Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Found Deckard, not sure how much longer I have left. I have a question though, do the weapon stats for each hand stack? I had a monk with knuckles and a sword, but he never attacked with the sword and wondered if that was just being useless.

They alternate per hit. Damage is based on the weapon that hits. DPS is an average. Dual wielding gives a 10% atk spd bonus or something.
Bonuses like +15 Strength are shared. You can click on your character details in your inventory window to clear up things.

Doesn't look like I'm ever gonna get in. My WoW account is banned, I wonder if that hurts my chances. No clue WHY it's banned, I just got some emails a while back about the pw changing and all that, I haven't been subbed in a year probably...

Oh well, guess I'll wait til release. :(

My main problem with the beta is that I use my Television for my monitor, and I can't read a god damn thing, NOTHING on screen, the text is miniscule.

Can't say I care for the graphics at all; maybe it's just the colors. Feels like I'm plowing through a Disney theme park and not so much a desperate foreboding land.

I'm ready to forgive it to some degree early on because Diablo 2 started somewhat lighter and took a turn towards dark and evil later on. What's really getting me about the aesthetic experience is the music. Fucking CLASSIC Diablo music.

Quick question.

I've level my blacksmith to lvl 4, and trained him 4/5 times for the 5th level. Now it says I need 5 pages. I was under the impression that Blizzard removed pages from the game. Is this just some way to make us stop leveling our blacksmith?

That is the highest level that your BS can hit in Normal difficulty. Pages will come into play in nightmare for training him. They just made it where leveling in normal just takes gold.

Just played for 1.5 hrs with my brother and it was smooth as silk. This last beta invite bomb was probably many times more than they had invited before and I have had lag issues before so the fact that they have it smooth with so many more players right now is encouraging.

I really have no problems with any of the changes they made in patch 10. Skill changes and cooldowns seem just fine but you get it in town too. I guess that is to prevent someone from TPing to town and then swapping skills and popping back in the portal. Really like not being temped to pick up every little white item that drops since they made magic items the base item that can be salvaged. I think this will help pace how OP you can become from crafting as well and I am not having issues with running out of inventory space and needing to go back to town yet. I know that will get a bit more problematic in the future with higher frequency of magic and better item drops.

My biggest gripe with the game is that you cant see chat at all when you are interacting with merchants like the BS or in screens that take up the whole left side. If they could move the chat window to the center when you are in screens like that I would be very pleased. Some people tend to spend a lot of time with merchants and it makes conversation a PITA.

I wouldn't be mad at all if they released in the current state but I am really interested to see what we get.

Same here! I bet they look at that...

Damnit, it hurts so bad. All of a sudden everyone and his dog is in the beta.
I got my account flagged and ik still waiting, it hurts so bad...

I've played a few hours now and I think it's pretty awesome.

I love how the game runs so smoothly. I mean, coming from playing SWOTOR, which has horrible framerates and gigantic memory leaks, this just feels great. I have it running right now and it's not fucking my shit up! I was seeing 90-100 fps on max settings at 1680x1050 while running outside fighting small packs of monsters. It really chugged when I got into a boss fight with a ton of enemies so I turned the shadows to medium and I haven't seen it drop below 30 during big fights. I also turned Vsync on because I was getting some tearing and stuttering without it. I'm impressed.

you used Rapid Fire didn't you?

the same thing happened to me twice yesterday when i used that skill.

Yes, I'm using rapid fire. Just discovered the solution is to turn vsync off, however that games the game very choppy.

Would be great if someone could provide an alternate solution. Rapid fire is very handy

The stuttering is a known bug they are going to fix.

First time poster but a long time lurker!

Really looking forward to this and signed up for beta as soon as I could but no luck yet.
Also seems like majority of those who got in are from US. (I'm EU)

Only one question remains: How does one get flagged?

I finally got in this wave. 3 of us burned through the beta 3 times in a row tonight. I tried out the New Barb, Wizard, and Demon Hunter.

More than anything else, I'm amazed at how well the new team channeled the spirit of Diablo. It's absolutely a Diablo game in every sense of the word, playing it felt like playing Diablo. With the smaller party size and slower running speed, it felt a bit more like classic D1 and a bit less like D2, but it was definitely very Diablo-ish. One thing that Diablo has always nailed is the sheer pleasure of slaughtering hundreds of monsters very loudly and taking their stuff. I know of no game comparable to Diablo in the sheer fun category except the Sacred games, none of the other Diablo-alikes have ever captured the sheer joy of genociding demons the way Diablo has.

The difficulty level seems lower than I remember but they will probably tune it for the final game. The graphics are every bit as primitive as expected, the one thing which is a bit disappointing about D3. I hope Blizzard is planning a Very High texture resolution for the retail release. Besides that, it's gloomy and dark, bright effects go off when huge death skills are used, the usual monster bashing sound effects are well-realized, and Deckard Cain still sounds like Deckard Cain even though he's like 1,466 years old now. It's Diablo. That's all you need to know, really.

I was thinking the same thing because my WoW account has been banned since last summer (it was compromised and I just never called to fix it) and hadn't had any luck with the beta since, but I got in 2 days ago

Yeah, it seems like the friends list adding is bugged for some reason. I wish they wouldn't wipe out the friends on each patch, characters and what not I can understand but this is kind of a pain in the ass every single time ;(

did a run through with a female wizard and really enjoyed it. they should really tell you to restart your computer after you install the client though, i was having MASSIVE stuttering/input lag issues just in regular play before i did that.

also - was with 4 people when we got to the skeleton king, and i literally did not participate because the game just went to straight 0 fps. i know there is a ton of optimization to be done/bugs to be fixed, but i was surprised my rig couldn't handle it (and other big encounters had the same issue). i7-930, 8gb ddr3 2000, 1gb gt460, i know it's not the highest of the high end but i've never had a single framerate/stuttering issue with sc2 so just surprising is all.

Really, Diablo II wasn't that hard either. I rolled a new Sorc on normal and didn't encounter one death until the Summoner in Act 2.

For many years now, whenever I start a new D2 character my first death is almost always at Duriel on normal. If I go into his battle unprepared and over confident, he always wakes me up. Especially with a summoning Necro, the skelly army at that level just isn't strong enough, and with no corpses to raise a new army, well it never goes well...

You know, normally right about now is the time I'd plan to boot up D2 tonight and play for a few hours. This is the first time in many long years where I can boot up D3 instead to get my Diablo fix. OUTSTANDING!

Looks like I've encountered a gamebreaking bug. I can't move forward as there is no content. Also nothing happens when I click leave game or exit diablo iii

Had something similar happen to me on both my demon hunter at level 5 and wizard at level 8 this past week. Basically my character would make the motions of casting a spell but nothing would happen, couldn't leave game or exit diablo, but would still take damage. Been having trouble playing/getting it running since :(.

Edit: Yep - I used rapid fire. And disintegrate spinning and winning on my sorc. Guess I should avoid those skills.

There's a lot of elements in the game I am excited about. The ambient tracks are amazing, the world itself is horrific, and it just feels like Diablo to me. One thing bothering me is how much gear I get that isn't for my class. At least now I have the blacksmith. Playing ad a monk is downright awesome. Love that class to bits. My final complaint; a checkpoint system? Ugh, that's awful.

Okay I played this for a little bit yesterday but then introduced my girlfriend to it.

My playtime: 15 min.

Her playtime: 3hr 15 min

She stole the game from me *_*

I had this happen when I first starting playing yesterday on my Demon Hunter (Didn't have Rapid Fire yet). It seemed to be more an issue of lag and loosing a connection to the content server. I logged out and back in and I was able to get everything to load correctly but my normal shots and movement was very laggy. I logged off for a while and played again later and everything was fine. I also had issues just logging into Bnet within the game as I would get the Error_30008. Its all related to a TON of new people playing the Beta and stressing their servers. They've been aware of the issue and are working on it now.

Wow 100.000 got invited. That sounds like a larger stress test. So we are getting closer :D

This would have been my thought as well had there not been a million news and updates with the game receiving fundamental revamps and key people leaving. The release is no way near.

I had the opposite experience most had. Playing the game solo I would lag out. But as soon as I play in a public game, everything ran smooth. Eventually others dropped out so I was essentially solo anyway. Better loot any how.

Played a couple hours, but my internet can be a bit flaky and I don't have much choice in ISPs.

Not going to buy the full game unless I move, AT&T gets its act together, or Blizzard adds an offline mode where you don't get sent back to the title screen when you lose connection to the battlenet servers.

Would be totally fine if I couldn't use that character online, items to and from their auction house, etc. But this always online "feature" looks like it'll be a deal breaker. Which is such a shame as this is one of my most anticipated games of 2012.

Only if you have V-Sync On. The current work around is to turn V-Sync off. I had issues with Firebats (Channeling skill as well), and that fixed it.

Sure its hard to die in D2 on normal in act1, even on Andariel, but it was much harder and npcs are more aggressive, also You need loot there, in D3 beta You dont, just get any weapon and You're killing all npcs with one/two hits.
Sorc is the least gear depend class in D2 :)

hmm - perhaps its only because I want to believe - but this doesnt make sense form a marketing standpoint in my opinion - the beta is short, so these 100k ppl wont play it that long and I'd think they would want to cash in on the impressions of the beta and not wait several months until release when every buzz surrounding it has faded again.

But I realize this could be just wishful thinking...

Key dev people leaving would actually indicate the game is mostly finished. I mean, whatever you want to critique about this and that, the beta is really good. Even with major changes it's obviously releasable or near-releasable.

I think the Diablo formula "works" in a number of ways, and Blizzard is just figuring out which way they want to release it. Maybe it has gone through a ton of iterations but it doesn't look anything like a game where key people were bailing out because it was turning into an unsalvageable mess.

That said, it sounds like they plan to release more beta invites and a launch just doesn't sound imminent. I'd figure we still have at least another three months.

So at first I wasn't really feeling this game but after an hour or so it's starting to open up. I'm starting to see how the normal mage and arcane attacks can chain and it's really cool. It's starting to feel like Diablo for me again. I thought I read something about a rune system where you could alter spells. I guess they took that out but I'm really looking forward to the game now. Though I still think the hero models look very poor.

Yeah I noticed this too. At first I was a bit eh, but after I got a few skills and a few levels then it quickly developed that Diablo feel to it. By the time the Skelleton King went down I was rabid for more. What a grand tease, lol.

I'd say this points more to the beta reaching a stress-test phase. They still have long ways to go with regards to the mechanics of the game itself apparently...

I don't want to dig through the whole thread, but I noticed that my real name is displayed when playing. Is there any way to edit or remove this? It's not that big of a deal since I've just been playing single player.

I wasn't really feeling the game either until I got some better skills and equipment. I've played through as the Monk, and I just started with the Witch Doctor. I feel like the starting skills just aren't fun.

They took the rune system out completely? i hope not, that sounded so cool (altering spells)

Same thing happened to my frozen account while I wasn't even playing for like half a year. I guess my account got hacked and was involved in some sort of gold money laundry scam.....I know, I'm not even joking. People go through all that shit, to get FAKE money. Blizzard definitely has the most craziest and completely irrational fan base ever.

Just call blizzard support to get it sorted out. Everything was taken care of with me in like 10 minutes.
