'm using f.lux ATM but not having an on/off toggle in SBS is really shitting me.

I take back what i said earlier , been playing around with the phone to make sure everything works fine and i noticed theres a bit lag happening when scrolling page to page , most times its fine but very noticeable at times and theres also some sort of white dust thats at the back near the ringer switch.

An i going to be able to get another replacement at the apple store ?

or are they going to refuse seeing as i only just got a replacement

I bought this case before I got my 4S last month and couldn't be happier with it. It's more than just a bumper as it has a clear backing. The case adds very little weight and definitely maintains the sleekness of the phone far more than any other I've seen. I haven't dropped my phone so I don't know well the case itself would recover, but it seems pretty solid as far as protecting the phone.

I've got an odd question. I use hand sanitizer regularly and I was wondering if it could transition from my hands, onto the screen, and overtime dissolve the oleophobic coating? I always let it dry on my hands first before I go back to using it. But I was curious if it could still hurt it.

Call AppleCare, explain your problem, and have the rep make a note on your account to have your phone replaced. You can then go to the Apple Store.

Launch iphone 4 here, never used a case, gets grimy all through the day and I just wipe it on my pants. No loss of coating whatsoever.

yeah i've done that, got an appointment for tommrow morning , going to check the phone properly before i leave the store with the replacement .

btw is there a limit on how many replacements your allowed to have ?

this is going to be my 2nd replacement and i really want the one i get to not have any problems .

oh i well cause now half my games are crashing when ever i try to play them or even in the main menus.

This didnt happen at all with my first IPhone 4s :-l

When i'm at the store tommorow and they try reproducing these problems that i'm having with the phone , what if it works fine there can i still get the replacement or well they want to reproduce what i experienced on the phone ?

I've also noticed that on the IPhone itself the crashes i'm experiencing are getting logged in some sort of report in the diagnostics menu , so i hope these reports well be proof enough!!!

The employees won't question you - they're crazy busy as it is. They are mainly interested in did you call AppleCare in advance. You shouldn't have any problems, but if you do, just tell the employee to verify with an AppleCare representative.

Right I've decided to come out of the appointment at the apple store tommorow with a new factory sealed iphone one way or another.

it's only been five days since i bought the IPhone 4s and i really shouldn't be having the amount of problems i am having with it , The first IPhone 4s i had which was factory sealed i had no problems at all with it besides the wake up delay

with the refurb replacement been having crashes and hang ups in games and other apps, and there's also some sort of white dust line at the back, thats near the silent switch that runs all the way down the side.

So i honestly think if apple really want to help me and dont want me constantly coming to the store for replacements they should give me a factory sealed one as i only just bought the damn thing.

cause if i end up with another refurb and its worse then the last i really really dont want to keep going back to the apple store.

Ooo me likey. Big fan of minimalism so something akin to the bumpers but better is a huge plus. Thanks! My chance what color is the case and black or whit iphone?

So yesterday my iPhone 4S's battery died during the night and my alarms never went off so I was two hours late for work. Not a fun experience when you're meant to start work at 5am. But the big problem is my phone was on about 48% charge when I went to bed and it was completely dead 9 hours later. That's never happened to me before. The phone was on standby and wasn't downloading anything or doing anything.

It this the battery bug? I'm on the latest version (5.0.1) already. What can I do to fix this? I have access to the beta program and I hear the beta of 5.1 is out. Is it stable? Does it fix the problem?

I know it's been asked ad nauseum, but can anyone recommend a good case for the iPhone 4/4S? I don't want an otterbox, but people keep telling me it's the only one that really "works" in the case of the phone accidentally falling.

Currently in the process of draining the battery down for the first time. After all the horror stories I've heard about battery life I'm relieved that I don't appear to have any issues.
