[Anime] Your "Controversial" Opinions

I think this is true as well (as I admitted in my opinion post). When I've gone to conventions I always hear people shitting on the show so adamantly, it just feels like attempts to bury their feelings under the rug or something.

I don't doubt there are people out there that dislike the show, don't get me wrong. I just think there are people out there that pile on it because it's one of the "cool things to hate" because it was so popular for a long time.

Inuyasha as a whole was abysmal, but some of the components were excellent. Definitely a case of wasted potential.

Standard shounen doesn't have the artstyle/visual quality/general good quality of Soul Eater though.

Getbackers and a bunch of other ones do. If you're looking for a sense of style, you'll find a lot since that's one of the most common aspects of modern shounen. Stuff like Air Gear.

Well that's how it often appears when one reads in retrospect - but as he comes out with 20 pages every 3 months it can be quite painful to read. Plus, the anime version lacks a great deal of the graphic and gratuitous rape scenes.

Yes. That's how I experienced it for the most part - when I first read it, it was on about Volume 27, so I could read most of it straight through.

After that I started going through periods of ignoring Berserk for two or three years, then reading through again, and then ignoring it. It works for me. Right now, though I'm through the end of the Millennium Arc.

I loved pretty much every minute of it. It's hard to counter the arguments against it based solely on memory though. Haven't seen it since the Blu-Ray's came out.

I'll say this: It has a ton of Char. Anything with a ton of Char is a masterpiece.

Having Char is basically what I liked about it. I don't really remember what the story was. Or anything of substance about it.

Tomino should've stuck with super robots. While I dislike King Gainer it's much more bearable, and Turn A Gundam was more super robot than real.

Also G Gundam is an underrated gem.

The parts of it that weren't transparent PR pieces, anyway. Though, hey, I liked those DVDs. Turned my attention to several series I might not have otherwise checked out.

I think most people who have actually seen the series would agree with this. Or rather, that Gunslinger Girl executes an apparently ridiculous concept so well that it's awesome. It's a shame that the name, premise and advertising make it look like exploitative trash at first glance; otherwise it might get more of the recognition and praise it so richly deserves.

The Gunslinger Girl anime adaptation by Madhouse is a deconstruction of pedo wish fulfillment tropes.

Ken Akamatsu is the biggest, most overrated hack in anime and all of his works are fanservice harem garbage masquerading as a story.

Interstella 5555 isn't even a good Daft Punk music video. It's like Leiji Matsumoto made a mediocre silent film about blue people to which Daft Punk was added as a vastly superior accompaniment. Overrated like crazy.

I think this is the only thing in this thread that I had to double take at.

:(

My Bride is a Mermaid is an awful, unfunny show about people obnoxiously screaming at eahc other.

Ken Akamatsu is the biggest, most overrated hack in anime and all of his works are fanservice harem garbage masquerading as a story.

Love Hina is trash even by the low standards of harem shows.

:( Admittedly, I haven't watched it many years. It has a Tsuneo Imahori soundtrack, that has to count for something.

its not for everyone, but its a good show. although ive had more arguments about its soundtrack that the series and games combined.

Man, some of these comments from people are making me feel awfully elitist and twitchy.

*just read some of the middle pages*

Christ almighty, I feel like the only person on the planet that watched Love Hina and apparently did not vomit violently afterwards =P

You are not alone! I have a friend who loves it, so there's two of you at least!

Speaking about Negima... am I the only one that thinks it's really just a harem show with magic? People kept saying that it isn't... but they're blinding themselves.

Also one reason I hate TVTropes is because it's filled to brim with Negima images.

I thought this was a well known fact.

EDIT: Infact, I'm quite floored by the idea that someone would think it's NOT a harem. It's about a single boy being surrounded by multitudes of cute girls that have comedic sexual/romantic tension with him as the main running gags of the series.

How is that not the definition of a harem anime?

I think we may have different definitions of style. Or at least, good style.

Hey, I'm not the one being close minded about an entire genre. Whatever, your loss.

It's disguised as a harem, but that's only because the higher ups wouldn't let Akamatsu do anything else. Once the genre shift happened, he put more work into the fight scenes than the harem antics. All according to keikaku.

I pretended Inu Yasha ended when they first defeated the main villain, and he didn't run away or do shit.

Also Kagome is a Mary Sue.

I've never seen one piece, but the artstyle is pretty fucking ugly to me.

Hell I thought it was fucken ugly at first and the show looked so retarded, stupid looking stretch armstorng kid dressed like a fisherman teams up with a zoro knock off who carries’ a bloody sword in his mouth and dicknose guy.

One of my friends after watching it on holiday in germany kept nagged me for a good 5 months to watch it(funny thing is he never really understood what was being said and still enjoyed it), I only started to watch it so I could trash it (I was 15 don’t judge me).

Controversial opinion - One piece is the greatest anime ever created (530eps on and it still hasn't betrayed me, it only got more awesome)

I know it’s uncool around here to like mainstream shows but I‘ve been watching anime for most of my life (around 18 years) none of it could prepare me for the epic, hilarious and emotional journey I was going to embark on.

I set off with hate in my heart but By arlong park arc the show vanquished the darkness in my heart and sending it back to the shadow realm.

ussop vs chuu - the first time I laugh so hard when watching anime that I fell off my chair.

you enjoyed the filler episodes? the ridiculous recap episodes and the really padded episodes? (jesus christ sky island)
Its a lot of peoples favourite anime, but saying that it never betrayed you is questionable

There's actually a decent amount of people that absolutely love Skypiea. I'm not one of them, but wouldn't really call it a "ONE PIECE HAS BETRAYED ME" arc. Foxy on the other hand...

Foxy, the recap episodes I skipped (therefore not really a big deal), and Thriller bark were the only bits I can say I haven't enjoyed about OP. Even the fillers are short and sweet enough not to be troublesome.

What I mean by betray me is it hasn't to turned to complete deus ex machina poop like the shows I use to be a big fan of i.e naurto, bleach back .

Don't dare talk bad about Sky Island, that's one my fav arcs (master piece)

-I didn't hate any of the filler episode, all of them where entertaining with comedy crew interactions except for apis yeah that one was the weakest but great compared to the filer naurto episodes I was watching at the time.

-recap episode at enis lobby sucked but I wouldn’t really know cause I skipped them.

I had a sort of similar experience.

I had a friend nagging me forever to watch, and it just didn't seem like something I thought I'd like, so I went into it sort of resisting the idea that I'd like it. I eventually kinda started to like it like... near the end of the Baroque Works Saga, and after that it started to sort of snowball as my attachment to the characters grew, I started to care about what was happening more, and it started to have this cyclical effect. It's something that can happen with anything, but it had an enormous effect on One Piece for many.

Then after I caught up, I watched it again a couple years later with a friend starting from the beginning, and suddenly all the stuff I'd been a bit bored by at the beginning was great, and the stuff that I thought was pretty good was much better than I'd remembered.

I actually loved Sky Island (hi, cosmicblizzard; you've found a live one!).

And with regards to filler and recap episodes, I never watched them, and since I was starting the show when there were like... 400+ episodes, I was marathoning the series, so I wasn't really bothered by the padding.

I prefer marathoning whenever possible, so right now I'm like... a year and a half behind on the anime and about a year behind on the manga, so pacing issues like that usually don't effect me the way they do people watching week to week.

I would say that saying English is better than the original is pretty controversial when we're talking about anime. A lot of people generally hate dubs in Anime.
That's why I cut that part out of my quote. Sub > dub.

Part of the plot is enticing such an idea from the girls as a mental trap. So it is the reverse of that. If you have a weird audience...well, this is anime.
Last Exile is bad.
I know you don't feel bad but you should.
Christ almighty, I feel like the only person on the planet that watched Love Hina and apparently did not vomit violently afterwards =P
Love Hina is fun. Fuck the haters.
Speaking about Negima... am I the only one that thinks it's really just a harem show with magic? People kept saying that it isn't... but they're blinding themselves.
It's a very average action series with a backstory and at times plot-flips to a totally shitty harem.

I don't get the hate or love for Skypeia, it was just fine to me.

And damn you gaf, rewatching One Piece... I might stop before water 7 as I rewatched that a while back :P
