Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Guys the rune system is not out, lol. You get them act 2 onwards which is obviously beyond the scope of th beta. If they took out runes I would personally start a pitchfork mob!

I don't want to dig through the whole thread, but I noticed that my real name is displayed when playing. Is there any way to edit or remove this? It's not that big of a deal since I've just been playing single player.

I am pretty sure that you are the only one that can see your real name.

I'm trying to figure out the purpose of this recent beta other than to put out good stress on the servers. It had its hickups to start but it's been pretty smooth all around now. I haven't really found any glitches that I could exploit. I dunno. This feels like a product that can easily be put out to the public at this point. I know this is all Blizzard standards and their "Soon" statement nonsense but...really. Love the beta. I want more of the game now. Maybe I'll just push to get all the achievements.

Sure its hard to die in D2 on normal in act1, even on Andariel, but it was much harder and npcs are more aggressive, also You need loot there, in D3 beta You dont, just get any weapon and You're killing all npcs with one/two hits.
Sorc is the least gear depend class in D2 :)

Good thing inferno will probably blow away the difficulty of anything in D2 or any other loot game.

Really, Diablo II wasn't that hard either. I rolled a new Sorc on normal and didn't encounter one death until the Summoner in Act 2.

I didn't even use a potion soloing through the whole beta in a 4 player game. It's piss pathetically easy. Diablo 2 is easy for people now who know the game inside and out, but it wasn't always so. It was possible to botch your spec or skills in D2 if you didn't know what you were doing. It's not possible to do that in this game.

I understand that we're in a new era of gaming and that they are designed as more of a slow burn on the difficulty, but jesus fuck it was easy. A sorcerer shouldn't be able to just stand there getting pounded and give 0 fucks about it.

The first two hours of Diablo 2 on Normal are utterly and completely idiot-proof, too. Maybe it's marginally more possible to screw up a bit after five or six levels because you're assigning your own attribute points, but everyone who can click a mouse can play the first couple of quests in Diablo 2. I know it has nothing to do with people being familiar with boss rushes or the harder difficulties, because I never touched those in Diablo 2.

Try soloing with 4 players naked other than a weapon/off hand.

So I play a lot of fighting games. When the Monk class was revealed to be designed with fighting games in mind I was extremely interested in how true this was. So heres some evidence I put together:

Nice, ok now I am going to try the Monk again.

They could potentially be gathering a lot more data from 100,000 more people playing the beta than just finding gold or xp exploits, different computer configurations, see what class people are playing, what skills do they like, how fast do people close each tooltip, what parts of the UI are confusing, all sorts of data can be collected.

I think Blizzard had a big beta invite like this one for Starcraft II a couple months before launch. This could be a good sign the game isn't as far off as people were thinking after the recent changes. I'm thinking End of May like Starcraft II (If I'm remembering correctly)

Blizzard hates me, 100k invites and none for me :(

Yep, they did. Ironic enough, that was when I got into the SC2 beta as well. And yeah, the SC2 huge wave was a few months before launch. I'm guessing we see D3 early to mid summer at this point.

Well I was able to see my friend's real name in the beta even if some of them are not RealID friends in Wow/SC2.

Yeah I used my real name which isn't that big of a deal honestly, but I really don't like the way battletags are currently working. I don't wanna see my real name on all my characters nor do I want to see others. I want to see character names. It's crazy how few of places that you actually see your character's name in game or in menus.

I found this really weird too. How stupid would that be in WoW? It shows my battle tag over everything, even under my portrait while playing the game.

Yeah if I would have know if would have been so extensively used aside from just locating people similar to RealID, I would have used a different tag. Now it is what it is. Oh well, I'm sure at some point I'll be able to pay 15 dollars to change it to YouMadBroLulz#111! :(

Really shows that Blizzard could pick up a couple of fighting game animators with that WoW money. Ryu looks like he is really laying someone out with a nasty side kick. The Monk looks like she's doing a figure skating sit-spin, or maybe landing from a long jump. You would not have any power with your center of gravity way off from your plant leg like that. And what the heck are the arms doing? The Chicken Dance?

In any case it really doesn't matter all that much for Diablo, but seeing those poses side by side with the fighting games really does highlight the posing / animation failures.

To be fair, Third Strike has the best animation in any game I can think of. Would be awesome if Blizzard could make the monk have the same exact animation.

Looks like a small patch #12 just came out, my game just updated. And now it looks like battlenet is down, I can't log in and play.

Ah, the first glimpse of what it will be like having a Diablo III you can't play offline...:(

Been enjoying the beta since I got in recently.

Unfortunately, the writing and voice acting is pretty awful. Standard for Blizzard I suppose but just like WoW it's written by nerds, not professional writers, whose idea of what is cool is rather embarrassing.

Yeah let's have them put that much detail into an animation that has to be modified for each rune never mind that much of said detail will go unnoticed in actual gameplay, but forum posters like this will be satisfied!

Do you read what you type, man? "my immersion!"

I just beat the Skeleton King with a Demon Hunter. I think they're pretty cool as far as ranged classes go. Why can they equip swords though?

Also, IIRC Blizzard showed off AOE looting a long time ago. Whatever happened to that? Did I just miss they key for it?

Maybe it's changed to the gear magical stats that improves pickup range.

Yeah I really don't get the point they are trying to make. It's like saying the swords in this game look similar to the swords in other games.

Game Director Jay Wilson in an interview stated that fighting games were a source of inspiration for the Monk. This is one of the major pulls for me to want to play Diablo 3. The images aren't necessarily accurate (Stage 2 of Fists of Thunder also looks a lot like Makoto's f.MP and Dudleys stomache blow too). Players have seen these moves for decades, and it's fun to speculate about the things you love.

"For the Monk, we really were inspired by fighting game characters and games like God of War, where we wanted a character that could do really cool moves in rapid succession. So, we decided to do a combo system for him where many of his combat skills have different stages to them so as you use them, you move from stage 1 to stage 2 to stage 3. You can mix and match abilities as well and put them together. "

Friends list still borked.... Recently played list works ok though.

Is there a way to matchmake without having the person be on your friends list since I can't use it?

Absolutely shocking that a martial artist in one game has moves resembling a martial artist in another game.

Absolutely.
Shocking.

Ok that's really cool. I didn't know the moves could be mixed together. I noticed the different stages in the consecutive button presses but never though of mixing since I had a one button move as alt. Maybe the higher your level and the extra slots you open you'll end up mixing regularly.

Starcraft II launched second half of July 2010 last time I remember. Sounds about right for Diablo 3, they would still have time for huge promotion + kids have school holidays. No better time to launch it.

just started with a barbarian. havent researched anything, just jumped in. 1-shotted 4 enemies and the sound/physics/deaths made me giggle while saying 'oh my god this is fuckin awesome'

haha

Your experience is the same as mine and I had researched everything and watched multiple beta runs with the barbarian and every other class. Barb is such a beast.

So if I log into Battle.Net and see "Your Game Accounts: Diablo III (Coming Soon)", does that mean I got into the Beta or is Blizzard just reminding me I'll eventually be buying a copy of Diablo III.

My battletag is vilifier#1922.

Not beta related, it's there by default. Free advertising.

I laughed the first time I hit an undead with the hammer attack and the corpse went sailing off the screen.

You would have gotten an email. That's how I found out. The first clue that it was legit was that it was actually in my real email account, the one linked to Battle.net (as opposed to my "junk" Hotmail account, which is where I usually get those BS emails about WoW that I haven't played in about a year). And it never said "click here", it said "go log into battle.net".

I've downloaded it, but haven't played yet. Depends on what I'm doing the rest of the day.. Saturdays are always kind of up in the air for me.

Well, that last couple of emails I've gotten from Blizzard were "You've changed your password." and "You're account has been banned." That's happened 3 times now, the last time was more interesting since Blizzard denied my account was hacked even though there was a lvl 1 orc named alzxlqe89idlojh sitting in my account when it was restored. I never click on the emails, I just go directly to Battle.net to see what's up.
