Thanks for the input, guys. I was just wondering. It didn't hit me until recently that the Vita is likely drawing in a completely new audience.

I own many PSPs, and I like Lumines. I just don't like Ubisoft or $40 games.
:(

I had a PSP at one point but never bothered picking up Lumines...heard a lot about how good it is though. I'm just usually not one for puzzle games, dating back to tetris on the game boy. Hated that crap, so boring.
Yeah, that's understandable. I agree--Tetris is boring. I hope there's a demo for Electronic Symphony since that series is something you have to play to understand. It's horrible that the original isn't on PSN for a cheap price for people to see what the fuss is about. Playing Lumines on a home console (Lumines Live! or Supernova or whatever) just isn't the same. Speaking of that...

Nope Tactics Ogre is on PSN. The most notable of the missing Square titles are Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts: BBS, but pretty much everything else is on there.
BBS needs to be on PSN; it's the best KH by far. It's also horrible that Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution are not on PSN, either. Also, I don't think Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is available to download. We finally have access to a PSN version of FFT:WotL now, too, but it still has slowdown issues. You're right, though, games like Tactics Ogre and Duodecim are on PSN and totally worth it. I personally disliked Crisis Core (well, okay, I hated it) but it's good that and other games like The 3rd Birthday are on PSN, too.

edit:
Just came from gamestop and played the Vita a full hour. Took some mysticism out of the thing, but now that I know Ninja gaiden, UMVC3, VT4, And Gravity Daze play fuck awesome I'll probably jump on early. still waiting on my WalMart 15% discount hookup, though for my 3G edition and 32GB memstick.
OMG they had a demo of NGS+? What was it like? 60fps? :O

I guess no one's buying Shinobido 2 at launch except me :(.

it's on my list depending on how much money I end up spending at launch

Square-Enix's support of PSP games on PSN is hit or miss at best

I'm surprised GameStop broke the street date for hardware, I kind of expect it from the independents. I wonder what Sony think.

May be Sony allowed it for marketing purposes. It's a First Edition Bundle, so we should be getting it early anyway.

Oh no but that's one of the games I'm most looking forward to. small analogs took a second to get used to.

I was trying to decide between a new phone (HTC Titan II) and Vita for the month of February, but my decision was made a million times easier just now.

I honestly am beginning to wonder how many people getting a Vita never had a PSP. It has to be why no one seems to care about the new Lumines at all. Kind of depressing.

I only got a PSP when the Go came out as I was very much a PC gamer at the time the PSP came out. As a result I have GT, PixelJunk Monsters, Echochrome, Wipeout, Daxter and Super Stardust digitally.

Obviously I won't play Super Stardust or Wipeout since the new improved tophy enhanced versions are out but I'd like to give the likes of Daxter, Echochrome and PJM a go. I might even play GT however it's not a real GT game as far as I'm concerned lol.

I didn't play the Go much as I have enormous hands and it was just too cramped. I love the system though so it was a shame but there you go.

I do however have Lumines on pre order for £6 on Amazon. If they cancel it then I'll probably get the game if/when it drops to £20 - £25, ideally digitally as I can imagine it's one I might play a lot.

What?

Where is this?

Click the little triangle linky button thing next to the person I quoted. He said that the GameStop he went into told him that some people had their FEB's already but that they had none left to give him.

EDIT: his full post

I strolled to my GameStop here to order a dock for the Vita. Was surprised to find out that they could sell me one right away. So there, I have a Vita dock sitting on my desk, but no Vita yet. >_<

They also told me that some of the people who pre-ordered First Edition Bundle have received their unit. I banged on their counter and demanded for mine but they said they ran out. I got to wait.

[Look at the empty dock]

So yeah... I can answer any first impression question about the dock. -_-

I was initially interested in it, but honestly it just looks like a PS2 port to me. I may wait until I hear more user feedback before I make up my mind though.

here pick of shinobido on psp

Weird that the dock showed up early. I didn't check my EB for that? They definitely didn't have plans to sell the systems early.

Where are you?

I wonder if the games are street dated at all or if Gamestop can just start selling that stuff when they get it. I definitely wouldn't mind being able to go pick up some games since I haven't really bought any other stuff besides Uncharted for my JP Vita.

Fuck. if gamestop is giving out FEB's early, i demand amazon ship theirs now! wishful thinking. it was probably some clerk jerking dude's chain.

EB Canada is selling them.

I bought Uncharted GA and my friend bought ModNation and HSG.

Most Accessories will be available next week.

I'll have to see if Fry's does the same. Unless they changed recently they sold Hori screen protectors, like EB did just before they were bought/absorbed by GameStop (god dammit), because a screen protector is far better to get ahead of time than afterwards.

A lot of accessories are good to grab before launch. I find a lot of them disappear of shelves soon after and waiting for a new shipment can take a while.

I love that box art. I liked the original palceholder box art for the Japanese version more, but this looks pretty fantastic as well

Dr. Who if you see memory cards make sure to tell me! I want to scoop up a 16GB one before it becomes difficult to get.

If it makes you feel better, it started out as a PS3 game...

Also here's the schedule for the next round of live chats:

Wed February 8, 2012 @ 1PM PST: Escape Plan
(Break for launch weeks I guess)
Wed February 29, 2012 @ 12PM PST: Reality Fighters
Wed March 7, 2012 @ 2PM PST: Gravity Rush
Wed March 14, 2012 @ 3PM PST: Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational

You guys ready to have absolutely none of our questions answered? I know I am!

I don't care that a handheld hasn't done it. I don't care that Vita is a handheld at all. Its just another thing to play games on. And right now I desperately need a new thing to play games on. The PSPGo was in absolutely no way all DD from the start. The PSPGo was a PSP without the UMD slot.

The PSPgo is NOTHING BUT DD. There's no other way to play a game on it... how the heck does that jibe with your statement?

Ohh, I have to make sure I catch the Escape Plan one. Im still unsure on that game but Im very intrigued. That might push me over the edge.

I'll touch your Katamari on release day.

The media just continues to tear apart the vita...some of these "news" articles are so stupid and so smug that I find myself gritting my teeth.

"How can it compete against an iPhone?? Portable games have to be simple and short and able to be put down at a moment's notice! You know, like with cut the rope and angry birds! That's what people want!"

It's like they've all completely ignored the fact that portable gaming has been around since long before the app store launched...

Echoes from the 3DS launch. Feels familiar.

time. it has changed.

Here's a question I don't think has been asked, or at least I haven't seen answered.

Are you able to DL and play PSP demos on the Vita? It would be nice to DL a bunch of PSP demos so I could compare what I'd like to have for my PSV.

I'm sorry if this has been answered earlier in the thread, but since some of these games have been released in Japan already, what are some of the file sizes of digital versions of some retail games? I'm mainly curious about titles like Wipeout 2048, Uncharted, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Those are some I was thinking about buying, and considering getting digital versions.

Where are my Army Corps of Hell brothers?

I'm kinda interested in it. It looks like a darker version of Pikmin, and I love Pikmin. I just wanna wait and hear how it is beyond what I've seen from videos.

Went to a GameStop and got my hands on the Vita. It had a good amount of demos so I spent about 30 min trying them out...

Hardware

Th system is pretty light weight. It's light but does not feel cheap at all. Th screen I was playing on was suuuuprer smudged up by fingerprints. Definitely gonna want some sort of screen protection. For some reason also, the volume was not working on my unit. I had it turned up all the way buti think it was just disabled.

The OS is extremely snappy. The downside is there is no multitasking. Once you hit thr PS button it automatically closes the game. It doesn't even give you the option like on the ps3 to quit the game, etc. just quits you out. I guess that makes sense but I wasn't ready for it when I hit the PS button and was quit out and had to restart the game.

As far as the back touch panel goes, I'm guessing you're gonna want to put some type of protector on this. It's glossy and looks like it has about as much (if not more, since its on the back of the unit) of a chance of getting scratched.

Thes Sticks and buttons felt really good. The sticks do not click and can not be used as buttons.

Games

Uncharted

Definitely feels like an Uncharted game. The demo I got was in a burning building and was pretty short and only focused on traversal. I never got a gun, which was disappointing. Graphics are very nice . Looks like a "PS 2.5" game.

Wipeout

The loading to start a race is pretty atrocious as has been reported. Like, noticeably very long. To restart a race is not bad though. Again, feels slightly below a Ps3 game but looks great. The default controls did not agree with me. There are three options to choose from, and the "Wipeout" style worked best for me.

Gravity Rush

I only played this briefly but the graphics were very nice. The gravity mechanic definitely took some time to get used to, and I never really got hold of it by the time I left. Albeit, I only played a couple minutes, but it was not very intuitive. The game did show promise though.

PS button suspends the game. It doesn't close until you do that book flipping thing or whatever it's called.

That's just a demo unit thing.

Well, there's multitasking, but it depends on what you're doing. For instance, you could be in the music app, web browser, settings, and trophies section all at the same time and just shuffle through them all, but for the time being you can't go into certain things while you're playing a game. Like you can't play a game and browse the web or watch a video. Hopefully that changes at some point, though, as they optimize the OS and the web browser.

Awesome news that some people are getting their units already. Makes me hopeful that most places break street date, and I get my unit early as well!

Though I thought if a store sold a product before the street date, they paid a hefty fine for that?
