Ah, so it's just too deep for some of us.
Anime in general is too deep for me.
Ah, so it's just too deep for some of us.
This argument is stupid. It's never too deep if you apply yourself. It's a thinking man's show, but if you want to give up and assume that just because you didn't catch all the symbolism that it must be somehow absent of depth, go ahead. No one cares. I'm not hurting. You're not hurting. There's no point in debating. If you want to stay ignorant, go ahead.
Just wondering, to those of you that would rather continue bickering rather than actually watch the show, did you even read through the analyses from the link I provided? Konaka Chiaki, is the guy behind Serial Experiments Lain, perhaps one of the most psychologically and philosophically intensive shows. It's downright laughable to even consider the absence of any subtext in any of his works.
Also, while Anno may have not known what he was doing with all the Christian "symbolism," he definitely knew what he was doing with all the psychological characterizations.
The ignorance in here is absolutely astounding. Did you even watch the show? So merging two separate dimensions and realities is considered regurgitating now. I suppose Fafner is the same as Neon Genesis now too. Gundam and Brave Reideen too? I see.
I genuinely believe it teaches some valuable lessons about life and love.

yeah
it teaches you to avoid bad shows, and that girls are psychopaths
right?
It teaches you the importance of compassion and of not clinging to things that hurt you.
The most important thing to take away from School Days is that none of it had to happen.
sorry but its just too over the top and nonsensical to have any real value to me
you would find more life lessons in an episode of shin chan!
1. No I haven't seen it.
2. I was mostly joking. Take a chillpill, Brostface Killah.
3. References and parallels aren't "merging two separate dimensions and realities."

This. I'm just surprised by all the EVA nerd rage. I'm surprised people thought I was actually attacking EVA. I love EVA, probably just as much as RahXephon, but there's something about RX that just captures the human condition slightly better. Yes, it's more romantic, but it still explores a lot of related themes through the use of parallels and references, which wasn't what I meant with the whole dimensions stuff (that was purely story).
I don't think this is controversial. The first three seasons of Digimon (can't speak past that 'cause that's all I've seen) are orders of magnitude better than the Pokemon anime.- Digimon left more of an impact on my childhood than Pokemon, especially the movie. Our War Game is better than any Pokemon movie.
Or bad 70s-80s super robot shows with pacing straight from the lowest depths of hell. Fuck yeah!yeah lets all spend the rest of our lives watching digimon instead

I wasn't crazy about Berserk's dub and don't fully understand why it gets so much praise, but I'd stop short of saying it's bad even by 90s standards. There were at least some good performances in it, and I don't recall hearing any who were downright terrible (from the few episodes and scenes that I watched).- Berserk's dub is pretty grating for the most part, even by 90's dub standards. I don't know why people praise it so much.

Well, Tomino shows man. He also directed a bunch of super robot shows, like Zambot 3.To be fair, real robot shows like Gundam have terrible pacing as well.
Nia from Gurren Lagann is a badly done character who is little more than a bald plot device used repeatedly.

The thing about CLAMP is that they actually hate us all. I'm not even being sarcastic. They truly despise humanity.
I'm not sure if badly done if the phrase for it, I don't think they really put much effort into making her more than a bland cliche. Generic kindhearted princess turned plot device seems to be exactly what they were aiming for with Nia. Though really, other than a few exceptions, Gurren Lagann doesn't really have very good character work.
- Digimon left more of an impact on my childhood than Pokemon, especially the movie. Our War Game is better than any Pokemon movie.
- Bleach was at it's best in the first 15 episodes and went downhill as soon as Soul Society started. I wish it ended up being a supernatural slice-of-life comedy with occasional fights and nice character interactions rather than a generic battle series with too many characters to keep track of.
- Berserk's dub is pretty grating for the most part, even by 90's dub standards. I don't know why people praise it so much.
- Complaints about how moe is killing everything is overblown.
- Azumanga Daioh isn't that funny.
- Cell Saga>>>>Frieza Saga
- Hare+Guu>>>>>Lots of things

Death Note's first half is great, the 2nd half is still good but not quite as strong.
Only Yesterday is one of the best Ghibli films
5 Centimeters Per Second is overrated, Pretty animations though. (might need a rewatch)
Mushi Shi is probably my favourite anime series ever
Well, Tomino shows man. He also directed a bunch of super robot shows, like Zambot 3.
But everyone agrees with this.
I don't agree with it.
She had plenty of character development, and was vital to the plot of both seasons. If she's nothing but a plot device, then Kamina is nothing but a plot device. Doubly so.after he's dead
Nia from Gurren Lagann is a badly done character who is little more than a bald plot device used repeatedly.
Kamina was a natural part of the show's narrative and progression
Nia literally popped out of a random conveniently placed box
She's awful in every way. Nothing about that character feels genuine.
Hahahah expecting good characters from TTGL
