Speaking of Final Fantasy, is Tactics playable yet?

In unrelated news, I started playing Tiny Tower yesterday and I'm addicted. Ugh. My backlog is too huge for this weakness.

FF Tactics I a lot prettier now that it's retina enabled, but it's not an ideal experience on the iPhone. I haven't gotten it to work on my iPad 1, so I can't speak to that experience.

On the iPhone (4s), I find it a little cumbersome to manage rotating the screen and menu navigation with touch screen controls, and I find myself having to attempt the same input three or four times before I get a map movement right. It just isn't for me, and, of course, YMMV, but I would suggest looking at a lot of videos and possibly trying it in somebody else's device before dropping $15 on a game that is much more playable on other systems.

I was more curious about the slowdown but I hadn't thought of how it would control. I already have the original PS1 release from way back when, I was just hoping to play the new translation without the slowdown I found on the PSP version.

It runs fine on my ipad. The only problem I have is how you move units. :P

Yeah it's not working in my US account, weird. Maybe you guys should get it with your alt accounts I case the problem doesn't sort itself out before the free period is over.

It does seem it has to do with US accounts (or at least not affecting all regions), Flickpig worked in my Uruguayan account as soon as it went free.

It looks like this mockup that was posted a few weeks ago might actually become a real product.
Do you remember the iPhone game controller idea? Cool! We are actively working on it and I have been preparing a tiny demo to test the initial prototype. Can you tell I am a huge fan of Sword and Sorcery right? :)

Hope you like it!

Flickpig's a no go in Canada too. More tragically, Law and Order Episode 1 has also been "modifying" for the past day.

Maybe they are putting a system up where the games will only work if bought in the store from your region?

(wich would obviously suck as a new rule)

I'm from the US and it's not working for me. I tried some more random things from Appshopper that had price changes in the last day and couldn't download any of it through the US store.

For a game that I don't think is particularly great, Don't Run with a Plasma Sword really sucked me in. Games can really extend the length of playtime with an experience and leveling up system

I bet Zynga and Gameloft remain untounched.

Yeah, but their games don't really fall into the category of creative theft. They clone games, but they don't out-and-out use artistic likenesses of characters and assets. Watch the mushroom track in Molekart, and that will give you a clear idea of creative theft.

Any good 2 player iPad board games? Preferably in a fantasy setting... playing lord of the rings risk right now and really enjoying it

Hola gaf, is riptide any good?

It's kinda cool, good for a buck, temporarily slightly satisfied my needs for an iOS Wipeout cause it actually has stylish and technically impressive visuals in somewhat the same vein and the racing is somewhat fast with good tilt controls... Though it could have been way faster and to me feels like it lacks some action in some way. Wipeout-style weapons would have rocked in it.

So I'm on the fence about getting a refurb iPad 2. I've already got a current gen iPod touch that I play things on but I was curious as to whether or not there are enough iPad exclusive games to justify the acquisition of one when I already have the iPod? I'd also be using it for other things, but would this be an excessive buy in your guys minds? Thanks.

I had an ipod, bought an iPad, and completely stopped playing games on my iPod. So....not sure.

Yeah I only game on iPhone when I'm mobile. It's not just exclusive games, it's that MOST games, especially HD/Universal, offer a better experience on a 10" screen. There are a few iPad exclusives, but it's not the major selling point IMO, I'm sure someone has a list.

I'm really enjoying A Monster Ate My Homework! It feels a lot like Boom Blox on Wii, and is a ton of fun. Finally a "physics" puzzler that doesn't bore me after two levels!

Also, some quick hits:

Reckless Racing 2 - picked it up, hesitantly, after the impressions that it was much improved from the first. My problem with these games are that the controls are so hard to nail, I think Death Rally had the best take on the isometric racing controls. I just can't get comfortable with a control setup that I like. The most tolerable was the half wheel at like 20% or something like that. Otherwise, I'm constantly having to adjust and micromanage my direction instead of actually paying attention to the environments. In regards to everything else, especially the graphics, it seems pretty good.

Monster Crush - Demolition - Actually pretty fun! Despite it being an obvious straight port job from some flash game, the core mechanics are good and feel fresh.

Paper Monsters - Ugh, why did I bother? I need to stop buying cutesy platformers; they just bore me.

Smash Cops - Better after the control update, but still feels entirely too repetitive.

Valor - The latest city builder/management game to hook me in. You don't need to buy in-game currency, but with most IAP-enabled games, it does boost progress.

Darkness Rush - I like Don't Run With a Plasma Sword better, but cool premise, if not a little janky. Looking forward to what they might do with this world.

I upgraded from an iPod Touch 4 to an iPad 2 and like everyone else I have all but stopped gaming on my iPod. The larger screen and significantly longer battery life make the iPad the superior experience even when playing upscaled iPod games, and nearly everything worth playing is universal or has an HD version.

Though I don't know if I'd buy an iPad 2 now, with the iPad 3 likely just around the corner. Even if you don't want whatever improvements the next revision brings, its release will drive down the prices on the iPad 2.

VR Mission HD

Looks like a 2d retro take on the MGS vr missions. Maybe, haven't bought it yet.

Looks pretty cool actually. Definitely let me know what you think.

Hola gaf, is riptide any good?

I'm not a fan. I'm realizing that I'm more of a top-down racing fan on iPad. Reckless racing 1 and 2 are probably the two best racers on its, in my opinion.

Riptide is technically impressive though.

I have an iPad2 but as far as games go (because it's certainly better for other things) I often wish I had an iPhone/Pod with comparable specs instead. Anything with sticks and d-pads and buttons etc seems like it would work much better on a smaller, lighter, more comfortable to hold device. Especially with how so many games stick all such virtual inputs at the bottom of the screen, like they expect you to hold the iPad2 like a gamepad, which is just so wrong. I guess an iCade or whatever would fix that, for the supported titles, but that's hardly a mobile device then so I might as well buy a multiplatform arcade stick that will also be supported by many more and better games. It's also annoying me how the iPad versions of games are at times quite a bit more expensive for no good reason since it's not like they remake the graphics or whatever else, they usually just downscale what they have already for the other devices. Of course on the plus side things that have point & click style gameplay are probably better on iPad2 thanks to the higher resolution (as said, that goes for all non gaming things too, like web browsing and photo viewing). But I find I don't play many of those in the end, not much has caught my attention, I also tend to play such games on PC instead.

Puzzle fans might wanna take a look at Planet Buster

It's a match 3 game with a few little twists . . . Graphics are pretty snazzy for a little puzzler.
FREE for the weekend, dropped from 2 bucks.
